Is there any way I can determine why an animation in a "Graphics" library object of 10 frames length does not play if the main time line has only 1 frame? When the same item is changed to "MovieClip", it plays fine, regardless of the number of frames!

If I set an Object = null, does that remove all references to the Object's variables assuming there are no external references to said variables? Or do I have to manually set all said variables = null?

the script i wrote is working fine. but the script attached to the flash player which i have no control over is throwing a script error (im using IE8).how can i fix this? if i run it locally there is no error.
'null' is null or not an object
try { document.getElementById("").SetReturnValue(__flash__toXML(function() { return document.location.hostname; }()) ); } catch (e) { document.getElementById("").SetReturnValue("<undefined/>"); }
but this is from flash script and i dont have control over it. it just say JScript - script block.

When you cast null to an object using Object(null), the result is an object.When you cast undefined to an object using Object(undefined), the result is an object.But saying null as Object or undefined as Object remains null.Why is this? I can't find anything in the documentation about this.
The objects that result from these casts can have properties set on and read from them. It's as if the cast created information, or removed whatever special information the null and undefined values have. But there's no indication in the AS3 documentation that the null and undefined special types are actually objects.

I have a class tied to a library item, but no matter what I do, if I access any of the children (added via the stage in the Flash IDE) in the constructor of the class, they always return null and give me #1009 errors.

I am trying to add an EventListener to a MC, but I am getting the 1009 error. My script is referencing a MC that does exist. I have verified that my code is typed correctly, and that my instance names are correct.I am creating a portfolio site. On the first frame I have my main navigation (well, it's actually not the first frame. I alpha-fade everything in so it's really the 6th or 7th, but I'm not sure how pertinent that is). The main navigation works fine (5 movie clips, fyi). Clicking them will move to a different frame, and the information and sub navigation for the frame will fade up. It is the sub navigation that I am having trouble with.[code]
As you can see, it doesn't even get to the function before it gets thrown off. I have verified that the instance names are correct. The script and the MC I am trying to add it too [I/]are[I/] in the same frame, which is what's stumping me. Normally you get 1009 when the object you're trying to reference is not there, but mine is!!Obviously there is something wrong with my EventListener. I am not sure what else do; there is a gap in my understanding of AS.

I have an object which is assigned a number of properties:
var project_array:Array = [];
var slideObject:Object = {
project_title : myXML.projects.project[i].title.toUpperCase(),
[Code].....
but I'm not quite sure where to place this. If I place it outside of the object constructor, I get "term is undefined", I guess because it doesn't know what project_clips_array is - but if I declare project_clips_array in the constructor, it appears to need to be defined, i.e. I can't create a blank property. But I can't place it in the constructor either, because it doesn't seem to allow me to run a function within an object constructor. What is the proper syntax or arrangement of code for executing this function to get the array within the object?

Is there anyway I can effectively call the equiv. of setText on a Flex Graphics object ?Specifically I'm using a custom cell renderer to display data in a datagrid. The renderer uses the Graphics object to set the background colour of only a portion of the cell (say the left half) based upon the underlying data. I would like to be able to have text over only that portion of the cell which has the background colour (eg centred within the left half). I know all the widths (of both the cell itself and the graphics object) but I don't know how I can set text (centred) over the graphics object.

Lets say I have a customMovieClip. I sometimes draw an ellipse with customMovieClip.graphics and sometimes a rectangle. Now I want to know what was the shape ( ellipse/rect) that was created using a particular graphics object. Doing this would enable me to pinpoint what exactly to do with that customMovieClip() instance.

I have been working on a Flash movie that loads variable data from an external XML file and dynamically displays the item names in a menu which may then be clicked to display other dynamically-loaded content that corresponds to the menu item that was clicked. I have now come to a standstill in the project as there is something I'd like to achieve but simply cannot work out how. This is my first attempt at working with XML in Flash and one of my early attempts at using variables. What I'm trying to achieve is; once the user has viewed the item's content, they can simply click "next" and "previous" buttons to display all of the content for the next or previous items in the XML document.
I know it probably sounds simple and I'm sure some of you could achieve this in 5 minutes (!) but I can't get my head around some of the coding. I assume previousSibling and nextSibling would come into play here as well as some sort of functions which access arrays of data for the previous and next items, but I'm just not sure how to correctly put these things to use. Rather than post my code and example images of the stage up here on the forums, I've created an html page here: [URL]

I have a Sprite in which I have drawn a circle with a fill. Later on, I wish to modify the color of this circle. I have retrieved the Graphics object from the Sprite using getChildAt(), and have tried:
getChildAt(i).graphics.beginFill(0x550000);
however this does not work. I've RTFM'd but can't figure out exactly how to deal with the Graphics object.

I am making a Flash CS5 application in which the user draws transparent overlays on a Sprite placed on top of an image. The user needs to be able to erase his input as in MS Paint, Adobe Photoshop, or GIMP. Because the Sprite is on top of an image, there is no safe clear color I can think of to draw over the section that the user has just rubbed his eraser over

I am trying to create a custom object which will display particular graphics at a particular time (when the movie tells the object to show something). Well I made my object (the way I thought it would work) and I encountered a problem when I called graphics functions from the main movie.
I made a very stripped down version of the same object to test and see what was going wrong. Apparently, I can call "Draw()" directly from inside the constructor and it will use the draw methods, but I cannot call it from the movie (like in the script below) and I can't call it from another function in the object if that function is not called during the constructor.
The question is... am I doing this right? The simple version of my end goal would be to create this object and have a function that I can call in the object something like "DrawImage(imagePath:String)" and it will use the graphics to draw the image.
In the movie:
----------------------------------------------
ActionScript Code:
import com.experimental.DynamicSprite;
import flash.display.Sprite;
[Code].....

Is it possible to draw a Bitmap to a Graphics-Object like
this.graphics.beginBitmapFill(bitmapData, matrix, false);
this.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, w, h);
this.graphics.endFill();
with an offset?
A simple moveTo(x, y) call before beginBitmapFill does not work :/ Neither does changing the x and y value of drawRect... (That just seems to have the same effect as an translation with the matrix...) Additionally I don't want do draw that thing in a separate Graphics-Object and add that one into the other...

I am drawing some lines in my program using
graphics.lineTo(xx, yy);
The program has a background image over which these lines are drawn.The problem which I am facing is that the image overshadows the lines and the lines are not visible to the user.Since these lines do not have an id, I am not sure as to how I can assign a depth to them?

So I have two movie clips linked with classes- one with the class "theList" and one with the class "challengeBar". I need to use a function in challengeBar to access a function in the theList. They are both immediate children of the stage.so for now I have this (in the challengeBar class)-
public function populate(){
this.textBox1.text = myList.dequeue();
}
should it be something along the lines of root.myList.dequeue? or stage.myList.dequeue? How can I access that function?

I'm trying to understand how the Flex framework draws objects (Button, Label, Image, etc.). The Button class seems to draw itself by addChild()ing its ProgrammaticSkin. However, where in the framework is the Graphics object being passed around in the hierarchy to achieve the drawing. I want to get to the level of 2D API.

I am wondering if it is possible to get the data that is stored in a shape/graphics object in flash using actionscript 3?
In my project I would like to be able to draw a shape and then read all the points in that shape into my script. The reason for that is that I need go generate lines from those points that I later can use to check if my characters velocity intersects with any of them.
