ActionScript 3.0 :: Making Something Return Back?

Jan 2, 2011

I was wondering if you could help me. I was trying to make a 'make-your-own-face-game', and succeeded, except one thing. When you click on a button to see the options for hair, the four buttons come from off the stage to on the stage by changing their x and y attributes. But then when they click the button to see the options for hair a second time, i want them to return off of the stage, and am getting problems. No syntax or as3 problems, but they wont go back.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Making XML.onLoad Return A Value?

Apr 7, 2011

After using Google and these forums I've discovered that it's not possible to return a value directly from this function. However, I still need some kind of workaround, so here is my scenario:This function overrides the default onLoad function when I load up my XML. It works perfectly.

[Code].....

I want to somehow use this functionality to return the value of sContent when it is loaded, so I can use the line

PHP Code:

returnContent(x)

in conjunction with the following function

PHP Code:

function returnContent(Nume) {    xmlContent.load(x);}

to return a string from the xml on an on load event.

I.e. - on mouseclick, a texfield.text variable is assigned to returnContent(x);

ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Back Buttons - Return To Previous Frame?

Apr 24, 2008

Basically, I have a flash app with various frames, each frame contains a "help" button, which when clicked takes the user to one seperate frame with various informative instructions on it. The help button is like a universal tool incase the users need help.

Now, no matter what frame the user is on, if they click the help button, sure enough, it takes them to the "help" frame. The big problem I have, is that I cannot fathom a way to make the users RETURN to the exact frame they came from.

For instance, the user is viewing a frame in the app called "Question 2", they get stuck, they click on the "help" button, it takes them to the "help" page. After veiwing the instructions, they need to return to the question 2 frame, possibly by clicking a "back" button of some description. Likewise if they were on a frame called "Question 3" - they need to return to this frame if they click the help button.

In a nutshell, I need to create a button that takes the user back to the previous frame from the "help" frame, like a dynamic link back or something.

Flash CS5 on Windows 7 I have a problem with a project I am creating. I have created 3 buttons which when clicked open other movieclips for each button. On each of the movieclips that the buttons send them to, all have a back button to return them back to the original view.

This back button works fine apart from once they are back at the original view, the 3 buttons stop working.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading Swfs And Making Calls Back To Parent SWF?

May 9, 2009

I'm trying to understand how to make referrences from one movie clip to another where one has "loaded" the other. I'm not seeing how to relate the two.keep in mind that I've just gotten comfortable with spittin things up and loading them from external swfs, etc.Lets say that I have a main.swf with a set of 3 buttons(self managed MovieClips actually) that each dynamically load 3 swfs with individual content The first of these sub movie clips(e.g. web.swff) has a set off say 3 thumbnails.  I want to be able to have these thumbnails invoke the actions of the 3 buttons up in the main calling movie but I am not clear how to go about calling these functions when they are not in the same scope as the main move. I keep thinking that if I had these thumbnails in a clip within my main.but I still hit this same issue of making a correct reference.This is just a current example. If there is a simpler or better way to explain this kind of communication feel frer to ignore this example or tell me to just go read a tutorial somewhere

// snippet from main.flafunction click_web( e ) {  var chl_mc:MovieClip = my_lc.add_content("web.swf");}
function click_motion( e ) {  my_lc.add_content("motion.swf");}

Anyways I am using action script 3.0 and I created multiple layers using just one scene.  I created a layer with lables on them to mark where I want my buttons to point to and go to.  I have the stop (); on the first frame.  And I made my buttons mostly interactive with movie symbols and tweens.My first scene I have 2 doors, the user can pick which door to go to and it takes them into a different path.I made the buttons that are clicked to go forward, and then I tried to make an invisible button on the button edge of the scene to go backwards However, the PROBLEM is when I click my button to go backwards I am stuck on the first page and can't move forward.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Load Swfs From Array Back-to-back?

May 28, 2010

I am working on a having external swfs get loaded into the main swf one by one from an array.I can get the first one to load, but it just keeps on playing the first item in the array over and over, instead of loading the next movie. I have a container on my stage, cleverly named "container" and I am using AS2 and loadMovie.

I am guessing my conditon on my if statement is off, but I am not sure how to tell the onEnterFrame to check the currentframe of the loaded swf and not the container itself. I might be way off, but in my mind I feel like this mostly makes sense, but knowing Flash it is probably not nearly enough coding.I might also add this won't be running on the web, so I don't need to worry about preloading swfs since it will be running directly off a PC onto a screen in our office.Here is my code:

Code:
var myClips:Array = ["movie1.swf", "movie2.swf", "movie3.swf", "white_logo.swf"];
var i:Number = 0;
_root.container.onEnterFrame = function() {[code].....

ActionScript 2.0 :: Playing Movie Clips Back To Back?

Sep 14, 2011

I've got the standard scene 1 with three frames on it. the first frame has a movie clip with about a 70 frame timeline. the second frame has a movie clip with about a 20 frame timeline. the third frame is black with a stop action. i'm trying to make a leaderboard banner, and i need each clip to play one after the other.

right now, when ctrl+enter it plays nothing. i actually have to rewind it to have it play the first clip. then it just repeats the first clip and completely skips the second. in the first clip's timeline, I have a parent.gotoAndPlay(2); on the last frame.

It seems not to be possible, since I'm getting a signature error in Flash, when compiling. For example, the following set of class do not compile (the code in function definition doesn't matter):

ActionScript 3.0 :: Go Back With The Back Arrow But Can't Go Forward With The Forward Arrow

Mar 5, 2011

I have been working on a tutorial in Flash on the topic of Flash () for two days, and I am just finishing up on a template. I have fixed five bugs, but I cannot think of how to fix this last one. I'd rather actually fix the problem this time, instead of improvising . So, here is what is going on:

I have this thing at the end where you have to enter in the code that I taught the viewer to proceed, then hit the continue button to finish the tutorial. But for some reason, whenever I try to go back with the back arrow, it does, but then I can't go forward with the forward arrow until I reach the first frame that contains actual tutorial ("page" 2). Then it works again. It seems really random, but there is [obviously] a good explanation for it. I thought it might have something to do with the fact that all of the arrows up to the "test" part, excluding the back arrow there, have the exact same instance name. However, "page" 2 is the 2nd time it is used (introduction, then the "page" 2, then 3, 4, 5, and 6, then the test part thing), so it makes less sense that it would work the 2nd time, but not the third, fourth, fifth, or sixth. And I know there's nothing wrong with the code itself:
