ActionScript 3.0 :: Call The Xml Nodes In A Different Way Than Their Name?
Jul 21, 2011
I am trying to use an external XML file in flash and it loads great but the thing is it's formated like that:[code]notice the lines between the words? Well it cannot be read by flash, I get an error. If I use allitems(one word) instead of all-items(so the "-" line) is gone it works but editing it is not an option.So this does not work:var allItems:String = xml.all-items.first-item.text();Are there any other solutions? maybe call the xml nodes in a different way than their name?

I develop a piece of code that brings me to an xml, all Nodes i use this code:
for(var i=0; i< menu_xml.childNodes.length; i++){
corrent_node = menu_xml.childNodes[i].length;corrent_item.action = corrent_node.attributes.action;corrent_item.variables = corrent_node.attributes.variables;corrent_item.name.text = corrent_node.attributes.name;
[code]....
What I need is for each of the nodes highlighted in green to return the child Nodes. Example: when I move the mouse over the menu Indoor lighting, the results should be: Indoorlighting | LED 10W> 3W LED> LED 6W

For those unfamiliar with tree structures, tree structures are usually dynamic lists where every node has a pointer to two other nodes. They are arranged so it makes for faster searching and stuff and are very useful in programming languages that offer direct access to heap memory. Although I don't know if there would be benefits of making tree structures in AS would be of any help but I decided to have a go at it anyway. Since there are no pointers in flash I tried to just replace pointers to nodes with nodes themselves. Such things usually work in java I think because the language just automatically makes pointers for variables.

i have some actionscript that makes a
ExternalInterface.call('someFunction');
call.is it possible to reference the html object that made the call to someFunction directly using the ExternalInterface.call call?
Assume that the object that makes the call also has some Callbacks (via ExternalInterface.addCallback) that are accessible via javascript.
Currently:
Actionscript source
ExternalInterface.call("someFunction");
ExternalInterface.addCallback("someCallback",someASfunction);

I'm trying to use ExternalInterface.Call to call a JavaScript function to launch a lightbox window. So far I have this:
AS3:
flash.external.ExternalInterface.call("launchLB", "" + aUrl + "");
JavaScript:
function launchLB(url) {
alert(url);
[Code]....
I get the alert but I can't get the lightbox window to display. When my as code makes the ExternalInterface call I get what looks like a page refresh and a blank browser window.

I'm having trouble simulating a click call to a button(displayObject) thats generated via an API call( youtube as3 API). I have not seen any mention of security reasons as to why I can not simulate a click as long as something is registered with a click handler. Basically I checked to make sure the button made is listening to a mouse click event with:
trace(generatedButton.hasEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK)) which returns true
I proceed to than call this:
generatedButton.dispatchEvent( new MouseEvent(MouseEvent.CLICK, true) );
And nothing happens yet if I physically click the button it works. Is there some security measure that prevents something from being fake clicked unless its origin is strictly from the system mouse?
I even set a timeout call on the click function and moved my cursor over the button and let it fire in case it was an issue of the mouse having to over the object but still nothing. I am kind of stumped at this point.

I have an enterFrame action that I use on a graphic:
[Code]....
Because I want to use the above code more than a few times, I tried to make it a function.
[Code]....
But for some reason the function call does not work when I call it via an action on a graphic where initially the code worked when it was explicitly written and not called as a function.
Code:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
fadeOut();
}

why this is not working.I have an application with a new class I just created. The class loads, but will not call it's own internal function.
package com.parkerandkent.components.classic.photogallery {
import caurina.transitions.Tweener;
import flash.display.MovieClip;[code]....
"Test 2" will not fire here.And I get this error message:
CallTag.as , Line 10 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method init.

I need to get a javascript var in my Flash application. I like to be able to just set a variable in the javascript (client constraints) rather than define a function.
Can this be done? I am trying to use the ExternalInterface.call()
AS:
ExternalInterface.call("function(){return window.someVar}", null);
JS:
var someVar = "Test";
This does not work and I suspect it is because the ExternalInterface.call() does not like the anonymous function.

I have a function defined in JavaScript like so:
function fadeBack() {
alert("fadeBack called");
};
I call that function from my Flash file like so:
import flash.external.*;
flash.external.ExternalInterface.call("fadeBack");
This works in both Safari and Chrome, but for some reason Firefox won't ever call the function. Still, I can't figure this out. How can I fix it?

We have been given some code that does a URLRequest call which is really slow to respond, so I was looking to make it pull the data from the page, as it is already on the page.[code]I have tried to replace it with this (actionscript is definitely not my forte):[code]I am using addCallBack as that is what the editor suggested via autocomplete, unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. Unfortunately I cannot go back to the developer at this time.The error message is:Call to a possibly undefined method addCallback through a reference with static type flash.external:ExternalInterface

I couldn't find anything to directly answer my question online, so I thought I'd post here.
I have a CSS file, and an XML file. Both are loading fine, but the flash isn't applying the CSS to the XML nodes I assign.
ActionScript:
Code:
district1_BTN.onRelease = function() {
descText.text = Quotations.firstChild.childNodes[0].childNodes[0].firstChild;
for(i=0; i<Quotations.firstChild.childNodes[0].childNodes[1].childNodes.length; i++)

I'm trying to work with XML in flash here and ran into an issue. I need to collect all the nodes in an XMLList that contains a certain childnode with a certain value. For example, from the XML below I just want to get the ''product'' nodes that have 1 as a value for ''amount'', i.e product 3 and 5.
And it's not a typo for product 3... ;(
<xml>
<product>
<title>Product 1</title>
<amount>4</amount>

I have an xml schema and recently got some actionscript working to parse it. The problem is, the actionscript is parsing some of the nodes, but missing some others, specifically the "inner" ones. Attached is the xml structure, and a simple Fla that loads the xml and attempts to trace all the nodes. You will notice, when you run it, it only traces the "ContactDetail" node once, and so misses the data.

I have 30 values coming from an xml file, and I need to programatically find out which of them is the lowest, then I need also to find out exactly where it is located, so I can get the value that is located next. What I mean is:
Let's suppose that on the following xml, Cat2 is the lowest value, I need not only to print Cat2, but also Dog1. So, I will need to find out how to get Dog1 knowing that Cat2 is the lowest value.

I'm working with XML in AS3. I'm loading in some xml that has dates in a format like: 2011-1-12-10-00-a
I am converting those to actual Flash Date so I can compare them and use the methods of the Date class, etc. I would prefer to convert them once and then store them back in the XML node they came from.Is it possible to store complex values like date or what have you in an XML?

A web service return to my flex3 client this custom exception:
<SOAP-ENV:Fault xmlns:ro="urn:Gov2gLibrary" xmlns:SOAP-ENV="[URL]" xmlns:xsd="[URL]" xmlns:xsi="[URL]" xmlns:HNS="[URL]" xmlns:SOAP-ENC="[URL]" xmlns:v1="[URL]">
<faultcode>E2gError</faultcode>
<faultstring>abc</faultstring>
<detail><HNS:ROException>
[Code] .....
This is obviously a part of the FaultEvent object I get when the remote call fail, so I'm trying to access "T2gMsg" subnode values like this:
protected function onFaultEvent(e:FaultEvent):void {
var obj:Object = e.fault;
var err:XMLList = obj.element.detail.children()[0].children();
// now I have in err the "Messages" list, subnode of ROException,
// so I should cycle to read one message at time:
for each (var x:XML in err.children()) {
//?
}
How to read ID, Severity etc values. I think something like "x.ID" should work but it's not, while x.child("ID") or x.elements("ID") return null. What can I do?
