ActionScript 3.0 :: Turning Selected Text Into A String?
Jan 27, 2009
I've got some dynamic text where certain lines will select (via setSelection) upon clicking.how to turn this selected text into a stored string I can then parse into usable sections.What methods could I use to get a selected text into a string?
I'm trying to create a series of scripts that will create some custom event listeners. I have three movie clips on my stage. One is a movieclip who's sole function is to hold array's and the event listeners. A second which moves around the screen. And a third that is motionless.
The problem is that the argument I want to test (which activates the custom event) is held within a string.
What I want to know is, how do you test to see if the string argument is true?
Is it something similar to this:
[Code]...
I think I'm going about this in the wrong manner, however this is the only way I can think of this working (since I need to be able to dynamically create these events)
I've used this site as a resource leading up to this, not particularly sure if I worded this correctly I have a class "Block" which is just a square (will be something else later on in the process) I want each block to have controls to add an additional block in either direction so I have another class BlockButtons which has my buttons for each direction.
And another class GlobalVar where I keep all my variables for funsies
I'm retrieving an unformatted String from a twitter feed. I want to be able to turn a text URL (http://blah.com/qwerty/) into a link but don't know how...is there a handy regular expression for this?
I found this code to turn strings into a movieClipInstanceName that exists within a known movieclip. Code: // CREATE THE STRING var newString:String = "movieClipInstanceName"; //CHANGE THE ALPHA OF THE MOVIECLIP TO 0 this[newString].alpha = 0;
However, when using this code for a movieclip within a known movieclip... Code: mc1.this[newString].alpha = 0; ...or... Code: this["mc1"].this[newString].alpha = 0; I get this error... 1084: Syntax error: expecting identifier before this.
Code: this["mc1." + newString].alpha = 0; ...throws this error... Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.
I'm trying to turn caching off so when I reload the text file, it always gets a fresh copy. I keep getting compiler errors however with the useCache line. I'm not accessing the properties correctly or something. When I take out that line it works fine but always fetches the cached file.
My code is:
loadDoctorVariables(); function loadDoctorVariables() { var requestJo:URLRequest = new URLRequest(" http://www.grxsolutions.com/gtslideshow3/"+doctorURL+".txt");
i have a dynamic text field which is filled by a list of attributes pulled from an external xml file... this is working fine... i would like to now turn each of these text attributes into a 'button', essentially giving them all event listeners but have no idea where to start for this...? can you turn text field data into interactive objects? or is there a better way to turn xml data into links?
I am trying to make a 2 languages flash website. I need to know if something similar to the following can be done: var selectedLanguage:String = "PT"; // PT= Portugus, EN = English, ES = Espaol
I just want to acquire the existing label from the currently selected item in a ComboBox. I populated it with a DataProvider with a list of strings and it will not allow me to get the currently selected label, especially if I input a new one, not included in the DataProvider
I have created a form consisting of several input text fields. My question is whether there's script to evaluate which text field is currently selected.
I have really no idea how to do this, but i have a textbox and a button.When this button is clicked, i want it to add "<b>" before the currently selected text in the textbox. How would i go by this?
Flex's text-editing controls (mx:TextField, mx:TextArea) offer functions for doing "stuff" with the selected text (selectionBeginIndex, selectionEndIndex, setSelection), but the text-displaying controls (mx:Label, mx:Text) don't seem to offer anything of the sort.After some tinkering, I've tried subclassing Label then writing functions which give access to the underlying TextField instance... But even then, setting the selection didn't work![code]So, is there any better way to access/change the text which is selected in mx:Label and mx:Text controls? Are there "better" controls to use?
Basically I'm trying to output the contents of an XML document into a dynamic text field (as loaded - not just its node values and content - the entire thing - into a variable called _root.log). The text field is set to show the variable value of _root.log.This is the actionscript...
PHP Code: var newProfileXML:XML= new XML("<contacts result='true'><contact name='John Doe'/><contact name='Jane Doe'/></contacts>");
I have a very general requirement that seemed very simple: Step 1: Load a new external JPEG image into a MC with a string var encoding a string caption in the URL link (VALUE="../fadeTest.swf?someTextVar=TestCaption") within the EMBED / OBJECT sections. I know how to do this and it semed to work fine. STEP2: When the JPEG is loaded I would like the substituted Text to Fade In over the JPEG. The JPEG should also fade in before the Text. The fade rate should be programmable.
I have a Question that is how to paste the selected or copied text on stage or text area in flash as3? I had copied text but don't have any idea about how to paste the text into text field.
I have a menu with many sub menus. I need to change the color of the selected button and then move on to the sub menu. My menu is horizontal and now it's not obvious the path that you follow.
Is there any way to disable a few columns for a particular row in flex datagrid?
I have a datagrid with about 10 or more columns, say for example a few column names are: Item Id, Item Name, Item Status and VerifiedState. Initially I want the column Verified State to be disabled.
Now When the value of the column, Item Status is Review Passed for a particular row, I want the column VerifiedState to be enabled and editable. Is that possible in Flex datagrid.
I have a combo box and I am using the 'selectedIndex' property to give it a default value (a value that is at the first(0) index). Setting this property in my ActionScript does select the value in the dropdown but it does not add the selected value to the combo box's text area. How do you do this? I make has no affect on the text area.
Here is a sample of my code. The combo box list is populated fine. And the value is selected IN THE LIST. However, once you select a value in the list the combo box's list closes and nothing resides in the combo box's text field.
comboBoxData.insert(0, {data:1, label:"Show me something specific"}); for (i in animations) { comboBoxData.push({data: i.uri ,label: "somevalue"});
I want to show a PDF in browser, from which user can select text, showing pdf is very easy i have done this using "pdfviewer" control, now i want to get the selected text which the user selects in the PDF, is there any way to achieve this?
Edit: If there is a flash/ flex solution at the client end that will as well, does anyone know about it, i tried one API, but that dint seem to work
On the website I'm currently working on:I'm running into a problem with my flash pages. If you click on About Us from the menu, on every computer but mine the About Us header at the end of the animation shows up as regular text and not the style I used.Here is a screen shot of what it is suppose to look like:on why this would happen? I thought it may be because the font wasn't installed throughout, but it's the same font as "embrace hope' which comes up fine.
If i open .as file (or something else) in Notepad++ and select any variable or some other text, it will highlight all of the occurences of this variable in text of this opened document. And you can quickly see where this variable have assignemnts and so on. But in Flash CS3 i can only use standard Find dialog to search throug opened .as file and it finds only one occurence, then you hit "Find Next" and you've got another. Not so comfortable. So does that feature exist in Flash CS IDE, or something similar? (i can't find that)
I tried assigning it with CSS (text-selected-color) and failed, i tried putting <mx:SetProperty target="{textField}" name="textColor" value="0x999999" /> in my skin class in all "selected" states but it worked only when run (one of the buttons starts as selected).. as soon as i ran my mouse over it or clicked another button it reverted back to the original color.
I'm using Flashbuilder 4. I have a Spark TextInput control, and I'm implementing a "Copy" button that will copy the selected text only from within this control to the clipboard (pretty much like the RMB Copy does).
I am having trouble trying to use actionscript to load different files when different values are changed. I am currently using a tilelist and they have different values so the code is something like this: (the title is just there, non-related)
if (startTileList.selectedItem.value == 1) { //textFile1 load here[code].........
So I want different text files to be loaded when different value is selected but I cannot seem to get it working.
