ActionScript 3.0 :: Preloader Null Error In Output?
Nov 13, 2009
I have a simple bar preloader in frame 1 of a main timeline
stop();
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, loading);
function loading(event:Event) {
var bytestotal = stage.loaderInfo.bytesTotal;
var bytesloaded = stage.loaderInfo.bytesLoaded;
var sclbar = Math.round(bytesloaded*100/bytestotal);
I made a preloader for a specific page on my site and it loads it and all but the scroll gallery i have, which is a movie clip, doesn't work at all, but it works fine if i just play the original file thats being loaded with the preloader. I cannot for the life of me figure it out. I get this output error[code]...
Working on a project and get this error on the Output Log TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at FlashSite_fla::MainTimeline/frame16() Here's every frame that is on, begins, or crosses frame 16
I don't understand the "heirarchy" of Flash Output Error Messages. For example: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
[Code]...
This error shows when I preview a SWF that calls en external swf. All the code listed in the Error Codes is contained in the external swf. In the TypeError -- where do I look for the problem code? bBrand_Gallery is a class description for the externally called swf. The externally called swf runs fine by itself. All functions in the package are declared as public functions. I know that the null object reference means that it's looking for the property of an object that is not yet instantiated. How do I find that object? Would it most likely be a variable that is not delacred publicly?
I believe the ArgumentError has to do with the fact that the DisplayObject in question is not "created" by the function startShow which includes the removeChild statement. How do I resolve that issue?? Is there a reference as to the best way to interpret these error messages?
I am having really annoying problems with Flash. I am using CS4 and the file uses AS 3.0. Anyway, on to the problem. Basically I am creating a flash-only website. Source code for main site:
[Code]....
After I have done this, the whole thing is not working anymore, and I get the following errors: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at website_fla::MainTimeline/frame2()[website_fla.MainTimeline::frame2:3] at flash.display::MovieClip/nextFrame()
My preloader keeps displaying an error when I try and load my SWF in it.
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at Main()
The swf works fine but the loader doesn't work with it. I worked out that it was because I used "stage" in the eventlisteners of the SWF file but if I remove these the game keys don't work, but the loader does.
I have a preloader which has this code (simplified):
Code: Select allvar loader:Loader = new Loader(); loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loaded); loader.load(new URLRequest("x.swf")) function loaded(e:Event):void {}
And x.swf has this code (very simplified): Code: Select alltrace(stage.stageWidth); When I run preloader, I get this error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at x_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
how to change different section with as3 and custom document class, everything run fine , but when i try to use the preloader tutorial that load the swf file , i run to some error it said " TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at Main/init() at Main()"
Main is the name of my custom document class, and here is my document class code
I just found the external preloader tutorial and it's Perfect, exactly what I needed! I just have one issue which I can't figure out.. It all works fine with other swf files such as the content.swf example it comes with, however when I try link it to a site I'm making (a fluid as3 layout) it states: "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at Website()" Here is the syntax - it's just the same as on the tut but trying to load 'website.swf'..
I am quite confident i am having no issue with my preloader codes and have managed to identify why i keep getting the Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. My preloader.swf is loading a home.swf. Within this home.swf i have some codes that makes reference to the stage. EG stage.stageWidth/2 Once i deleted away this line of code there is no error. Is there anyway that i can still reference my stage in home.swf without getting Error #1009?
I used an external preloader to call a swf is totally calling all the objects and functions through class, and there is nothing on the stage and timeframe. It shows TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at main() Isit because i must put something on the stage or timeline for it to load??
the script i wrote is working fine. but the script attached to the flash player which i have no control over is throwing a script error (im using IE8).how can i fix this? if i run it locally there is no error.
Out of good programming practice, I generally check for null displayobjects before trying to access a method or property of said object. Ive noticed that the IDE compiler output will bark at you if you do not check for nulls (while trying to access a null object), but it will continue to run unphased. It also doesnt show any errors in the flash player while trying to run it in a browser. So I guess my question is, what exactly happens when you try to access a null object? from what its showing me it doesn't cause any memory problems, doesn't crash the app, and it only displays an error if I am in the flash ide.
I have the following piece of code(part of a much bigger program). I this code I am re-using a motion that has been previously used successfully. The trace stmts are used to identify the exact location of the error and the error conditions as best I can.[code]
when pressing on a button that error comes up in the OUTPUT tabthe file is in the linkError #1006.rarThis is the navigation_actions code where are the codes of the navigation bar (the buttons)
var buttonArray:Array = new Array( ); var currentButton:Object = new Object; var navContainer:Sprite=new Sprite ;
I'm creating a simple gallery for a website which literally loads the next image when the image is clicked. I've set it up so that the images fade in. When i preview the .swf file in flash i get the below message:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.atOutside_Portrait_fla::MainTimeline/fl_FadeSymbolIn_12()Everything seems to work ok, but im wondering if this is going to cause any problems. I've copied in the action script text which i have used below.
stop() /btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToAndStopAtFrame_9); function fl_ClickToGoToAndStopAtFrame_9(event:MouseEvent):v oid
In my current flash project I keep getting this error in my output panel: Code:TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.at main_flash_fla::Acoustic_1/moveImage()at main_flash_fla::Acoustic_1/on2() However, It does not seem to effect the movie when I test it. All it has really accomplished is to annoy me by always popping up in my output panel.
Heres my question: Why does it choose to show up in my output as an error rather than my compiler error panel? Also, what then is the difference between an error in output vs compiler?
Code is working but i am getting the following error and it is driving me insane:
TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter hitTestObject must be non-null. at flash.display:isplayObject/_hitTest() at flash.display:isplayObject/hitTestObject() at PlatformGame/checkCollisions() at PlatformGame/gameLoop()
Here is my Frankenstein code...i just need it working. Error happens when I remove the numOfKeys-- where I examine the level. Had to remove some code because of length when posting here on FK.
Starting new thread for this topic as suggested by forum. I have a website which tweens movieclip pages (named home, bio, music, video and contact). Love the effect and trying to keep it. Main timeline contains the main buttons (home_btn, bio_btn, music btn, video_btn, contact_btn). Music page has a XML mp3 player contained in it with button control. Video page has an encoded video with no code.
I need the following:
1 - Music and video to shut off as those pages/movieclips tween off the stage. Gets annoying with them playing especially at the same time
2 - Music player to play correctly. It is not with the new code.
I have the following code. The "Tween Code" is on frame 1 of the main timeline of the movie. The "MP3 code" is on frame 1 of the music movie clip. I am getting the following ERROR message when running my movie. I ran the Debugger as I publish and it points to music.my_channel.stop(); in below code. My thought process on this was that it would reach out to the music movieclip, find my_channel and stop it.
I am not an expert in flash, but i do work with AS and tweak Flash projects , though not having deep expertise in it. Currently i need to revamp a flash website done by one another guy, and the code base given to me, upon execution is throwing the following error."--- TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null objectreference.atNewSite_fla::MainTimeline/__setProp_ContactOutP1_ContactOut_Contents_ 0() at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/frame1() --"The structure of the project is like, it has theifferent sections split into different movie clips. There is no single main timeline, but click actions on different areas of seperate movie clips will take them between oneanother.All the AS logic of event handling are written inline in FLA , no seperate Document class exists.
Preloader Movie clip is the first one getting loaded. As i understood the error is getting thrown initially itself, and it is not happening due to any Action script logic written inline, because it is throwing error even before hitting the first inline AS code.I am not able to figure Out what exactly it causing the problem, or where to resolve it. I setup the stuff online, for reference if anybody want to take a look at it, and here is the link.You need to have flash debugger turned ON in your browser, if need to see the exception getting triggered.

I added a flv into my Scene 1 then i added a new Scene.I just wanted to after finishing the .flv flash go to next scene.but when i added a new scene,and I test my movie,the .flv didnt show and i recieved these errors
stop(); button3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, playClick3); function playClick3(Event:MouseEvent):void { gotoAndStop(422); }
On frame 422 there is no code at the moment. I keep getting the error TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
I am trying to use the scroll pane component and I am having a few teething troubles. I have a scroll pane as a child object of a movie clip which is essentially a 'page', if I display this page it works fine and the scroll pane does too. If I then remove this page from the display list, go to another page and come back by readding it to the display list, I get the following error, even though nothing else has changed:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at fl.containers::ScrollPane/fl.containers:ScrollPane::endDrag()
The scroll pane is still visible and works correctly, but ideally I'd like to stop this error.
I'm trying to make a navigation system for my website where each nav item is loaded as an external .swf. I was able to get that functionality in place. The problem is I want to add a preloader for these external swfs as well.
The code I'm working with is this:
var loadedSWF:Loader = null; /** * Loads an SWF and adds it to container once complete * @param file The URL to the SWF to load
I did a picture slide show in flash CS5 where I used actionsript 3. I added a button so that when you click it will go to the next picture. Then on the last one it will go from the last picture and reset back to the first picture. I even added some music with a stop and play button so if you are playing some music and say you get tired of it while looking through the pictures you can click the play/ stop button and it will stop.[code]...
This error occurs when I go to test movie about half way through my photo gallery this message will pop up. The thing about it is that despite the error all my images load and play correctly as they should and my sound plays and stops as I ask it too. I guess I could ignore the error seeing as how everything works 100% fine despite the error but I was just wondering if this error is something serious or if I should be concerned?
We are trying to automate our flex application. After adding automation libraries to our project we get the following exception:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at mx.automation::AutomationManager$/addDelegates() at mx.automation::AutomationManager$/addDelegates() at mx.automation::AutomationManager$/addDelegates() at mx.automation::AutomationManager$/addDelegates() .....
We are using Flex 3.4 and maven2 to build the application. Flex-testing?
I've been using FlashTracer recently but it doesn't work in all browsers, so if I have to work in IE or some other browser I like to output trace actions to a TextField. Sometimes I will output to a javascript function as well. The only problem with this method is that I miss the runtime errors... for example, the runtime errors that are formatted like this:
