ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Dynamically Create Radial Gradient In Circle
Dec 10, 2010
I've been trying to learn just now how to dynamically create a radial gradient in a circle. All the pages that I can find use the command 'beginGradientFill', but when I use it I get the following messages:
Warning: 1060: Migration issue: The method beginGradientFill is no longer supported. For more information, see the Graphics class..
and
TypeError: Error #1006: beginGradientFill is not a function.
Unfortunately I can't seem to find the replacement, or any other pages that describe an alternative to that function. What is the way to do a radial gradient now?

I have a graphic symbol of a circle that has a radial gradient fill of yellow to red. All I want to do is have it change from yellow to red to red to yellow. I tried the advanced color settings but that doesnt quite do what I want. With the color settings.. it changes the complete tint of the object. I want it to look like it is tweening the gradient not the object. So if the object had a yellow center with a red outer edge I want it to chenge to a red center with a yellow outer edge. How do I accomplish this?

I'm trying to create spinning rays in actionscript to use in my website.Below is the rough idea of what i'm trying to create.Is it possible to create absolutely with 0 images.Following is the actionscript code in which i couldn't figure out how to add gradient, transperant background and little radial gradient to create glow effect.
Code:
function CreateRays():Shape {
var ray:Shape = new Shape();
ray.graphics.beginFill(0xFF9900,.5);
ray.graphics.lineStyle(1,0xFF9900,.5);
[code]....
If you paste above code in 1st frame of your scene with nothing on your scene, it will give you sweet rotating rays!

So it has been posed to me to create a Radial Gradient Blur on a still frame of a video. I wanted to ask the community how they would go about doing this after posing my own solution.
Here is the concept solution to me:
1. Create a bitmap from the still frame
2. Create a gradient filled shape with alpha from 0-100, center out.
3. Apply a blur filter to the bitmap made from the video still
4. Set the bitmaps mask to the gradient filled shape
5. Position and overlay the newly created/masked image over the video itself to generate the gradient blur effect.
EDIT: Here is a link to a good example for what I am trying to achieve. I know it can be done.

Indeed, i would like to inrease the RGB values of my radial gradient of my shape every 1 or 3 frames. I did it manually, but its very long. So i would like to know if anyone can help me to make it with code, it's will be most efficient and fast. I've already created my shape with a radial gradient. Now i would like just to increase the RGB values of my radial gradient.[code]

Does anyone know how to mask in a circle? To try to clarify: If you had a clock face with the minute hand at 12, as the minute hand sweeps round it reveals a picture. Here is an example of what I'm looking to do (the orange logo at the top)[URL]

I bought a Flash video tutorial online for Animating and the FIRST step is to create a circle with the circle tool, and the guy does it online, and it fills itself in. I repeat his actions exactly and I cannot get the same result at all. I just get a circle.

I'm creating a mask in what can best be described as a glorified spotlight effect program. It involves dynamically creating a gradient circle that will be the spotlight in question. However, I've run into a problem while creating gradient circles dynamically.
Code:
// in CS4
var testCircle:Sprite = new Sprite();
testCircle.cacheAsBitmap = true; // this can be true or false; doesn't fix the problem
[code]....
However, no matter what you put as CIRCLE_RADIUS, this will always output an approx 100-radius gradient in the center, and whatever is left over will have 0.0 alpha the rest of the way.So if you make one with a radius of 300, it'll show up as a circle with radius 100 and 200 pixels either side of blank space.Intersetingly enough, if you set the radius to less than 100 (say, 80), it'll cut off the circle at the radius and leave you with a hard edge.
I've found that if you set the ending alpha to anything other than 0.0, the full gradient is rendered. But I don't really want a hard edge Of course, fancy matrix transformations can fix this. But even those are unpredictable for some strange reason...even an identity matrix scales it drastically.Or do I have to go with pre-rendered ones or fancy matrixwork?

I'm building a website. The background for each of the sections of the site is a different colored linear gradient. Does anyone have any ideas on how to build a class, prototype or series of functions that will dynamically change the background gradient from one colored gradient to another over a period of time?

Basically I redraw a circular object ("moon") every frame, reposition it and rotate it. I want a gradient fill that's offset to the left (-x) by the circle's radius. Instead of wasting your time talking about what I think it might be, I'll just show you the code . . .
For simplicity's sake, I've changed the colors to blue, red, green (in that order). Only the last one's showing up. I've tweaked the vales in the matrix itself for hours, but I can't really change anything. I can get the gradient fill to center on the circle, but that's the best I've done so far . . .
ActionScript Code:
var centerX = Stage.width/2;
var centerY = Stage.height/2;
var radX = 210;
[Code]....

For a project I'm working on I'm trying to create a Flash file with a constantly color-shifting gradient that fills up the entire browser window. For a better explanation please see the following link:

Don't worry about the moving balls, those are just there to challenge the frameRate of the movie, which has a maximum of 60. If you look at the background you can see the gradient effect I'm referring to.
The method I'm currently using to create the gradient animation is a simple shape tween on the Flash timeline that tweens between shapes with different gradient colors. I'm definitely not achieving the performance I want using this technique.
I've also tried creating a static gradient and shifting its color over time using ColorTransform, but this doesn't offer any better performance.
So that's a long-winded way of asking what people think would be a better way to create such a color-shifting gradient while getting better performance? Some examples might be through bitmapData or using PixelBender, but I'm not versed enough in these techniques to know which would get me the best performance.

Essentially what the project consists of is I have random balls appearing on the screen and moving around and I need to make it so that the user is able to draw a circle around the ball (may be more than one) and have that balls dissapear and count the number of balls circled.This project is being done in flash builder 4.5 and is being made for the android platform as part of a senior project.I have been able to randomly create the balls and give them a random movement. I have also been able to figure out how to allow the user to draw on the screen.
What I am trying to figure out is how to make it so that if the user draws a circle around the balls make it so that I know these balls have been circled and make them dissapear and have the number of balls inside the area calculated.I have thought about making the entire background a grid and make it so that I can track somehow the line made by the user and then track the coordinate of the balls then if it is within that area it means that the ball has been circled but I would like something more efficient than that.

Just a quick question today, is there any way to quickly and simply fit a string of text into a circular shape? Almost as if the text field was circular instead of rectangular. I have been working on a game where the text is presented in a series of speech bubble shapes, and previously I've had to manually insert " " around the text to get it to fit. This was a bit of a hassle but overall not too much extra work. Now, however, the game has been translated into 14 different languages and I sure as hell am not going through all that text to sort it out again haha
If there's no quick and easy way to do it (I don't really want to go down the route of using a loop to search for the last space in the first X characters and inserting a new line, etc) I'm just going to contact the artist and ask him to make the speech bubbles rectangular lol I did a google search to see if I could find anything but most of the stuff I found either wasn't relevant or said "there isn't an easy way to do it yet" but I just wanted to check here first.

I'm trying to figure out how to dynamically place numbers around a circle (similar to a clock face) but dynamically so if the number of numbers around the circle is 5 or 27.. they would space out correctly. I found some code (below) that looked like it might help but I'm having trouble implementing it. I don't know how I actually tie this back to the circle and numbers.

I apologize if it is unclear for what I am looking for but a simple description is I am making a simple game where you are able to circle a moving item on screen, then once it is circled the item disappearsand you gain a point.

I am trying to dynamically draw a circle and fill it up with some color. Drawing a circle is pretty easy job for me, but fill it up with some color seems not happening today.
PHP Code:
Circle function starts
function fnDrawArc(mc,x,y,r,angle){
mc.beginFill(0xFF0000); // this is not working....
mc.moveTo(x+r,y);
for(i=1;i<=angle;i++){

The text is rotated and placed on an arc but the rotation and placement is not that accurate. Anyone who can point me to some example or tutorial where it has already been implemented?I came across a flash component but it is paid : [URL]..
