ActionScript 3.0 :: Embed Characters Into A Dynamic Textfield For Languages In Flash?
Mar 9, 2012I know that you can embed characters into a dynamic textfield for languages in Flash. But is there a way to do that dynamically?

in action script 3.0.
var tf:TextFormat = new TextFormat();

tf.align = "left";

I embedded the "Verdana" font in ma fla named "Verdana". But my issue is the text filed is not showing the special characters. How can I embed in codes, I don't use the text filed from the component library. Everything was created only through action script 3.0 code.
How can I embed some characters one time, and have them embedded in all my dynamic textfields?

View 2 Replieshow to output characters from foreign languages in Flex and ActionScript.
To start, I'm just trying to output Cyrillic in a text control, but its just not working.
Ive tried BOM (Byte Order Marks) indicating UTF-8 in the XML file containing the text. I also specified "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>" in that file, and also in the actual MXML file. The actual text control is in a seperate AS3 file without a BOM, but I'm compiling everything with -actionscript-file-encoding="UTF-8".
The original cyrillic text came from an html file with a BOM indicating utf-8. I can paste that text into any html file with the same BOM and it displays correctly; take out the BOM and its garbage, so all that is needed is the correct Byte Order Mark at the start of the html file.
Just wondering if anyone knew a simple way of first counting the amount of characters in a single line dynamic textbox with AS?
View 2 RepliesIf number of characters in dynamic textfield exceeds 92, find the last word before that limit and put three dots(...) at the end
so, lets say this is the text, and there are 96 characters (I havent been counting but lets imagine it)

i've tried a lot of things... but i just cant embed this text wich i load through php:<TEXTFORMAT LEADING="2"><P ALIGN="LEFT"><FONT FACE="_sans" SIZE="12" COLOR="#000000"LETTERSPACING="0" KERNING="0">Plaats uw tekst hier</FONT></P></TEXTFORMAT>i tried embedding italics, bold and regular in different textfields outside the work area... i thought that should do it... but it doesnt
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to embed fonts at runtime in actionscript and it somewhat works. I can embed fonts by either using the embed tag or by loading a font library asset with a linkage name and use it with a new TextField. However, a textfield that exists on a movie clip already does not have the embedded font and is missing characters.
A quick example in code (textInstance exists on the movieclip):
var embeddedFonts = Font.enumerateFonts(); //Shows embedded font
var textFormat:TextFormat = textInstance.getTextFormat();
textInstance.text = "Don't be lazy"; //missing characters

I want to embed the font at runtime and I'm loading multiple SWFs and I don't want to embed the font in each SWF.
I made a page with a dynamic textfield which gets its text from an xml file.The text is italian, so contains characters as. None of these are recognised if I test my page, instead of these letters I see blank spaces. -I tried with embed, include special characters autofill, but that didn't do anything. -I read an article on this site about embedding international characters which says to put System.useCodePage=true; I did so, but got an error message. Does anybody know how to solve this problem?
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to embed a handful of European language characters into a little flash news ticker (Swedish, Norwegian and some others). I'm embedding my swf file in the html and passing a FlashVars variable This is the text that the ticker displays. For some reason the swf doesn't render the character when I put a foreign character such as in the HTML. I have embedded all these fonts in the dynamic text box in my .fla
Attached is the .fla and .html file where you can input the text for the swf to display. Please have a look for me! (attached zip at bottom of post)

I have an input text TextField in my movieclip instance but the text field just won't accept all my characters. I can enter for example character 'e', but pressing for example key 'p' won't work. Movie clip and it's TextField child is created in flash editor but I am creating an instance of this MC in my AS3 document class.If I set keyboard event handler, it catches all the keyboard events, but the are just not shown in InputText field? I am using default Arial and Helvetica fonts.
View 1 RepliesI added a SWC with movieclip assets to my flash builder project. I can access all movieclips with dot syntax but when I try to access my textfields it throws an error saying it is cannot access a property or method of a null object reference
Here is my code:
// gameMenuLevels is a main asset.
this.object = new gameMenuLevels();
This all works fine, I can go two levels deep:
var levelString:String = "level" + Utils.zeroPad(i + 1, 3);
var level:MovieClip = this.object[levelString] as MovieClip;
var bronze:MovieClip = level.bronze as MovieClip;
But when I try to get my textfield:
(bronze.getChildByName("levelNumber") as TextField)
I have created a dynamic text box which is used to put the length of a sound clip (which is worked out using AS2).
I want to use a font which isn't standard - VAGRounded, so I need to embed the characters.
If I select Family : VAGRounded and Style : thin then all is well. Ditto if I pick style:light but if I pick Style:bold or Style:black then the nothing displays
In my windows font folder all 4 appear to exist.
I notice that exactly the same appears to happen with the times font too (except some of the family options are different)
When I open the font-mapping box it tells me that there aer some fonts that I can't use but there is not list of what they are.

I have to embed VAGRounded bold. I can't seem to get it to work reliably. I have created 4 dynamic text boxes, one for each of the 4 styles and embedded the characters into each one for the 4 versions of the font. I then wrote some text directly into the boxes on the stage.
I created a 5th dynamic box and called it "test". I set the family to VAG ROunded, style:bold (ie just like one of the ones above). I then embedded the characters into it.
I added this dead simple as2
Code:
stop();
test.text="hello"
THis 5th text box looks NOTHING like the bold one from above, as you can see in the attached image.
I'm using swfobject to embed my flash. I've created a simple textfield using FlexBuilder. It's an AS3 project, which extends Sprite. I've set its width to be 640 and height to 450. Then, in the swfobject parameters of the page, I've also set 640 x 450. I've made the background nice and red and ugly so you can see it. [URL]. It seems to be the right dimensions.
But I've got a textfield which is supposed to be almost the same size and height. This runs fine in FlexBuilder (is the right size) but is all messed up once I add swfobject Can anyone see what is happening? I just looked at it and it looks ok. But then I refreshed the page and the textfield is postage-stamp size (again -- this is the original behavior I saw.) It's now looking OK in firefox but not in IE8. Flash is supposed to look the same in all browsers?
AS3 code:
package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.text.TextField;
import flash.text.TextFormat;
import flash.text.Font;

I am trying to embed a font in my actionsrcipt and the characters don't display at all when the embedFont = true. If it is set to false it displays the characters. I really need this to work because I want to maintain consistency with the font used through out the site.
The problem is that its not a common device font. The TextField is set up in another class I created and the the text formating is applied when the for loop runs in the initialization of the class I'm working in. I've tried everything I can think of and it just will not embed the font and display it.

I have the following code:
var tf:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
tf.font = "arial";
aRButton.textField.antiAliasType = "advanced";
aRButton.setStyle("textFormat", tf);
aRButton.setStyle("embedFonts", true);
When i run this i get antialias on my radiobutton but the Swedish characters å, ä and ö disappears. Is there a way to manually embed these characters?
I'm developing an app in Flash AS3 for a target audience in Europe and America. So now I need to embed the characters for the photo caption text field. There are "Basic Latin", "Latin Extended A", "Latin Extended B", "Latin Extended Add'l" and other sets available.
Are there some informations on which characters are really necessary or do I need to embed all sets? (There is an option to pick just some characters of them)
I've created dynamic textfield and textformat, I also embedded the fonts but, special characters(like č,ģ,ļ,ķ,ņ) won't show up, how to embed them? In library I have my specific font with linkage name myFont. Here's the code :
[Code]....
From Flash UI I would go to dynamic text properties -> embed fonts and then manually enter desired special characters. But how to do it with code? Seriously I searched a lot and can't find the answer, surely there must be a way how to do it properly with actionscript.
Is there a script similar to the image below that lets the user press a copy button to copy text to their clipboards (instead of right-clicking to copy)? Here's the URL where I got that image: [URL]. Where I can find a script to do implement that functionality?
View 2 RepliesMaking a piano/keyboard application and trying to figure out the best way to set this up .I plan on having a directory of sounds for each 'instrument' in my assets folder (piano1/C4.mp3,piano1/D4.mpg,...)Is there a way to import/embed all of these as an array? Also is there a way I can pass a variable to this class to indicate which folder I want to import these from? Something that would be ideal
var type = "piano2"; //passed from class being called by
foreach(notes as note){
[Embed(source = 'assets/sounds/'+type +'/'+note+'.mp3')] private const C3:Class;
public var c3:Sfx = new Sfx(C3);
}
Or would it be a better idea to have a class for each of these "types" that pulls all notes?
I'm having some issue with embedding Traditional Chinese characters from the Arial Unicode MS font. I've used the character set described here (0x4E00 - 0x4FFF).[code]...

View 2 RepliesWhen embedding fonts programmatically, (example here), is it possible to specify certain characters as you might if embedding within the Flash IDE?Here is my code so far, which simply embeds the font. It works, but I am assuming that it is embedding an entire character set.
Code:
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.text.AntiAliasType;

I have a Flash file which contains some dynamic text boxes. ActionScript is being used to fill these boxes using strings. However, I can't seem to get Chinese characters to appear properly. I've tried the actual unicode character as well as their unicode-escaped equivalent but when I export the movie, nothing shows up (blank - it was assumed that the characters are not even present).
View 3 RepliesIs there any way? I thought "maxChars" was promising until I learned it was only for inputting text to a textfield.The XML is coming into a dynamic text box. I need to cut it off at say 500 characters and add an ellipsis.
