ActionScript 3.0 :: Error #2148: Only Local-with-filesystem And Trusted Local SWF Files May Access Local Resources

Jul 4, 2010

I'm trying to load a local xml file:

xmlLoader.load(new URLRequest("../xml/xmlData.xml"));

But I'm getting this security sandbox violation:

#2148: Only local-with-filesystem and trusted local SWF files may access local resources.

I don't get this error when I embed the XML file directly with the EMBED metadata tag.

Flash :: Adding A Folder On The Local Network To The List Of "local-trusted" Places

Jul 22, 2011

I have a SWF file located at the local network in the public shared folder that I do not control over trying to read the external file on the local network.

I am currently hitting instead an security violation

Error #2148: SWF file file://....mySWF.swf cannot access local resource file://...config.xml"

I've added the network path where SWF an XML file resides to "trusted locations" via Flash Player Global Settings.

The added network path is successfully displayed at the list of "trusted locations" within Global Settings Manager, but it does not look like Flash Player is able to really parse the local network path as a "trusted location"

ActionScript 3.0 :: AIR FileSystem - Get Full Local Access?

Dec 22, 2010

Here's a way to read/write anywhere on any local or mapped hard drive with AIR. (Coded for non-Flex):

Code:

import flash.filesystem.*;
var _drive:File = null;
var _stream:FileStream = null;

[code]....

File.GetRootDirectories() returns an array of File objects (the root of each drive, mapped or otherwise). You then compare the name of the drive (C:, D:, E:, etc) to the first two characters of the fileName variable. If you find a match, you use that File object (_drive) to resolve the full path of the file you want to open.

Flash :: SWF Local Trusted Sandbox And Adobe Air?

Oct 27, 2011

We are a research group from the University of Zaragoza (Spain). We are developing educational games for children with special needs, (in particular, with)social and cognitive disabilities. We develop our games with Adobe Flash CS5, so we are enough handy with Action Script language.The emerged problem is related with the security sandboxes in Flash.

At the moment, we are designing a new educative application where image and sound resources come from the Internet, using web services through a "loader.load(new URLRequest(name))" command. We are using the adequate crossdomain file, and it is working fine when published on the web.HOWEVER, now we are thinking on developing a desktop educative application, where educators will configure the game, and keep their work in a local system file. This is where problems arise. As the Flash player sandboxes limits us to "only network", or "only local file system" use, we are not able to access the Internet and to generate local files at the same time.

We are not trying to make a flash virus, we are only trying to make an application for educators, where resources came from the Internet but the application requires access to local file system in order to let educators to save and to load their work in their disk.Reading the Adobe doc, we found the different flash player sandboxes: http:[url]....

It seems that there is a sandbox which enables us to both access internet and local files:"Security.LOCAL_TRUSTED—The SWF file is a local file and has been trusted by the user, using either the Settings Manager or a Flash Player trust configuration file. The SWF file can both read from local data sources and communicate with the Internet." And it seems that Local_trusted SWF files are set by the final user or by installer programs. As we intend to publish the application on the web, and educators will download the application, the installer programs seems a nice option, but we are not able to find info about SWF installer programs.

On the other hand, we know about the Adobe Air solution. We understand that AIR is a substitute to Flash Player. It seems adequate as it will expand our application to other environments like android IOS (tablets, mobiles, ...).The question is: using AIR, would we gain network and local access in our SWF application? And what about the final user? Would he/she be able to download the SWF from our web, and any kind of AIR player and executing our application in an easy way on the device? Finally, what do you think is the best solution for the kind of application we are aiming to?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Allow Access To Both Local And Network Files?

Jul 27, 2009

The reason Ordinarily I would just host everything on the server, the swf file and images and serve them out using something like apache. However, we're working with an embedded device with hardware limitations. So we thought we could avoid this by hosting the images locally on a cd.But Flash player moans about the security settings. I know a way to overcome this would be to give the user instructions to change the global security settings- hence allowing both network and local access. But we feel that this would be too much to expect the end user to do.We want our model to work out of the box so to speak. Or as best as possible.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Access Both Network And Local Files?

Jul 13, 2010

Is it possible to access both network and local files, flash player 9/10?

Here is the situation:

I have an SWF which runs locally on the client's machine.

It communicates, via XML socket, to a C++ server.

It also needs to read some configuration files from the local file system...

c:config.xml <---> test.swf <---> C++ server

So I need the SWF to be fully trusted, as if it was ran from the Flash IDE.But I can't tell my clients to set it to be fully trusted using Adobe's Global Security Settings Panel

What I can do is alter my C++ server code, somehow granting permissions to the SWF.

Flash :: Execute An External .exe From A Local .swf Using A Local XML Socket Server (C#)

Jan 7, 2012

I'm developing a game add-on/plugin which replaces a built in feature of an online game. The game loads an .swf therefore, my solution also has to be an swf for it to work 'in-game'.

I would like to be able to have the user press a button in the custom .swf I am making - and this would open an external application (amongst other things). I.e. if there was a button that said Notepad, it would open Notepad.exe on the machine.

My initial thinking was that i could have a XML Socket server 'daemon' runnning (c#) , which i could connect to with flash - however, as both the swf and the daemon are local, flash complained and gave this error: "Error #2010: Local-with-filesystem SWF files are not permitted to use sockets."

The only way i know to fix this - is to change the security settings of flash - not very user friendly!

So! Any thoughts on how I could otherwise go about this? I was thinking a custom http server could do the trick (connected with URLRequest) although i'm not too sure.

Java :: Record Webcam Video To Local Filesystem From A Browser

Jun 28, 2010

What is the best (and simplest!) way to record video from a webcam to the local filesystem--all from a browser? Ideally the video would be recorded in HD and then we could use ffmpeg later to convert it into the formats and sizes needed.

Here are some things we've looked into:

Use Flash to stream to a local Red5 server. But we've had issues with video quality here. A Java applet using JMF (can we even write to the filesystem from an applet?). We've heard this might not be very efficient though. Can it handle HD?
Write a custom Firefox plugin. Would this be very difficult?

Basically the hardest thing here is that the controls need to be embeddable into a browser. All we need is a box where the webcam frame is displayed to the user, and then some Javascript hooks so we can code start/stop buttons within the HTML page.

The computer is fully controlled (it's a kiosk) and we can do just about anything to it. We just need a solution that runs in the browser. Our current app is run in Firefox in kiosk mode and the webcam recording is just a part.

Silverlight :: A Webpage That Can Discover And Play Music From The Local Filesystem?

Oct 11, 2011

In my scenario, a user visits my webpage and is prompted to select a Music folder on her local filesystem. The web app crawls the folder and indexes it, reading all the metadata from the songs.After a few moments, the index is presented in the page's HTML and the user chooses a song to play.I can't expect to do this with pure Javascript, can I? I imagine I'll have to rely on a heavyweight object (an embedded Flash movie, a Java Web Start, an AIR app, or a Silverlight app) to scan the files and play them.

I feel confident that I could do this with a clunky Java Web Start; but is it possible with an embedded Flash movie? I'm trying to make the process as clean and streamlined as possible for the user.How should I proceed?Which framework can make this dream a reality?And how many permissions screens will the user be forced to wade through?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Remote SWFs May Not Access Local Files

Feb 4, 2007

I have this situation (simplified):
MC-A.swf opened from local computer (C:/) and loads MC-B.swf which is hosted on a server.
When MC-B.swf is loaded, it tries to access file called "loader.swf" which is also on local computer (C:/).

When it tries to access the "loader.swf" I get the following error message:
*** Security Sandbox Violation ***
Connection to file:///C|/loading.swf halted - not permitted from [URL]
-- Remote SWFs may not access local files.

I read discussions concerning this issue, and as I understood, I could use:
System.security.allowDomain("[URL]");
to solve this problem, but it didn't work.
I wouldn't like to change the loaded file to load it's resources also from the web, since it can find them on the local machine.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Uploading Local Files Without Requiring User To Select Files?

Feb 3, 2009

My users upload a certain kind of text file that sometimeshas references to images stored locally on their hard drive. I needto check this file either on the server or within a flash app tosee if it has these references and then grab those images in aflash app to upload to my server.So I can use FileReference easily enough to have users uploadlocal images. But FileReference requires users to select their files with a dialog box. I can't have that. Myusers wouldn't know where to look and there are typically way toomany files, sometimes with the same name but in differentdirectories.

I can also just use URLLoader with a local URL, I guess I canprobably just use Loader too? That works great. The problem here isI can't communicate with both the server and the local filesystemin the same flash application due to Flash's security sandboxrestrictions. So I can get out of those security restrictions byplacing or editing a trust file in designated locations on variousOSes. I then need to install this trust file which is more invasiveand confusing to users then I want to be...Java's method of accessing local files from a web applet bysimply signing the applet with a certificate and having a dialogbox popup where the users grants access is ideal. Is there anything

Publish A SWF With Local Access Permissions?

Nov 22, 2011

We have been purchased a training course made with Flash. When we received the course (a SWF file with external files inside a "data" directory, images, videos, etc), we realized that it was necessary to explicity give permissions to Flash Player to access the content in the CD drive. We think that is not a good idea to distribute a CD where the user have to do "extrange things" to make it work.

So, we talked with the developer and he sent us an .EXE file with the course, that obiously works fine (al the content in the CD is readed without user interaction), but it only works in Windows machines.

The question is: is it possible to publish an SWF that can access to the CD content without user interaction? We are almost sure that the answer is "yes" because we have a lot of "magazines" cds with SWF files that load the contents from CD (text and images) and they work perfectly "as is".

ActionScript 3.0 :: Local File Access Isn't Possible

Jun 16, 2009

I've written a SWF in FlashDevelop (using the open Flex stuff) and use it to load up a bunch of image files.

[Code]...

Now, this works fine in the debugger environment with, say, funcA("test1.jpg"), but when I try and copy the files into another directory, I get security errors, something about it not being 'Local with trusted' or some such. I assume local file access is possible via Flash if the SWF is on the harddrive too, right? I did try adding a Security.allowDomain("*"); to see if that made a difference, but seems not. If local file access isn't possible, do I have to find a server to copy everything onto even for just testing stuff?
