I'm using the following code to try and change the font size of a textfield dynamically using a varaible but I can't get size to use the variable as a value however all the other variables I combine with the string works as intended just not size ....

I've successfully loaded my xml and created three arrays to hold the news article date, title and text, using the following code:

I am trying to combine bold and regular text in a textfield but how do I embed an font family and not just a single style of a font?See example of how I embedded a font, you can only choose one style: "regular", "bold", "italic" or "bold italic" at once:However, when you try to embed the text (via the IDE settings or actionscript) how do you set the font to be the entire family?

I have a variable called AICC_Student_ID, which is talking to an LMS to pull in a student's unique ID (usually the same as their NTID). I need to take that JS variable value, and slap it into a String for treatment.I looked at the work it would take to use SWFObject, and since this little swf is going onto literally thousands of pages, manually hacking each and every one is just not worth it.

I have an embedded image and the class name to be userd in source tag is a combination of 2 variables, how to do this, below is an iadea of what i am trying to do:
[Embed (source="assets/image11_a.jpg")] public static const 11_a:Class;
var first_part:String="11";
var second_part:String="a";
and in mxml
<s:Image width="100" height="100" source="{first_part+second_part}"/>
above is just a small simplified example of what i am trying to do, actually the variables are getting populated from list.Basically i want to combine variable names to form the embedded image class name to be used in source of spark image.

I have an HTML button that I need to dynamically assign to an AS3 variable when clicked (in order to load an .mp3). I am using externalInterface.call to collect javascript variables - I am just unsure how to change these dynamically when a button is clicked.

Basically, there is a Flash movie embedded in the HTML TextFiled. The code is is as follows:

<p>Is there any way to make the space between embedded Flash movie above and this text more narrow ???</p>
In case there is less line breaks (<br />) the text in the last paragraph is shown truncated from the beginnng (so it's like "ny way to make the space..."). Is this a bug in Flash Player or is there any way to render text below embered swf better?

I haven't worked with HTML TextFields much, and was wondering if this is even possible. I am working on an events calendar, which when loaded displays a list of the current month's event titles in an HTML TextField. I would like to have these titles be links that when clicked on would call an ActionScript line that would setFocus on the associated date TextField.

I have three objects on the stage, each of them holds different value. Then there is a text field. If, lets say one object is clicked textfield displays value of the object, if more objects are clicked on textfield displays the values of all objects counted together (I think you kind of know where I am coming from..
Now, after I have clicked on the objects I wanted, I would like the value of textfield to be passed to..possibly html form..Im not sure whether this can be done from the swf file, so was thinking that probably you can create a button that send the value somewhere, only dont know where and how..

I'm attempting to load HTML from the Shopify blog API into a TextField in Flash. The problem is that Shopify doesn't add width and height attributes to images that are in the blog posts. When I load these into Flash, the width and height of the image is ignored and the height of the TextField is incorrectl, which screws up my scrollbar among other things.
Is there any way to read the width and height of the images as they are loaded? I could possibly do this with PHP before it gets to Flash, but I'm not sure how.

I am trying to avoid having to unescape URL encoded XML nodes by using a CData node element. It is a hassle to URL encode the html to put into the XML which is then read into Flash.This is what I have so far:

I need to be able to assign html/css-formatted text to a textfield within a movieclip and then be able to alpha that movieclip and have the html enabled textfield alpha with it.currently i have:1. My textfield within my movieclip with html enabled (property inspector), the font set to Arial* (the font symbol linkage from my library) and NOT embedded2. Font symbols for Arial and Arial Bold with linkage (exported to first frame)3. seperate dynamic text fields off stage, one with arial embedded and one with arial bold embedded (they are set to the font symbol in the library).I was briefly able to get it working by embedding the font on the textfield within the movieclip, but then curiosity go the better of me as I wanted to see what made it work and deleted the separate text fields (offstage ones) and tested the movie (which seemd to make the text field unable to have my css formatting (using Arial AND Arial Bold in same textfield).

I have pre-formatted HTML in a textfile. Let me know if any of this might already be an error-source- I am currently too tired to try out alternatives: The textfile looks something like this:

It's saved as a ".txt"-file... I didn't think that would really make a difference? What I want to do is load the file and dump it directly to an HTML-enabled textfield, using something like

in the function connected to the "onLoad".
If I use "LoadVars" as a handler to load the file, it gives me the raw data, something like "%3Cp%3E%3Cimg%20src=%27biathlon%27%20vspace%3D%27 2%27..." (you get the idea)... If I use an XML handler, it only gives me the first entry when I use "this" to send the file's content to the htmlText-field... probably because each entry in the file is enclosed by "<p>"-tags and the XML-handler considers the file to be over once the first closing "</p>" occurs?
What would need to be added to the file to make it load it all? Or what would I need to change about the function to make sure it sends the whole content of the file? When I use "trace" on the "this" that is loaded, it actually *does* give back only what it also sends to the textfield, even though the text-file contains several rows of that stuff.

I simply want to do is display a variable via a Textfield. This was easily done in AS2 by making a var; "var1", then making a textfield with a var; "var2", and having code that var2 = var1...
But of course this can't be done now.. =(
I have a found a tutorial where you create a textfield version fot he variable.. this being the coding..
ActionScript Code:

But from my experience of AS in the past (AS2) Any Textfield which utilises "text here" is not possible to show coding such as
ActionScript Code:
myText = myText+=1;
Which is all I want to do. I want a variable. Editable with easy, simple coding such as the one just above. Which is displayed in a textfield. Which will constantly update it's display of the variable as the variable changes.
Just like what was easily done in AS2...
I have tried to find out tutorials etc, after finding out about the one above, I foudn one which was meant to be able to update the textfield. But ti utilised event lsiteners, of which I know nothign about, and the tutorials I've found didn't ..tutorial very well.. didn't even say what was with all the "package" stuff..

I've seen many times the following procedure to assign a variable name to a text field:
- We create a generic movieclip which contains a dynamic text field called "tittle" (for example)
- We add 4 instances of this movieclip to frame 1 in our main time line.
- We give them a different name (testMC1, testMC2, testMC3 and testMC4)
- We also add this little AS into frame 1:
testMC1.tittle = "Hello";
testMC2.tittle = "How";
testMC3.tittle = "are";
testMC4.tittle = "you";
If we run the fla we'll have the 4 movieclips on screen "Hello How are you". So far, it's ok, no problem and everything's understood. However I'm trying to implement a variation for this method which I need to use, but I'm not succeeding. I'd like to assign the variable values from a plain text file instead.
Hence, I create a plain text file called "Exampletext.txt". Inside this file I put the following variable values:
&variable1=Hello
&variable2=How
&variable3=are
&variable4=you
I add this piece of AS lo load the variables from the text file:
this.loadVariables ("Exampletext.txt");
And finally, I modify this bit too:
testMC1.tittle = variable1;
testMC2.tittle = variable2;
testMC3.tittle = variable3;
testMC4.tittle = variable4;
And well, it does not work at all!
