ActionScript 3.0 :: Remove Or Redefine A Child Movieclip's Function

I've tried simply overwriting the function from the parent, to no avail - both of the listeners fire. I also tried removing the listener like this:

Overwriting the function didn't work either. It made a fuss about it
If not, I'll have to go into each movieclip and remove the hand scribed code. Which will be a pretty big deal as there's at least 50.

I have the following function to add movie clips to the stage...I assume it is the correct way to add movieclips to the stage becuase it works.

I'm doing a website in flash and I'm creating sprtite to put image in it (child) when we clic on a link. But when we clic on another link, the child have to be removed but it doesn't. It doesn't reach theirselves (the child), so it can't be removed.em?This is my code:

Does anyone know the actionscript 3.0 parameters in removing the child within a movieclip? This is my scenario:
1. I have two (2) languages which play on the main timeline. Each languages are movieclips.
2. I have a movieclip which has buttons. These buttons are added dynamically using "stage.addChild(main_menu)"
3. I have a go back button together with the main timeline. How can remove a child on a timeline? For example when I choose the language A: it will play through by a movieclip and the buttons will be added dynamically [the dynamically added buttons are inside this movieclip; also the AS3 is inside that movieclip]. I wanted to remove the added child when the go back button is pressed and return to certain frame on the main timeline. The go back button is not included in the said movieclip--it is within the same timeline of languages and I wanted the script to be on the main timeline.

I have added a listener function for mouse event

And defined the function

On the main timeline I have a movieclip called "sections". Within "sections" there are 2 movieclips (1 simple button called closeContent and a movieClip called content_aboutUs).I am trying to remove the button "closeContent" from the stage within the "content_aboutUs" movieclip.A following function is called within the "content_aboutUs" movieclip.

have made interactive quiz which have 12 movieclips each movieclip contains loop animation and sound in it(on Timeline), i export them as classes, clip1, clip2, clip3....etc, now i m doing when user reach on question 1, then clip1. comes on screen and playes that movieclip and after clickicking on right answer clip needs to remove from stage, but it is happening that clip is gone unvisible but is sound is till working

I am using the following code to generate a bullet (I have a bullet it the library linked Bullet):

upon the bullet.x getting to less that 50 it deletes the movieclip ok (other instances of the bullet are still onstage, which is what I want) but it gives the error:

Someone the other day provided me with this code to a remove a child from the main timeline from within a movieclip.
parent.removeChild(MovieClip(parent).mc1);
This works fine, but how can I write an if statement to test if its in the display list before removing it?
As I'm getting an error if I try to remove it once its already been removed.

I have an issue where removechild won't infact remove a child. I think its something to do with my dropTarget.parent issues. The concept of the code is that you drag a source onto a destination. When you drop the source onto the destination you will get a text field that says "Hello" or "Goodbye". The objective i want to achive is that once i drop a source onto the destination, removechild will remove any previouse textfields added. This is proving difficult.

I built a custom designed checkBox. The movieclip is in the libary and dragged onto the timeline of my .swf. I'm using CS4 & AS3. I'm using procedural AS3 instead of OO AS3.The checkbox movieclip has a child movieclip inside of it so I can apply a drop shadow filter to some of the graphics .When I put an eventlistener on the custom checkbox it works fine but when I try to reference the checkbox movieclip inside the eventlistener function, the event.target.name is referring to the child movieclip (just a graphic with a drop shadow filter).From my reading it looks like the function propogates down to the child movieclip but I don't want it to do that.How do I reference the parent movieclip? or
B. stop the eventlistener from propogating down to the child movieclip?
I tried using stopPropagation(); but it didn't stop the function event.target.name from trickling down to the child movieclip.Here's what AS3 looks like.The trace statement displays "step3_mc.cbEmail_mc.instance25"instead of what I need "step3_mc.cbEmail_mc"

i have a parent movieclip mcA and i want to add another movieclip mcB (child movieclip) inside mcA such that the extra part of mcB is hidden. The size of movieclip remains same as of mcA
For ex:-
mcA = 300x300
mcB = 400x400
then only 300x300 of mcB movieclip is visible and rest of the part is hidden.

i am using claudio's scrollbar to scroll an rss feed (compiled into an XML file). i have a variable h2 which is equal to the height of a box within the movie clip containing the scrolling content. the height of the box is equal to the maxscroll of the externally loading XML file. the box *does* resize properly (tested with trace), but only after the variable h2 is already defined... so variable contains the original size of the box and not the new size. how can i get the variable to update so that the entire external file can be seen with the scroller?

I would like to redefine the information within moveHighlight once I go to another frame, and was wondering how to do this with as3. I want to leave all the if statements alone, I just need to change the variables. This code needs to be really basic, so I can't use classes or anything like that.
