View 1 RepliesI have stored name of a property of an object as a string. In PHP, if the object were named $object and the property variable was named $key, it could be accessed with $object->$key. How can I dynamically access properties in ActionScript?
View 2 RepliesI create a new object. My new object will always have a labelField because it has to be added to a dataProvider in a ComboBox. The problem is my next property. Each object in the dataProvider has a dataField property that has a string value [eg: 'code' or 'isoCode'].[code]
View 1 RepliesI'm getting an "1120:Access of undefined property module_mc" on this line of code, which is on frame 111:
[Code]...
modules_mc is created, I can see it. So I don't understand why Flash thinks it's not there..
I have an object which is assigned a number of properties:
var project_array:Array = [];
var slideObject:Object = {
project_title : myXML.projects.project[i].title.toUpperCase(),
[Code].....
but I'm not quite sure where to place this. If I place it outside of the object constructor, I get "term is undefined", I guess because it doesn't know what project_clips_array is - but if I declare project_clips_array in the constructor, it appears to need to be defined, i.e. I can't create a blank property. But I can't place it in the constructor either, because it doesn't seem to allow me to run a function within an object constructor. What is the proper syntax or arrangement of code for executing this function to get the array within the object?
I found a really weird behavior when using deep copy for objects (ObjectUtil of Flex framework).Imagine we have a class B which extends class A. Class A has property body which is of type ByteArray.I create object b (instance of B). Then I make a deep copy object bCopy, BUT this bCopy object does not contain body property at all! All others properties (of scalar types) defined in Class A are copied properly.When I define property of type ByteArray directly in class B, then this property is copied properly..
View 2 RepliesI have an xml say in following format

What I should do is parse an xml and from its node name create object property and then create an object array based on those property. Am I able to make myself clear.
I'm trying to dynamically addChild a Sprite to an already tweened MovieClip (tweened on the Flash timeline).
Let's say ObjectA is the tweened object, I published it in my swc and linked it to my Actionscript project in Flash Builder. I make an instance of ObjectA in my class, and then try to do the following:
var objectA:ObjectA = new ObjectA();
var objectB:ObjectB = new ObjectB();
objectA.addChild(objectB);
addChild(objectA);
Now, the problem is, objectB doesn't tween along with objectA. Is there any logical solution to this?
How to dynamically add attributes to an object and convert that object into xml in Flex/Actionscript?
View 1 RepliesI have a list of dynamically created MCs. I have this function, which works fine:
function onLoaded(e:Event):void {
xml = new XML(e.target.data);
var il:XMLList = xml.channel.item;

generally, how i work involves designing all of my graphics in Flash Authoring, converting them to Sprite symbols by changing the base class to flash.display.Sprite, give my instances names and finally export them to ActionScript.the approach actually permits me to dynamically create properties in code on my Sprite instances that i've exported to ActionScript, just as if they were instances of MovieClips. i'm not entirely sure why i'm able to do this, but i can. in polling the objects to make sure of their superclass, they are indeed Sprites and not MovieClips.however, as expected, if i program a new sprite from scratch in code and try to dynamically add a property to the new programmed sprite a compile time error will result.
package

import flash.display.Sprite;

I'm having trouble with how Flash sets the _x property of a dynamically created movieclip.If I create a rectangle on the stage using the Drawing API:
Code:
//for the purposes of this example, assign a value to i
var i:Number = 0;

Is there any method to change the property of b2World dynamically?.. I want to apply a wind effect at some level of my game.. My idea is to change the property of b2World object that i created..
Or is there any other method to crate that effect?..
I have problem with accessing object created by function imported from another package.
I have 2 packages DragDrop and UserInterface. In UserInterface I create methods for buttons and later add them in DragDrop . I make it in two different ways:
One(this one works):

Is it possible to get the color being used in a dynamic textbox through actionscript? I am formatting the textbox with css and I want another element in my movieclip to match whatever color the text is in that textbox dynamically. Ive tried everything I can think of.
View 4 RepliesIm dynamically creating an instance of a movieclip, call it a game piece. This game piece has 4 frames, each with a movieclip called base(although one is red, one blue, one green, one yellow). When the game piece is created I set the frame to indicate player color. Im also changing the alpha of base to 1.0 when its being dragged, 0.5 when its dropped.
Using the following code, everything works fine if the game piece color is set to the base in frame 1 (red). If the game piece is created and the timeline moved to a frame other than 1, I throw an error when trying to access base.alpha (this would be the second, third, and fourth instances of base in the game piece timeline). Heres the strange part, this is only a problem when the game piece is first created and added to the display list. Once created, even after the error has been thrown, I can access the alpha of bases 2, 3, and 4 in the drag start/stop listeners. Heres a link to the work in progress, and the relevant sections of code (shortened for brevity, t1 is the top left piece on the pallet, others just repeat the same code):[URL]

Using org.as3commons.reflect I can look-up the class name, and instantiate a class at runtime.I also have (non-working) code which invokes a method. However, I really want to set a property value. I'm not sure if properties are realized as methods internally in Flex.I have a Metadata class which stores 3 pieces of information: name, value, and type (all are strings).I want to be able to loop through an Array of Metadata objects and set the corresponding properties on the instantiated class.[code]I realize that I have to declare a dummy variable of the type I was to instantiate, or use the -inculde compiler directive. An unfortunate drawback of Flex.Also, right now there's code to account for typecasting the value to it's specified type.
View 1 RepliesLong time listener, first time caller here. I'm having trouble with how Flash sets the _x property of a dynamically created movieclip. If I create a rectangle on the stage using the Drawing API:
Code:
//for the purposes of this example, assign a value to i
var i:Number = 0;
//assign var squareName
var squareName:String = "square" + i;
//create an empty movieclip named [squareName] at depth 1
this.createEmptyMovieClip([squareName], 1);
[Code] .....
I'm not new to Flash by any stretch of the imagination, but I have never come up against this problem before. For context, I'm actually getting my feet wet with the Tween class, and am having trouble animating dynamically created movieclips due to this confusion with coordinates. When I tween a dynamically created clip from one set of coordinates to another, they are offset by the movieclip's _x and _y properties starting at 0, 0, rather than their actual position on stage.
i'm creating a completely dynamic form. i want to assign a variable name to a textfield and then pass that variable with a LoadVars() object.
here's a small piece of code i can't get working:
//create movieclip (used like a form)
_root.createEmptyMovieClip( 'dialog_body', 0 );
//create textfield input
[Code].....
bottomline: if i create a textfield using the traditional method and assign the 'var' it works fine. if i create a textfield dynamically at run time, and use the *.variable property, the variable is NOT sent..
I am building a Flex application with ActionScript 3. Unfortunately I've hit a wall with this one...I would like to be able to apply an upSkin to my dynamically generated button like this:
//this theSkin variable is dynamic in my app, but for this example it's a simple string
var theSkin:String = "http://www.mypicturedomain.com/images/myimage.gif";
var navBtn:Button = new Button();
navBtn.id = "thumb1";
[code]....
When I attempt this, I get this error:
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.display::Loader@3dac941 to Class.
How do I skin this button with my image dynamically? A couple of things to consider:The upSkin image must be remote. It can't be local.The button must be generated dynamically (it's in a for loop).
i'm trying to remove a movieclip i created dynamically. when exporting i get the "1120: Access of undefined property player_mc" error.
function addplayer(id:String):MovieClip {
var mcObj:Object=null;
mcObj=getDefinitionByName(id.toString());
return (new mcObj()) as MovieClip;
[Code]...
I am creating a movie clip dynamically and set the property _focusrect to true
ActionScript Code:
for(var i:Number=0; i<5;i++)
{
var pImage:MovieClip =
[Code].....
I am not able to see the focus rect when i use the navigation keys
a movie clip symbol is designed and subclassed in Flash, but get instanced and addChild-ed in AS3. It works well as long as I don't change it's width/height property (scaling works too), but if i do, it disappears
View 2 RepliesIs it possible in actionscript to get and set an object's property eg I have an object called arenaWorld and I wish to get and set just one property to get and set an object's property the singer's song. public function get arenaWorld.singer.song():String
Code:
{
return arenaWorld.singer.song();
}
Unfortunately this doesn't compile.
There is a function that receiving value of String = 'propertyName', wich is property name.and i have an Object item with property of name equals to 'propertyName'.How do i get item's value of that property?ObjectUtil.getClassInfo(item).propertiesreturns an Array of item's properties, but is it an easier way to get it instead of searching trough Array?
View 3 RepliesMy Document Class is an object called Allegheny, which extends MovieClip.
Within Allegheny, I set values for static string variables _d and _g.
From Allegheny, I call multiple times another object called MuniAllegheny.
In MuniAllegheny, I need to call to use the value for _d and the value for _g.
I can do this if I write:
muniallegheny_g = Allegheny._g;
But if I pass Allegheny as a parameter to MuniAllegheny, and I try writing:
muniallegheny_g = thisMuni._g;
I want to eliminate usage of magic strings in these:
BindingUtils.bindProperty(obj1, "propertyName", obj2, ["childObj", "anotherProperty"]);
or
var ddl:DropDownList = new DropDownList();
ddl.labelField = "propertyName";
it would be sweet to just type something like:
[Code]...
My problem is to find out the object which owned my property... for example:
My Class :
public class MyClass{
var myGroup:Group; //Spark Component
.....
}
Now, I add my Group to another UIComponent. Next step in Class XYZ I wan't to get my MyClass Object ... but I can only see the var myGroup
public class XYZ {
...
public function getObject(group:Group):MyClass {
return group.????;
}
...
}
[code]...
The labels text will be "Property", but if object.property is changed, the label isn't updated. Is there any way around this?
I have an object that passes itself to an inherited static function using the "this" property, but by the time the function is called "this" becomes a global variable.
