Is it possible to get the color being used in a dynamic textbox through actionscript? I am formatting the textbox with css and I want another element in my movieclip to match whatever color the text is in that textbox dynamically. Ive tried everything I can think of.

How can I turn every specific character in a word in a textbox to specific color? this works like highlighting. If I have the word Jeeves in TextField object, I would like each occurrence of Jeeves in this TextFIeld to become red or any other color. In AS2 I had to search the text for keywords and use the TextFormat class. and then handle keypresses for the textbox for highlighting as the user is typing. How can a highlight a text in dynamic text field?

I have a problem changing the colour of text in a dynamic text box. I have created a dynamic text field with the following text in it: jjj fff jjj fff. I then have an input text box below it. The user has to type the letters it sees in the text box above. If the user types a j the text in the textfield turns green, to indicate that the user entered the correct letter, if the user inputs the incorrect letter in comparison with the text above the text above (e.g: turns red.).
I want to program the text in the text field so that only the letter that they were supposed to type turns either green or red, depending on whether they typed the correct letter in the input box. For example. if the user inputs a 'j' in the input box, the first j in the text field above, will turn to green, then if the user types in an f, the j in the text field above will turn to red, as the user was supposed to type a 'j'. How can I control each letter colour of the textfield.
I am generating the following text box and the data in it dynamically:

The problem I am having is the text that is generated only stays on one line and therefore doesn't fit into the text field. I know there is a way to add the multiline property to other types of components but can this be done dynamically?
I have a dynamic text box and I would like to be able to use actionscript 3 to change the color, font, size, etc. of only HALF the dynamic text. Is there a way to use the TextFormat class (or another way) to format half the string and append it to the end of the dynamic text? I also don't want to use server side script or anything outside of flash.

View 1 RepliesI can't get the letterspacing property to function in a dynamic text box, I have tested it with color and it works just fine. just letterspacing. And I have embedded the font, so I know it isn't that. The code affecting the text box is this.

Those working with AS2 have had similar problems but managed to fix it by typing "setNewTextFormat", which has been phased out in AS3.
I'm creating a timeline structured site where a movie clip on the stage called 'slider' is set to slide automatically according to how far left, or right the mouse position is from the center of the stage. This works. I even have it set it up so that using two variables, i can decide how much or even which portion of the movie clip (or the timeline) the user is allowed to slide around in.I then have a movieclip called 'yearMarker' which is attached at runtime inside the 'slider' movie clip. This is done through a While loop and PHP script which retrieves from the database the field values for "year" (just a string denoting the particular year in question), and "yearXPosition" (which is how far along on the x axis the attached movie clip should be.the string I retreive from php looks like this:

View 4 RepliesI am having a problem in adding and removing the the email field text boxes dynamically. I have an add button beside an email field. On clicking it a new email field is generated below it dynamically with a remove button beside it(this too dynamically). The problem is if I have added 5 email fields and I want to, say remove the third email field, then i have to reset the 'y' position of the subsequent email field text box; i.e; I have to reset the 'y' position of 4th and 5th email fields. This problem becomes serious if I have 10 instead of 5 email fields. I have learn that in Javascript we can do this use of a container that automatically resets the position of the text fields. Is there any way out in Flash for this?

I'm loading in some data from an XML into Flash then searching a level and returning a number depending on how many nodes are on that level (at the moment is "2") Then I collect bits of info from each and trace the results which works fine, problem is I can't seem to create a separte textbox for each result?

I am unfamiliar with Flash and actionscript and I need help to dynamically change the font of a textbox based on the value of a flashvar. I have a flash template whose content I can edit through XML. The flashvar value specifies the language and points to a different XML file. This works without problems, and I have found online a way to change the font via actionscript. However I need help on how to get a reference to that textbox.
There are two files an .fla and Main.as file. Within the fla file there is a single Scene and when the textbox is selected the properties display "thisLogo" as its name and "Dynamic Text" in the combo box below. Within the Main.as file I have attempted to add the following code:

I am tasked with trying to do a slideshow of sorts, and I need to pull the filename of the slide from an xml file and display it, as well as display the appropriate slide notes in a text box.
the xml file they gave me is formatted as below, and with my current code (also below) I'm able to (trace) list all the file names, but I am missing how to address the filename on just one slide � say, slide 1, so I can then load it into a loader.

Somehow, my urlPath isn't getting the correct value, and therefore the if-else latter isn't functioning appropriately. I am posting the website on my test server, so the http addresses are correct, and the if-else latter functions perfectly when I just change the conditions to 'true'/'false', so neither is the problem. The problem is that the alert shows me that the value of urlPath is undefined, and so then all conditions in the latter evaluate to false.
I can't seem to find anything that tells me how to do this.Is there a way to grab the name of a symbol on the stage? Not the instance name but the name that it has in the library.

View 3 RepliesI need a function that iterates i++ style to go from white to black or (even better) white full alpha to white no alpha.I tried messing with 255,255,255 stuff but its not the same as the hex 0xFFFFFF and if i try it i always get blue for the value 255. and 0 for black (in my experiments) also tried [255,255,255,1] (black no matter the value).
