i developed application in action script 3.0 with adobe flash cs4 professional. In this application, i loaded another external swf which is having flash list component, but while loading the swf in main swf it showing TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at fl.containers::BaseScrollPane/drawBackground()at fl.controls::List/draw()at fl.core::UIComponent/callLaterDispatcher() please, kindly suggest me for this issue.

I originally built this in Flash 8, then moved the files over to CS4. I have a list component where I've loaded song files through xml and everything is working great. How to make it play one of the 8 files randomly when it starts playing, instead of it always starting with a specified track (currently track one obviously). So each time a visitor comes to the site it is a different song.

I am working on an older Flash project created in CS3 ActionScript 2.0 How can I make the pointer cursor change to the hand when hover over a list item?_root.slidePanel.myList'myList' is the list. I have traced out the contents of the List MC and it has a child MC called 'content_mc'. I assumed this was the object containing all of my list items but the only members of this MC I can see (when tracing them out) are 'setRGB' and 'searchKey'.

how to populate a list box component located within a seperate mc in my swf with an array... the array comes from a response from a webservice call. I am not currently on the computer with my source code available so lets just use the following....
listdata[i] = the array i want to populate the list box with..... (listdata1, listdata2, listdata3, listdata4, etc. etc.)
movieclip1 = the MC within my fla containing the list box component
mylist = the actual list component
... just not all that familiar with the format of actionscript when working with objects... using CS3 and as2 btw,

Why I have to press 2 times the arrow key down to get a navigation through the list items in a list component of Flash?
Theres any workaround for this? I have a listener for keyboard event that checks if keyCode is equal to 40 if it is then I use 'stage.focus = list', but I have to press 2 times key arrow down to start navigating through list items.

I'm trying to do to familiarize myself with flash. I'm loading an external XML document into a Flash AS2 project using the XMLComponent. I'm able to get everything to display properly within my lists except for my hyperlinks.
I've enclosed my hyperlinks in the XML document using the <![CDATA[hyperlink]]>. Once the movie launches.....the full URL tags are being displayed: (eg. <a href="http://www.google.com">Google</a> )
My hyperlinks are in there own seperate List component.

I'm making a flash app that play's movie clips on the main stage.
I have 4 buttons on the bottom for 4 different catagories of movie clips.
I plan to be able to update the catagories with 5 new movies per week (replacing 5 older movies).
My knowledge of actionscript is limited, so I have just imported each individual flv (which are hosted on a webserver) onto individual keyframes on a movie clip and just placed a simple gotoAndplay action script on buttons to play the movies.
My question is: Is it possible to have a file with the list of .flv url's on it and then each keyrame to look at the file and load a specific line.
i.e. keyframe 1 load line1 from movie list, keyframe2 load line2 from list etc etc.
This would save me alot of time, as at the moment I am going into each keyframe and changing the url of the flv when I update. If I could just change the url's on the text file, that would be great.

I have a game that loads most of the assets of the interface externally (swfs... pngs... mp3's .. etc). Most of this works fine, however,I'm having problems trying to load a SWF that holds a slider component and a few buttons (MovieClips).
Once I've loaded the external SWF that contains the component into my main game logic, I try to access the slider Component. If I dont specify a class type when I do this I get no problems, but if I try to insert it in a variable of type Slider It says it can not cast it.
This causes a problem:
var mySlider:Slider = externalClip_mc.theSlider;
And this seems fine: (Not specifying a class type)
var mySlider = externalClip_mc.theSlider;
The error message I get says something like this:
you can not cast fl.Controls::Slider@114e4041 into fl.Controls.Slider.
I also get the same thing if I try to dispatch a SliderEvent from my external SWF:
you can not cast fl.events::SliderEvent@114e4041 into fl.events.SliderEvent.Why does this happen when I try to access a component and not a member from any other type (int, MovieClip, Number, String ... etc)... ?

I am developping a player with Articulate Presenter and Flash. I would like to put thumbnails that are in a special folder in swf, into a scrollPane. The scrollPane itself is in a clip loaded when I click on the Thumbnails Tab.
Here is my simplified code :

Well, my problem is that the ScrollPane is not scrolling until the end of the thumbnails, so I don't know if all the thumbnails are loaded. And even worse, exactly one time on two, the Scroll Bar is not showing at all ... !is it a scrollPane pb ? I use it many times in other parts of my project without any problem ... or is it because there are too many thumbnails ? I have around 30 - 40 to load ..

I have a combobox and list component on the stage. The combobox has 3 selections. How do I get it so that each selection triggers the specific xml file to load into the list component? I can't get them to communicate to each other.

Using the MovieClipLoader class, what is the difference between loading the external files into a Loader Component or into an empty movie clip. Will one be quicker? They both worked for me, but I've read using the Loader Component is better. Can anyone confirm this? I would think that avoiding components would make things faster/less file size.

I'm trying to load a bunch of external swfs into a tile list. Once the swfs have been loaded I'm adding them to a dataprovider which I then sort and add to the tilelist. Like so:
dp.addItem({label:e.currentTarget.content.getLabel(), path:e.currentTarget.content.getPath(), source:e.currentTarget.content, cost:e.currentTarget.content.getCost(), category:e.currentTarget.content.getCategory()});
It works fine except that the way I'm doing it I have to add a bunch of functions to each swf to know which one is loaded and pass the correct info to the dataprovider.Is there another way to tell which swf has been loaded? Something like this.URLRequest. If I could tell something about it I could compare that to my original xml and find out all the other information I need for my dataprovider.

I've been working on webdesign for some years now, having worked mainly in full flash websites with a lot of actionscripting. Thus I consider myself quite familiar with actionscript but only AS2 as I've still haven't made the cross to AS3 (I know i'm almost 5 years late...).I've been recently hired to convert interactive points on some museums that were working with dvd menu's to flash. I've constructed and programmed everything with no trouble at all using some programing to use a circular menu and the flvplayback component to load external 720P HD movies on f4v format. Everything was working perfectly until I was faced with the real PC's that were being used on the museums. Some of them are okay PC's and so I just had to reduce the quality of the videos a bit (a 20 mb bitrate was too much... lol).
However some of them are the equivalent of netbooks (like the Asus EEE PC) and that's where my nightmare begun.So the real problem is this: the computers can run the HD videos perfectly through the VLC media player. However, using the flash presentation either on flash projector or an swf running through an html on internet explorer results in an unwatchable video all sloppy and with buggy sound.I've even tried loading the videos inside a totally empty flash project which still resulted on the same problems.What happens is that when the flash loads the videos the system usage of the processor results in 60 percent with peaks reaching the 80 percent.The weirdest part is that sites like youtube that run HD movies work on those pc's but my presentation does not.Do you have any suggestions on what might be happening?? Is this a problem that has to do with the FlvPlayback component and that I could solve using the Open Source BetterFlv component instead?

I have a main movie that contains a series of buttons that load different swf files into a loader component.
Each of the secondary movies contains a series of buttons that when clicked load a movie clip with information specific to that button.
Nothing earth shattering, right...
When I preview the secondary movie it runs as I would expect.
When I bring it into the main movie via the loader component and click any of the buttons to load the secondary movie's movie clip I receive the following errors[code]...

I'm building a top view 2D map, that it's objects are stored on the server.The kind of objects are 10 and might be a photo, label, button, lists, mix of them or labels with tooltips.The component must request the "areas" that are missing on screen.An area is 1000x1000 px and is cached in flex.To move in the map, will be like in google maps (drag-and-drop).I should be able to have another list and move objects from one to another using drag-an-drop on objects. Ex.: I grab an objects from a list and I move it on this map, I release the mouse button and the item is placed there.Now the problem is: I build a custom component for this trying to emulate the item renderer for performance and recyclage, implement drag-and-drop on objects and request the areas that are missing?

I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too.What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.

*I will not use hitTest on bitmaps because all bitmaps are wrapped in another component,as they,for now are itemrenderers.

What i need is to 1. load an XML node and gathering report names, and listing these into a List component from flash cs42. in turn when any report name is clicked or rolled over, (in a dynamic text field) the report description for that reportname will show!

regarding the List Component of flash, I have an instance of it in a movie and it works fine when I test it, but when that movie is loaded into my main movie, the List btn doent function and I get the following error:

I'v double checked everything, I'v rebuild the entire component of the movie that required the List component and still nothing.

I have two Lists (components) on stage. The first one (mainList populates from an XML called topics.xml

on event handler change, I want to load the second list on the other list component, called subList..It's not loading.. I believe it's because when it reads the data from my topics list, it reads topic1.xml instead of "topic1.xml" ( reads without the quotes). If I unquote line v.list.load("subtopic.xml"), it works, but I need it to be loaded from the XML..

I have a list component which I use to display a list of songs in a music application. Next to each item in the list I need to add a little mp3 player. The mp3 player has a preloader to show the mp3 is loading, then a play/stop toggle button. Does anyone know how to use the cellrender to add this mp3 player to each item in a Flash List component?

I have a list component on the stage in an AS3 movie. I populate it with values at runtime and the user can select multiple values. When a button is clicked I want the list to reset to a state where nothing is selected, all I can figure out is to set the selected index to 0 and have the first position on the list either blank or reading "choose from the list" and make the code ignore this if it is selected. Is there a way to reset list (and combobox components) to nothing selected.

I am an inexperienced user of Flash CS4 Pro (v10.0.2). I am attempting to use the List component with ActionScript 3.0 to make a different image display when a user clicks each item in a list. I did find a tutorial that showed me how to make different text display using a dynamic text box and the following ActionScript:

In this case, the user clicks an item in the list, defined by the label value in the dataProvider parameter of the List component, and text displays as defined in the data value in the dataProvider parameter.

How do I load XML from a local file into a List component in MXML Flash Builder 4?
I tried using Actionscript to create a loader, but I can't seem to add an event listener to the loader. I've tried to create a local service but I couldn't get that to work either.
I'm making an XML driven AIR app. I plan on having multiple XML files being used - some for content and some for storing settings, state etc.

I want to make for my fellow classmates. The idea is to have to lists with selectable items in each of them. And they are supposed to be tasks, one list with the "To Do" items, and one with the "Done" items. What I want is that the .swf can remember(save) what items I have moved from one list to the other from time to time.
Example:
List1(To do list):
* Homework [code]..........
and when I click on "Homework" and a button, it would go from list1 to list2(i have made this work).
List1(To do list):
* Fix motorcycle
* Clean the garage[code]........
But of course when I close the .swf, the lists would be reset until next time I open it.I was thinking of something with .xml files for each lists, so I would rewrite the .xml's when I transfer one thing from list1 to list2.
