ActionScript 3.0 :: Finding And Replacing New Line Characters

I am making some string variables to use in an animation. Another person in the office has has written all of the text using Word. Some of these strings have up to 50 lines and each new line has some sort of special character in there which creates an arror in AS. I can manually go through and place the cursor at the end of the line at that point, hit delete and then type in " ". This eliminates the error but I have a lot of these strings, days of work. I have not been able do a simple find and replace. Has anyone experienced this before? Is there a way to use notepad++?

Scenario: InputTF, button MC, and a dynamicTF on the stage. What I want to do:When a user inputs text into the inputTF and presses the button, any spaces are replaced with _ and the "string" is placed in the dynamicTF. EG: I type "this is an example" into the InputTF. I then press the button. The dynamicTF now reads "this_is_an_example" You might be able to see how useful this kind of process is for many projects. I need to replace multiple contiguous new line/line feed characters in flex with a single new line character.
Example:
The string
"My name is blah blah
My name is blah
"
Should be converted to
"My name is blah blah
My name is blah
"
Hope the example makes it easier to understand.
I am using a component to render it.
I guess using regex would be the easiest way to do this, but still it would be great if people can point me out to references/examples to get this done with ease.
I am using flex 4.5.

Im making a game, where a player controls a character moving around the screen using the mouse.the player moves using a tween, using the current x y pos and the click x y pos to move the character around here's the thing, i have objects on the screen (such as rocks, etc) that i do not want the user to be able to walk through. i do not want to use hit test to simply chuck the character off the object in real time because that's messy and it would mean the tween continued and stuff.. instead, i want to add some code to the top of the "movePlayer" function that checks to see if an object (such as some rocks) is going to be hit, and if it does, i want the tween to only go to this point (yellow in the below diagram)
Here's what i mean:the player clicks on the screen ( the blue dot) and instead of walking straight to the blue dot, the code determines the point at which the player will hit the big orange block, and only tween to that point, if there are multiple orange blocks in the way, the tween will stop the closest block.

I am in the process of making an animation that takes text from an XML document and displays it in a scrollPane. I had this working when I was just using string variables. Now with XML it seems to ignore the new line characters. I have looked all over but nothing is working. Now that I think about it, special cahracters like "%3C" are not working.

I want to truncate address line 2 to 10 characters if a value greater than 10 characters is returned in the address validation response for address line 2. we also have address line 1 which is set to max of 40 characters, if address line 1 exceeds 40 characters and the result comes to address line 2,and if the length for address line 2 reaches more than 10 characters then i need to truncate that to 10 characters.

I have a text field that has 2 lines for visible text. I then pass it a string to display but the string might be to long to display all of the string. My problem is that I want to count how many characters that are NOT visible in the text field. The text field has to stay the fixed size and cannot change

1) Each field in the form only allows 3 characters and no special characters such as @ _ ! . , etc... 2) When the user goes to the next field in the form, the previous field appears blank but the when clicking on that again, the original text appears. 3) When submitting the form, it just keeps saying "in progress" and never shows the confirmation text nor does the email get sent. There is an HTML file included with this form but I am not sure if I need to put that in as I have embedded this form into an SWF file so I don't think I need that code but let me know if I am wrong about this. I am posting both the AS code and PHP code below..

I'm trying to work out how to create a simple demo that works as follows: A ball falls from the top of the stage.Player is able to draw a line anywhere on the stage. The ball will bounce/roll along the line such that the player can guide it at will. I don't think the coordinate rotation will be a problem for me but I can't figure out how to transform a line drawn by the player into a hit detectable sprite -- or realkly any way that I can get those line coordinates into my coordinate rotation routine. To keep it simple, I'm just working on the first part of the problem, getting the line to where I can hit test or know its position.Here is my code so far:

It always traces 0,0 instead of my current line coordinates - and even those I don't think would be sufficient.

in Flash CS4 I have static text like: Line1 and line2 It's in 9 point Arial Regular as a device font. If I set the line spacing below 3.9 the second line dissappears from the compiled SWF file. It still shows in the FLA file. The same thing happens at 6pt but NOT at 5pt or less.

When I use the code in red once my cursor has replaced the mouse i can no longer click on my boxes. When i do not use the hide mouse code i can click the boxes just fine. What am I doing wrong? [code]

I have a main shell swf file that has two buttons on it that should each launch/load their respective swf files (tool1, tool2). These should essentially replace the main swf file. Also, I have a button on tool1 & 2 that should bring you back to the main menu. All these files are then compiled into an exe. Seems easy enough, but I'm not entirely sure where to start.

My code is attached - I'm trying to replace the loaded pngfile with the next one to load everytime the swf loops. I am trying to use sIFR to replace the headlines (e.g. The Tour of A Lifetime) on this page: [URL] The font I want to swap in is Verlag by hoefler & frere jones. I had this working the other day but it suddenly stopped working: the font does not replace. All the js/css/flash files are linked correctly. I tested my verlag.swf and it works. And, I tested sIFR with a different font and the replacement worked. Am I having issues because I have yet to buy a Verlag license for the server?

I'm working on a project for the new year gathering at our work. I made an application in which you can type a wish for the company and when you send it your message will be displayed in an dynamic text field and in the background fireworks are launched. These fireworks are external swf files, made in adobe after effects. They are launched when clicking a button. They are played at random. However, after playing 2 or 3 they start slowing down, probably because they stack on each other. I need the new swf to replace the old swf, now my application keeps loading new swf on top of each other.

I'm in the process of teaching myself the components of the CS4 Design Premium package using the Adobe Classroom in a Book series. I'm currently going through the Flash CIAB and i've started using the pen tool. The task involves creating a wave like design across the stage. Whilst this in itself is simple, the final instruction is to click on the first anchor point to close the shape. In the illustration, the closed shape seems to automatically extend around the stage, however when I click on the first anchor point, the line automatically connects between the two points in a straight line.
Am I doing something wrong? The next step is to fill this area, but with the straight line effect that I am getting, this becomes impossible. I should point out that the instruction states that the pen tool line should extend off the stage. I have done this, but even then on clicking on the first anchor point the shape is closed incorrectly.

I am trying to dispatch an event but not sure when I should do it to get the right results. The first event "submitClicked" is in the right spot and works great. However, the second event "dataReady" seems like it might be a problem. I need it to be dispatched after this.compiledFormData is set.Does AS3 wait for each line of code in a function to be executed before moving on to the next line?

I am using Flex 4 and AS3 and I am trying to make it so that the user can draw a freehand line with the cursor - I have this part done.However, I also need the line to be a dashed line instead of one solid line like it is now. below is my code I am using. I have found some examples on how to do this, but they are all for straight lines, not for a freehand line.
