ActionScript 3.0 :: Extend Button Object With A New Property?

Mar 3, 2011

I want to save information in a button type. Is there a way to add a new string property or Object() property to something like a button? I am using .name and .label for other purposes. I need one more string property so I can save some info about the button.Something like...

mybutton = new Button();
mybutton.formula="squareroot";

Just as a technicality, is there ANY object (or anything that can be placed inside of a variable) that does not extend Object?Even the "Class" object extends Object.On a similar note, what is the difference between these two?

I pretty much always use ":Object",but is there any situation where it would be better to use the latter?I also recently found out that there is a difference when using the "as":

Professional :: Button Not Working - Getting Error #1009 : Cannot Access A Property Or Method Of A Null Object Reference?

Mar 17, 2011

I have two Flash projects, an Intro (1 scene) and a Portfolio (5 scenes).I copied all layers from the Intro and created a new scene in the Portfolio file,and pasted the layers. All of my buttons work except for the button that brings me from the end of the Intro, into Portfolio.weirdly enough, this the same button that I use throughout the portfolio to bring me to the "Home" scene.When I remove this button, the error message goes away. Below is the action, and below the action is the error message.

BtnHome_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick18);function onClick18 (event:MouseEvent)

ActionScript 3.0 :: Setting Event Handler For Button - Error #1009: Cannot Access A Property Or Method Of A Null Object Reference?

Nov 24, 2009

I seem to be having a recurring problem attaching events to a button i have created within 2 other movieclips.I get the following error:

TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

So it looks like it can't find the button, in order to attach the event listener. The question is why? I am attaching a similar event to a button on the main timeline and that works fine. So it looks like a scope issue, but I am referring to it properly.

code below:
Code:
import flash.net.navigateToURL;
import flash.net.URLRequest;

Iframe - Make A Flash/Flex Drop Down Extend Outside The Flash Object Boundaries?

Jan 22, 2010

We are developing our app in flash/flex builder for the front end hitting .NET backend webservices. There is one section of the old app that will not be initially converted, so we need have it appear in an iFrame.

So far all that works fine.We shrink the size of the SWF in the host page to just be the menu/nav area. And underneat that I have an iframe control that loads in this page from the old site.Now the problem. in the SWF is a drop down list to enable picking a client. Since the SWF has been shrunk to about 100px high, the drop-down will only occupy within that 100px area which it's opened. This is NOT good as you can imagine. How can I make the drop-down list descend over-top of the IFRAME control and thus extend outside the SWF dimensions? Is this possible?

I tried to make the internal stage transparent and leave the SWF a little larger, about 400 px high, but the IFRAME still appears behind the SWF.

Arrays :: Declaring A Null Property Within An Object, Or Running A Function Within An Object Declaration

Feb 22, 2011

I have an object which is assigned a number of properties:

var project_array:Array = [];
var slideObject:Object = {
project_title : myXML.projects.project[i].title.toUpperCase(),

[Code].....

but I'm not quite sure where to place this. If I place it outside of the object constructor, I get "term is undefined", I guess because it doesn't know what project_clips_array is - but if I declare project_clips_array in the constructor, it appears to need to be defined, i.e. I can't create a blank property. But I can't place it in the constructor either, because it doesn't seem to allow me to run a function within an object constructor. What is the proper syntax or arrangement of code for executing this function to get the array within the object?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Deep Object Copy - BCopy Object Does Not Contain Body Property?

Mar 24, 2011

I found a really weird behavior when using deep copy for objects (ObjectUtil of Flex framework).Imagine we have a class B which extends class A. Class A has property body which is of type ByteArray.I create object b (instance of B). Then I make a deep copy object bCopy, BUT this bCopy object does not contain body property at all! All others properties (of scalar types) defined in Class A are copied properly.When I define property of type ByteArray directly in class B, then this property is copied properly..

I can do this if I write:

ActionScript Code:
for (var pname:* in column.@*)

trace(pname);

Returns "0", "1", "2", and "for each" returns "Name", "userName", "70".

What I really want is "label", "datafield", and "width", hopefully without the overhead of actually parsing the xmlString.
