ActionScript 3.0 :: Socket.Close Does Not Work In Windows Browsers?
Nov 11, 2009
I have an FTP program written that uploads ByteArrays through sockets. It works great on my Mac! I open a command connection, then a data connection, send the ByteArray and then use socket.close() on my data connection. This causes the server to disconnect me and sends the 226:transfer succeeded message back through my command connection. The problem is that in IE8, FF 3.5, and Safari 4 on Windows the socket.close() func does not make the server close the connection. The fact that it works in all of my Mac browsers, and the IDE, but not in Windows browsers makes me think that it's something to do with the Flash Player.
My FP version check data:
MAC 10,0,32,18
WIN 10,0,32,18

I inherited a flash website about a year ago.. not sure what version it was originally done in. I've made changes on the model last year using CS3 Flash Action script 2, but don't remember the flash version when published. The audio in question is the music that plays in the background when you get on the website:
[URL]
When I changed the image of the model this last week using CS4, I published it as Flash8 actionscript 2... now, the music plays on Mac Safari and Mac Firefox, but not on the Windows versions of IE or Firefox..
this is the code called sound control
onClipEvent(load)
{
_root.soundstatus="on";
_root.mySound = new Sound(_level0);
[Code]....
then there's the stop() that's used when the music is toggled off..
I've tried updating the flash player in Windows to the latest release, and I even tried republishing as flash 10, just not sure where to troubleshoot this..

I have looked around for this and haven't found a way that clearly explains how to do this. More often than not the button will close the browser window in one but not another browser.Is the a simple way of closing a browser window in all types of browser ( Or mainly Firefox, IE and safari on both Mac and PC ) with actionscript?

I'm trying to create a simple swf file containing an m4v file along with default player controls. I want to add this to a Web page. I've successfully generated such a file, and using the HTML generated by the publish option, I've gotten it to play on IE, FF, Chrome, and Opera under Windows 7. When I try to open the same Web page from the same location on my Mac, however, I see the player controls with an green animation that indicates loading. The movie itself never loads. I've tried this under Safari, Chrome, and Firefox on Mac, all with the same result. I've also had friends try this on other Macs, with the same result. Is there some difference in how Windows and OS X deal with SWF files that I need to account for?

I use Actionscript 3 TCP sockets to connect with Javascript websockets. Sending data is primarily from the websocket to the AS socket.On Mac OS X, no problem. On Windows however, successive TCP messages seem to queue up somewhere.
This causes the ProgressEvent.SOCKET_DATA event to fire with quite a large time interval, which creates noticeable lag.I used Wireshark to monitor the TCP packets on both OS X and Windows. The difference I see is that on OS X each message comes in it's own packet, while on Windows successive messages are 'concatenated' into one packet.Is this just the way the socket is implemented, or is there any way I can improve on this?
EDIT 1: I found this post on actionscript.org which outlines the same problem
EDIT 2: I found a way to go around the problem. I pad every message with dummy text to increase the frame size. This causes the TCP stack to send every message in it's own frame instead if queuing them. This works, even though it's really, really ugly...
This is the code in the SOCKET_DATA event.
while(this.socket.bytesAvailable) {
var byte:uint = this.socket.readUnsignedByte();
if(byte == 0x00) {
trace("Start byte found. - " + new Date().time);
[code]....

I have a parent window that has a flash movie embedded in it. When a certain button is clicked inside the flash movie, it calls a a pop up javascript function to pop up a window with another flash movie embedded in it. This flash movie (the one embedded in the pop up window) has a button that I need to close the pop up and refresh the parent window when clicked. (i.e., when the user clicks the button, the pop up closes and the main parent window goes to a different URL).
I used javascripting inside flash to do so, it works fine, however, I keep getting a warning message when using IE : ("The website you are viewing is trying to close the window, do you want to close this window?"). This message is not displayed in FireFox. I don't want this message to appear. I read about a lot of solutions around this, however, they only work when I test them in regular html pages, but not when used in a button inside a flash movie.

When I open my .swf file with Flash, everything works great, but when I try to open it in a browser, it becomes blank, like there was not text to scroll, even though the text is displayed just fine. Even more odd is it that sometimes it works in IE if I open it locally, but not if I open it from the net...Tried to search the internet for a solution, but it doesn't seem like a common problem, which I would think it would be.My .swf file, with the text appended The page online The panel I need to scroll is in the News section.

I have some code that gets fired on these mouse events:
button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, function(e:MouseEvent) { ...
button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, function(e:MouseEvent) { ...
button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, function(e:MouseEvent) { ...
They all work in all browsers, except for Chrome, where MOUSE_OVER and MOUSE_OUT trigger the events, but MOUSE_UP does not trigger the event. I also tried CLICK, same story.I would suspect that there is some sort of interfering layer or offset in the Chrome rendering, but then wouldn't the other mouse events not register as well?

I created 3 movieclips each are loaded externally.
videoHolder1.loadMovie(movie1.swf);
videoHolder2.loadMovie(movie2.swf);
videoHolder3.loadMovie(movie3.swf);
I have a play and a stop button. So when user clicks on the stop button all 3 movie will pause and play will resume the movie.
playBtn.onRelease = function(){
videoHolder1.play();
videoHolder2.play();[code]....
What happens is, the play and stop button works fine when running on the Flash Player. However, when I used IE to open the swf file, the movie and everything appears and working, just that the play and stop button won't work in IE or other browsers.

I am trying to debug a socket connection issue between flash in a web browser and flash in a client type program. The connection is closing properly in the web, so I would like to understand how the web side of things work. Right now I can load up a remote flash file in a web browser and that triggers a connection ESTABLISHED stat when viewing with netstats -fn. When I close the dialog which runs some javascript to remove the flash from the dom, the connection stats goes to TIME_WAIT. Does the act of removing the flash from the html DOM sever the flash connection which triggers a TIME_WAIT state? How does that process work?

I've benn trying to get a simple socket server test to work for days now and it seems I'm not getting very far.Basically I just want to send some data from flash to the php script and have it echo it out, or anything at all like that I've been working from this tutorial http[url]....I have this basic flash class which just sends a string to the server:
Code:
package{
import flash.net.XMLSocket
import flash.display.MovieClip[code]...
The server side php is the attached script (pretty much this http:[url]....So I keep the php running on my server then run the as class, what happens is after a while (presumably the 15 second script limit in as) I get this error:
Error #2044: Unhandled securityError:. text=Error #2048: Security sandbox violation: .../networking.swf cannot load data from website.com:9980.at base()

Have been having difficulty with this issue of getting a close button to work within a mc popup box (it is doing my head in !) Basically I have a Button on the stage that launches a popup mc. To close this popup, I have a 'x' for the user to click on to close this box. I don't want the box to become 'invisible' or for the whole box to close when clicked on (I have tried both but not what i am after). It is important for user to be able to relaunch this box by clicking on the button after closing previously.
It would be great if anyone would be able to view the fla atatched and explain what needs to be included, and perhaps upload a working verison.

I also have embedded MC that refer to this _root script. So my problem is that the swf loads but the script which is supposed to close a menu when one menu is opened does not work, they just all stay open when i click other menus.

trying to make the close button work on this homework project. This app scatters photos on the stage, randomly and at random angles. They are drag and droppable and the clicked photo comes to the fore. Each photo has a close button intended to remove the photo from the stage, this last is what won't work. I know its a common topic, but nothing I've tried has worked so far. onClickCloseBtn is the problem.
Code:
package

I'm having troubles testing a StageVideo file locally. The HTML file that contains the swf loads perfectly in Chrome & FireFox, but when I go to open it in Internet Explorer 9 nothing happens (it just shows a white screen).
I've added the permissions for the location to the 'Global Security Settings' tab of the Flash settings manager (on the Macromedia website). I've also checked in the IE9 settings to make sure that it allows GPU rendering.
why it might be blocked in IE9?

i have a movie called with:
Code:
_root.attachMovie("biography", "biography", _root.mylogo.getDepth()-1, {_x:Stage.width/2, _y:Stage.height/2});
and within each i have a close button with:
Code:
close_bt.onPress = function() {
unloadMovie(_root.biography);
};
but now i have a problem, im trying to use:
Code:
if (!_root.biography) {
_root.attachMovie("biography", "biography", _root.mylogo.getDepth()-1, {_x:Stage.width/2, _y:Stage.height/2});
}
to call the move again if there isnt already an instance of it but it only works the first time the movie was called, it wont work after i use the close button to unload the movie..
