I have 3 movieclips, and I want them to work like buttons. It's for a website, so they need to redirect the user to a URL.
The entire flash file has 7 layers, and one of these layers is called "AS3", and is ment for all my actionscript. So, i figured if I gave the MC's an instance name, then I could write the AS3 in the "AS3"-layer. But I can't seem to get any code to work.

I am trying to make a sprite button with graphics and can't make it work. I have successfully added text fields so I know the path is correct. I suspected my code was correct and confirmed it should be, after reading several tutorials showing the process for creating sprite buttons with graphics. Anyway, I imported nearly every class on Earth, but certainly everything which needs to be. Stage is gray and 800x600.The graphics code by itself with appear, but not when linked to the sprite. Also, the sprite won't appear no matter what. Another interesting piece of the puzzle: nothing will trace, not even objects such as textfields which actually appear and function on the stage when I text the code.

I'm attempting to allow only the buttons that are in my array work during MOUSE_OVER.
The tricky thing for me is identifieing more than one button in the same if statement. Does the onButtonOver function need to be in a for loop?

View 2 RepliesI am trying to make an index page with buttons for a photography site.the entire page is built in flash so far. I have created a drop down menu that is a Movieclip with 5 buttons.I can not seem to assign an external web page to each buttons that are under the movie clip drop down menu. Is this a possible? The Movie clip is run by mouse-over the word "studio Gallery" button. This drops down the 5 gallerbuttons (Portrait, children, wedding, Artistic Babies, etc...). In Flash 8 Pro I know I can assign an external web page named children on the main page but how do I assign these to the buttons in the drop down once the movieclip is made. Is this where I need to use folders with extra layers in the folder to make it work?

View 2 Repliestrying to make the close button work on this homework project. This app scatters photos on the stage, randomly and at random angles. They are drag and droppable and the clicked photo comes to the fore. Each photo has a close button intended to remove the photo from the stage, this last is what won't work. I know its a common topic, but nothing I've tried has worked so far. onClickCloseBtn is the problem.

I have made a button inside a movieclip but I can�t get the button to take me to a frame outside the movieclip. When I use:

I'm creating an Entry Page slideshow here with Flash Cs3 and AS2: [URL] I'd like to be able to click on the whole slideshow (or the "Enter Site" text) to go to another page on the site, which I'm calling "[URL]." I've read various tutorials all day and tried many things, but couldn't seem to apply any "on release" action to the "Enter Site" text that would work. I even created an invisible button (putting a keyframe on just the HIT state and deleting it from the UP state), named the instance "invbutton3", and then typed in this action on the first frame and inserted a keyframe at the end of the show:

However- I cannot get the buttons in this movieclip to work. Perhaps I'm trying to get too fancy, having animations planned between the proper button states, but right now I'm just having troubles trying to get the label for my button set dynamically using a dynamic text field. The error message I'm getting is: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property btnLabel through a reference with static type <class-path>:MenuButton. I created a MovieClip symbol pointing to my class MenuButton. The symbol has 5 layers:
1) Actions which just includes stops on each proper state (ie: normal, over, down).
2) The 5 button states (ie: normal, normalToOver, over, overToNormal, down).
3) The label that is the button's name, which is only a DynamicText field with the name btnLabel.
4) Images of the button in each of the proper states, with extra frames to allow for tweening
5) A layer I was hoping to use as a hit-box. My MenuButton class is defined as follows:

I'm pretty much a beginner at creating websites in flash. I've used flash to animate before but that's not really worling in this case. Basically, I'm just trying to make a button that's inside a movieclip go to a specific frame within the movieclip it's in. This is the error message I keep getting:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

In the first frame of the main time line i have 7 movieclips which are buttons. Within these movieclips there are additional buttons with a simple rollover function to change the background colour.
The problem I'm having is that the action on the buttons doesn't work. I'm guessing this is something to do with the AS i have within the mc.
I have an animation I made in After Effects. I exported it from AE as a SWF. I imported it into Flash CS4, brought it to the stage, and then put a button inside of it. The mouseover of the button works. But I can't the button to perform any actions. I get this error:

I ve got a drag and drop code working, but what I really want to do is have a check answers button that tells the user, you have none correct, or two correct or all wrong... I have one target area, and 3 correct answers (out of 7) so I would like to let the user put as many ansers on the target as they want and then check if they have any correct, also a reset code would be nice to put everything back where it started... I tried to break my code up but the events then went mad, Here is what i have so far, it works instantly and lets crrect answers stay and incorrect bounce back..

Is it possible to make the flash content go back to some previous frame when the user clicks on the back button in the browser? Similarly, can the the refresh button be used to refresh to the same frame and not go back to the starting frame?
