ActionScript 3.0 :: Can't Get Nested Dictionaries?

I'm getting closer.I need (I think) to use nested dictionaries because I need to easily reference the parent and child objects in case the user changes something, it needs to rewrite the entry associated with that object.I highlighted the code that I am having problems with. Ultimately I need to know what is in the array nested inside of 2 dictionaries.
Code:

I am using a Dictionary where the keys are Number objects, but I run into unexpected problems if the keys are large integers.
Here is some example code that inserts two key-value pairs in a Dictionary, one with a small key and one with a large one:
var dictionary:Dictionary = new Dictionary(); var smallNumberKey:Number = 1; dictionary[smallNumberKey] = "some value";

None of the keys seems to be stored as a Number. Why is that? The first one is stored as an int, which can be converted to a Number. The second one however seems to be stored as a String, which makes no sense to me. What is going on here?
As the title says, i would like to have an object which is nested beneath another objects depth set higher than that of one the is NOT nested. Is this possible if so how, may be real easy and im just over-looking it but
I am a novice in ActionScript 3.0. I am trying to use the sample code from AS 3.0 tutorial but it return me an error "Packages cannot be nested". How can I fix it? Here's the sample code: fla file format.
i have a textbox (totaltxt) within a movieclip (link_mc) which is on frame1, and i am trying to access the contents of totaltxt and put it in another textbox called totalround1 in frame2...e.g. if totaltxt = 100 then totalround1 should equal 100 aswellthis is my failed attempt:PHP Code:totalround1.text = Number(link_mc.totaltxt.text);
I'm not sure if this problem's caused by a change made in CS5 or if I'm just doing something wrong (havn't used flash in a while), but I've run into a problem where; I've created a second animated layer (classic tween) inside the timeline of another movie clip. The problem is, when I add a key frame in the timeline of the parent movie clip, it resets the timeline inside it (as in, it goes back to the begining).
I have a clip on my main timeline, inside of which is another clip. I have animated the main clip (just 10 frames, keyframes at 1 and 10, with a motion tween). Then I open it, and "animate" the nested clip on its own timeline. I say animate in quotes because it's really just 5 keyframes with no tweens as I've been told that tweens in nested clips make a mess. I know nested animatetions don't show by scrubbing the timeline, but it won't show when Testing the movie, or even after publishing it as a .swf. The nested clip does play on its own timeline from within the clip, but not outside it.
I am "old style" guy who still use Flash authoring environment as I believe working with graphics this way is easier than scripting all the things in document class..So, I have created in Flash authoring a movieClip with a graphics nested in it. Actually, this graphic is composed of two other nested graphics:

I want to create a pair of nested mcs with both mcs draggable I want to be able to drag mc1 around the stage and have mc2 move with it. I also want to have mc2 draggable within mc1. I have mc2 inside mc1.I can set event listeners on mc1 successfully but when I add them to mc2 they don't workI tried mc2.addEventListener, mc1.mc2.addEventListener. Neither work. I also tried to have them not nested and assign mc2's .x and .y to mc1's. Here mc2 snaps to mc1 on MOUSE_DOWN but doesn't stay with it when mc1 is dragged.
I was able to come up with a menu bar to display on my non-flash website, and left linking to absolute last because I assumed it would be the "easy" part.What I have is a menu bar where each item (about, home etc) is a mc, and some of those mcs have animated sub menus within them (mcs as well).My problem is that when any item in a sub menu is clicked, instead of redirecting to their own link, flash it redirects to the link of the mc that contains the submenu.I'm attaching a link to the file so you guys can understand what I'm talking about.The items with submenus are "services" and "markets".
How exactly does this work? If I set the width of a movieclip which is nested inside another movieclip, it never works how I think it will. Could someone explain to me the way this works?I'm trying to load images into movieclips that have a border, and the only thing holding me up is that resizing the nested clip, or the clip it's nested in, is really hit-or-miss as far as predictable results.
I am creating a drop down menu and having problems adding problems to the nested MCs. I have all the actions on the root timeline and I have a one Main_MC which holds several Sub_MC's.I have the Main MC animated fine but I can't find how to control the Sub-MC's.Here is a sample of my code and I have tried _root. and this. and show below but I can't get it to work.

I have a nested movieclip that I need to control.I have searched the net and to this point I have been able to make it gotoAndStop at frame 1 and play().I can't make it stop.I understand that actionscript can be attached to the movieclip instance or placed on the root timeline.what I would like is direction to websites and or tutorials that might teach me how to control a nested movieclip.
I've never had to deal with a mc inside of an mc this way before... Basically they're already on the stage and creating them dynamically would require recreating everything.... Not worth it.

I'm trying to build a styled, rounded button movieclip that I can reuse/resize. So inside a movieclip, I have two layers:
Layer 1: A border, which is a shape - a rounded rectangle (or actually the stroke of a rounded-rect).
Layer 2: A nested movieclip which contains a shape for the face of the button. I have added filters to this nested movieclip to give it a beveled-type look - typical rounded button stuff.
So, I've tried applying scale-9 to the parent movieclip: in this case the border scales fine, but the face (with the filters) does not. So, then I tried applying scale-9 to both the parent and the nested face movieclip,I want to be able have the button self contained as a clip which I can pull from the library, drop on the stage, and scale without distortion - and so far, as mentioned,I can't figure out how the get the nested face, the one with the filters applied, to scale appropriately.
Currently I am reading in dynamic images from a xml file which loads the files names into a array. From there I load a empty movie clip from the library onto the stage on layer 20. There I load one of the images into the movie clip. I have gotten it to work where on event of click of a particular button the movie will load another image on the same layer.
My issue currently now is when i load two images into the MC at once. Both images gets loaded in but I find that they are scaeled and out of proportion. But when it loads them individually it is fine. Way I have manage to load the two images at once is by having a empty MC but nested in it are two other MC placed in the right position at the right dimension for the images to load into.I know that the images are being called and I know that images when imported in by themselves are the right dimensions. I know that the images loading in are at the right x,y position on the top corner left hand side. What I do not know is why the scaling and distortion.
I created a button in one movie. I nested a second movie that is the same size as the first movie. In the second movie I can successfully hide an object in the first movie with an object in the second movie. However, I can't prevent a button in the first movie from being shown in the second movie.
Basically I have a Sprite that contains a Shape. I'd like that Shape to trigger the listener I've attached to it however, Flash just thinks the container Sprite is being clicked every time.
