Implicit coercion of type String to type Number. I'm using toFixed cause 0.14 * 50 was giving me 7.000000001 instead of 7.
I'm doing some calculation with numbers and would like to only print an integer (the number without the decimals).I thought that the toFixed() method of the Number class would do the trick, and it does most of the time. But quite frequently strange values are returned. Here are 2 examples:
Number(0.002).toFixed(0) returns
"0." while
Number(1.002).toFixed(0) returns
"1" (without the period)
Once in a while, Number(0.002).toFixed(0) returns "1"
Needless to say that's not the expected behaviour. Am I not using this method correctly?
*edit: I know I just have to do int(0.002) to get 0 but I'd like to understand that strange behaviour.
how can i convert a string ending in a number to a number? lets say i have a string such as somestring3 how can i convert that to a number 3?

I'm trying to convert a string to number and no matter what I do, get strings still.

And this traces false. I also tried parseInt and get a type coercion error.
I don't understand why my number generates more than two decimal places after toFixed is applied. Am I misunderstanding the purpose of toFixed()?

Inside my code i have some variables declared as Numbers, and i get some others from an external source; these variables can either be Numbers or String representation of Numbers. Now, i have to implement some equality controls on these variables, and since i don't know in that moment which type are them of, i'm converting all of them to Numbers (i don't need and neither want to compare strings) via the Number() function which accepts either Numbers or Strings as an input. These controls can compare 2 single variables or a variable and a sum (or subtraction) of other variables, for example:

I have a Flash Builder 4.6 project that is referencing an external ActionScript calculation library (swc). I am having some annoying issues when trying to convert a number to a string for display.

The first assignment of totalFuelCosts is fine, but the second to totalEmissions constantly gives me the following error: 1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type String to an unrelated type Number I initially used toString() which worked fine, then about 10 minutes later gave me an error. So I switch to String() which again works fine, then about 10 minutes later gives me an error. I have also click 'Project' 'Clean' and cleaned all projects, this clears the error, but it comes back again about 10 minutes later.
For my calculator i am having trouble storing a number inside a string variable.

I have found little to no flash to C++ documentation, let alone Flash to C++ over the internet. What I want to do: -Have flash send a string (or number) from a website to a server running a C++ program -The C++ program will receive the data and do something with it -After that, the C++ program would send back a response -Flash would then accept the response My goal is to make a simple MMO, but I can't start it without a server program to handle the players. I don't need a super-complicated example, just something simple, kinda secure and coded in AS3 and C++.

The string (score0.text) will have an "s" at the end as the time is counted in seconds and tenths, so I will be receiving something along the lines of "8.1s" as a value.. I would like to take score0.text, remove the "s" then *1000 the amount as a number before use..

View 1 RepliesIm looking to be able to find a number (any number) within a text string, what i ultimately want to do is crop the number out of the string to just be left with a number value, the only problem is the string could be any length and the number doesnt necessarily start at any point from the last characterI have items on the stage named 'image0', 'textfield2', 'button500' etc, as you can see the prefix before the number isnt a fixed length so I couldnt use substr and set an index, and since the number could be any number i couldnt set the index as a certain value before the end of the string. Working with JSON and some command strings I am building are getting lengthy.
i want to convert a string to a number...

If the input value is "1" then it's ok. But if the input value is "-1" then I don't get the negative number. It just outputs "1"

I am working on an Flash application that reads data from XML files. I ran into an issue where when Actionscript converts strings to numbers, it returns values different from the initial numeric string. For example:
Original string: 90330135147081210 Number("90330135147081210") returns 90330135147081220
I cannot figure out why it does it. Does anyone have any idea. I tried compiling under both Flash CS3 and CS4, and it always
