Actionscript 3 :: Adding An External .swf Preloader When Using Null Loader?
Mar 24, 2012
I'm trying to make a navigation system for my website where each nav item is loaded as an external .swf. I was able to get that functionality in place. The problem is I want to add a preloader for these external swfs as well.
The code I'm working with is this:
var loadedSWF:Loader = null;
/**
* Loads an SWF and adds it to container once complete
* @param file The URL to the SWF to load
I'm hoping to implement a preloader on a main.swf that measures the bytes etc loaded in an external.swf. My two concerns are that 1) this just isn't possible? 2) I can't have multiple preloaders on the main.swf, which I would if I used one for the external .swf. I intend to try and explain this in the best way I can what I have done so far, as I personally feel this is quite a complex task.
Here's the basics: I have an external .swf file, being loaded, using the following Action Script (3), in what I shall call, main.swf:
//---loader--- var swfLoader:Loader = new Loader(); addChild(swfLoader); var swfURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest("nameofswftobeloaded.swf"); swfLoader.load(swfURL); function loadHandler (event:Event){ var thumbsPanel:MovieClip = event.target.content; addChild(thumbsPanel);
This works fine. The Action Script I use after this simply allows me to control the external .swf from the main .swf so isn't necessary.. I finish the loader, with this: "swfLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadHandler);" So, this all works fine. However, as the external .swf contains images, it doesn't load instantly. I therefore need some kind of preloader to show how much of the external .swf is loaded. However, I tried placing this in the external .swf itself and it failed miserably - for some reason it basically didn't preload and the completed phase of the preloader just appeared.
I just found the external preloader tutorial and it's Perfect, exactly what I needed! I just have one issue which I can't figure out.. It all works fine with other swf files such as the content.swf example it comes with, however when I try link it to a site I'm making (a fluid as3 layout) it states: "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at Website()" Here is the syntax - it's just the same as on the tut but trying to load 'website.swf'..
The title describes the problem: Loader.load() is firing the INIT event, but in my listener it's reporting loader.content as null. The description for INIT event is "Dispatched by the associated LoaderInfo object when the properties and methods of the loaded SWF file are accessible."I'm loading a lot of JPG images, and 95 percent of the time it works fine; the init listener fires and reports valid loader. content.I absolutely need loader.content available because I need to set the bitmap smoothing property to true.I've tried using Event.COMPLETE and it has the exact same problematic behavior.
[URL] The website button function and External swf transition scripting is base on that tutorial. it would be great if i could let peoples to see the preloading process while my web loading the external swf file.. can any one here tell me how to add a preloader to show loading progress every time the external swf files loading?
I used an external preloader to call a swf is totally calling all the objects and functions through class, and there is nothing on the stage and timeframe. It shows TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at main() Isit because i must put something on the stage or timeline for it to load??
I have the following code which simply loads an external swf, puts it in the right place and should all be hunky dory.This works:
Code: var myLoader:Loader = new Loader(); addChild(myLoader); var url:URLRequest=new URLRequest("foobar.swf");[code].....
to set the dimensions of the loader so the external swf doesn't 'spill over', the result is a blank screen. No matter how high I set those dimensions it just doesn't display anything.
Im getting an error saying that the loader is null that i am trying to add to the stage. I dont know why. all I am trying to do is make a preloader, and its causing more of a headache than its worth All I want it to do is show the percentage of loaded. I have the event.complete listener there to go add the thumbnails once they are fully loaded.
I have an array of loaders loading .jpgs. After the Event.COMPLETE fires, I trace the content at the current page and it tells me the content is null, BUT on testing the images appear just fine. Here's my code:
I'm workig on my portfolio and here is what Im running into...en I debug my fla the following XML shows up with extra "xmlobj.childNodes[1].childNodes["Right here"]hen I browse the file in the debugger (variables section) instead of 0,1 and 2 for childNodes the are 0-5??? and every other one is all null values... also they show up as [1] [2] [3] directly under xmlobj when I expand it can anyone tell me whats up with my xml? if its my script or you think it is I'll post the code/fla if I need to... alsoMy xml will be dynamically created via a php -> mysql script eventually (I have that worked out I just need to get this working so I can properly format my php-> xml output for flash which is what I think my problem is.
I have a simple bar preloader in frame 1 of a main timeline
stop(); addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, loading); function loading(event:Event) { var bytestotal = stage.loaderInfo.bytesTotal; var bytesloaded = stage.loaderInfo.bytesLoaded; var sclbar = Math.round(bytesloaded*100/bytestotal);
I've builded this XML gallery, and suddenly Im getting an error when Im loading the pictures. Its only sometimes the error comes. TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter url must be non-null. at flash.display::Loader/_load() at flash.display::Loader/load() at imageviewer_xml_subcats_fla::MainTimeline/allLoadXML()
I have a main "shell" swf which, by clicking several buttons, will load/unload various external swfs into a Placeholder_mc which resides on the main timeline in Shell.swf In the documentation and tutorials I've seen a couple different methods, and I'm not sure I quite understand the difference, or at least the reason you would use one over the other...In the 1st method, you can just add the Loader object using the addChild() method:
Code:
var myLoader:Loader = new Loader(); var myURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ExternalFileA.swf"); myLoader.load(myURLRequest); Placeholder_mc.addChild(myLoader);
This will apparently add myLoader to the display list once it has completely loaded.The 2nd method, you supposedly can add the Loader.content; however, it appears you can only do this once the content has completed loading, so you need to incorporate an event handler with the contentLoaderInfo object:
Code:
var myLoader:Loader = new Loader(); var myURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ExternalFileA.swf"); myLoader.load(myURLRequest);
[code]....
What are the pros/cons of adding the entire Loader object, as opposed to the Loader.content and vice versa?
I'm creating a flash game with AS3 but I'm having some issues with sounds. Usually, when there is not much action around, sounds play just fine and all. But when it starts getting ugly with explosions everywhere and stuff, I start getting this every now and then[code]...
I would like for the website preloader to recognize the random image loader that I have on frame 8 of my siteI have a basic preloader on frames 1 and 2(frame 1)
We are trying to automate our flex application. After adding automation libraries to our project we get the following exception:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at mx.automation::AutomationManager$/addDelegates() at mx.automation::AutomationManager$/addDelegates() at mx.automation::AutomationManager$/addDelegates() at mx.automation::AutomationManager$/addDelegates() .....
We are using Flex 3.4 and maven2 to build the application. Flex-testing?
Ie the preloader and steps through a preloader animation filling the logo (ie loader)Now I have tried changing a few things but having problems tried loading into a container and a level
I have a xml image gallery and I want to add a simple progress bar component from flash cs5 to the thumbs when they 1st load up in the carousel.
I understand about the progress bar and how it works and I have tried all day to insert the correct code into my project but I just can't seem to get it right. I dont want to use buttons for the progress bar as demonstrated by Republic of Code, I would just like the progress bars to load when thumbs are loading.
I have included below the progress bar AS3 code from the site "republic of code" which I have been learning from. Also below is the code from my xml gallery.
progress bar AS3 code import fl.controls.ProgressBar; import fl.controls.Button;
i have created a preloader for my swf file. I want to simply add an image onto the stage whilst another swf is loading. My image is saved in a movieclip called image in the library. How would i add it to the stage and make it stay there whilst it is being loaded. I have tried manually moving it onto the stage but it only stays for 1 frame.

Is it possible to add the same Loader to many different DisplayObjectContainers?
I'm using a Loader instance to load an image which I would like to place in about 40 different Sprites. Using the addChild function the loader can only be added to one Sprite though. Is there any way around this or do I have to create 40 different loaders also?
Or is there a way to load an image straight into a Sprite without even using the Loader?
I'm having trouble with my code. I keep getting this error TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at Test_fla::MainTimeline/frame1() I believe it has something to do with the array, considering it works when I remove the array stuff. What I'm trying to do is to be able to move objects through an array with my gravitate() function in the Grav Class.
stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,onLoop, false, 0, true); for(var i:uint=0; i < numParticles; i++){ var p:Grav = new Grav(5, 0xff0000, Math.random()*250, Math.random()*250); addChild(p); particles.push(p); } function onLoop(evt:Event):void { //for(var i:uint=0; i < numParticles; i++){ //particles[i].gravitate(1,1); //}}
I have a loader which loads on a MouseEvent.Click. It uses this for multiple swfs Actionscript Code: myLoader.load(new URLRequest(event.target.name + ".swf")); How can I add a custom preloader to this?
I have a preloader.swf which loads in media_player.swf which is fine. thats all working I also have the preloader loading in a variable from the webpage using flashvars and thats also fine i have that outputting onto a text box so i can see it but what im trying to do is set the source of a uiloader inside the media_player.swf to the variable that im loading into the preloader.swf.
What's the most efficient way of putting a basic preloader and XML loader together in the same frame?
Like, what works the best in terms of order of operation? Or if used at the same time should the XML loader have the preloader in the Progress portion or at the on complete portion?
I am creating a photo gallery using the loader component, however some of the jpgs are around 240k so I want to add a custom preloader. The issue I am having trouble with is... how do I set up a preloader that I have made to activate when the loader component loads a new jpg via the myLoader.contentPath = "sample.jpg"???
I am using a sliding thumbnail gallery w/ a static main image behind.
Anyone have a tip for settingup a preloader for the loader? Never had much luck making preloader.
