I created a movieclip with a star. Then, I creates a document class and I named it as Main.as.
In that document class I wrote:

I´m not posting here all the code, but you can easily see that I´m using x_origin and y_origin variables to keep the original position of the movie clip. I will use them to move the star back to the original position.
The problem is that instead of being 20 and 30 respectively, tracing them I see that they are both ZERO. So when I drop the star, instead of going to x=20,y=30 it moves back to x=0 and y=0. I´ve to get the star position relative to stage, but I can´t find anyway!
Im a complete beginner in Flex programming. I have an application with a main .mxml file, and a certain class Foo that I call from the .mxml. In Foo, I make a URLRequest and listen for the Complete event. Then I found myself with the returned data in a Foo function, but I have no idea how to communicate it to the .mxml part of the application ! I looked into ArrayCollections but I can't seem to understand how they work. Isn't there a way to modify, from inside the class, a variable with a global scope ?
View 5 RepliesIm trying to use dynamic SQL tables on my PHP server so I need to pass the table name to the PHP script. I don't understand why the Data Management system that sets up CRUD won't allow this extra parameter. It says it can only have one input: item. I can get all records, but when I try to create, update, or delete I get an error.
Or is there another way I can pass the tablename variable to the php file before I call any functions?
We have implemented a Flash photo slideshow on our site and it works just fine for most of our users. Whenever the xml.load(success) returns false I have the Flash email me a debug report. For the life of me I can not find a common thread between all of these people having problems with the Flash. I don't think it's a cross-domain issue because it works for most people, and I have the crossdomain.xml files where they should be.

I've got a Gridcolumn in a Datagrid (Spark). The Column's dataprovider is a Number value that gets updated via Binding.Now, without an item renderer the cell displays the correct values.If I set an item renderer, I can't access the values in this renderer.My renderer looks like this, so nothing really do here (for now) but to trace the value, but the value is always NaN.

I'm trying to create a class which will create a tween for several different instances of an object. I am creating the instances in the Document Class. The trick is, I would like to specify how long each tween will take.
Here's what I have so far:

As you can see, I have a variable "myTime" which syncs the timer and the tween. This causes to tween to repeat and the clouds to continually scroll across the stage. How can I determine the var myTime at the time I create each instance of the Movie Clip mcCloud?
I've got a document class (EgoGame.as) and another class (Ball.as) which has been duplicated to deal with several different video pieces. Inside the document class is a list of 'if' statements which decide which video should be played. At the moment I'm doing it the old fashioned way whereby if the condition is true....it tells the relevant Ball class to gotoAndPlay a certain frame within the linked movieclip...

I'm running into difficulty passing a strongly typed object, AttractView, to another method, addView() which expects an IWizardView interface that AttractView does implement. When I pass it as-is (as shown below), I get the compile error CaptureApplication.as, Line 120 1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type AttractView to an unrelated type IWizardView. Casting to either IWizardView or BaseView before passing yields a similar error at run time.

I have a class called Unit. When I use this class in a .fla file, I create it by saying:

They are located in the same package and are both importing each other. I am trying to call a function from Class2 within Class1, but I don't know the syntax. I am the fan of kirupa but this is my first thread in forum. I have some problem with sendAndLoad method with actionscript 2.0. I am developing a online game with flash mx , MS SQL 2000 and asp. The problem is I send the data using sendAndLoad method to asp file and get data back from asp file. But when the internet connection is not good there is a problem like jam or lost packets. How can I prevent the lost of packets. Some of the data are important. Is there any way to solve this?

The movie runs fine and shows no errors, but when my browser opens forms.html the data is not there. I assume this is because I'm using navigateToURL(new URLRequest("form.html) and therefore opening a new instance of form.html rather than the one I've already loaded into flash. Am I right? and if so how do I open the pre-loaded version? Or....am I way off and have failed to understand something quite basic?
A map of the US comes up and users will select where they work, before getting to the next page, which is a form where they fill out the rest of their contact information. The Submit button sends the form variables to a php file on a different server which then stores their info in a database and will take the "location" variable from the map (in the previous .swf) to send the user the correct demo map.
My vars from the form post to the PHP and a confirmation e-mail is sent to the user etc. etc. this works fine...i'm just confused as to how to send the location variable that was pre-selected to send along with the form.
Goal: To build an Internet Mapping Site (IMS) using FlashScenario: Using Manifold GIS for the backend. It is a full scale GIS software which easily outputs data (geometry and tabular) into xml. It has built in IMS capabilities, but theWould like to build an IMS using Flash as the front end, and Manifold as backend. How would I set up something where the GUI and display were Flash, the user interacts with the Flash (Pan, Zoom, Selection, Query(SQL)), have Flash fetch that from Manifold via xml, and display the new extent, query results, etc.?
So there would need to be geometry data retrieval and display as well as tabular. For example the user should be able to use a "Zoom by Extent" feature where they draw a rectangle on the map, it returns the coordinates of the box to Manifold, Manifold returns it, etc. On the other hand they need to be able to query the datasets (simple sql queries).I hope this makes some sense. I'm a noob in many aspects to backend so I'm just trying to get a handle on whether this is possible, and what backend needs to be implemented in order to make this happen? Would you know of a possilble better method? Silverlight, etc?
This problem is a lot more complex than title implies.I am trying to pass public var "quote" from player class document to movieclip function and on to a 2nd gigyaSocial.as method. I can trace the var in player.as but, it disapears when I try to access it in the MovieClip.
