ActionScript 3.0 :: Get Stage Width Of An Loaded Swf?
Sep 21, 2010
Is there any way to get the real stageWidth of an loaded swf? The problem comes when the loaded swf has some elements outside the scene. In this case content.width becomes bigger then the scene. My code looks like this:

I have a parent swf that loads another swf (it's for a client). The parent swf 's stage dimensions don't match the child's. How can the child set the stage dimensions?
I've tried this after the child was loaded, but it's not working:
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
stage.stageWidth = 700;
stageHeight = 600;

How can I get the loaded clip's stage dimensions? Let's assume I have an animation of a square there, moves from x position 0 to x position 100 and the square is 10x10 px. I will adjust the dimensions of this clip to 110 x 10 px (so the animation fits exactly). Now I load this. But once the load is complete, if I check the loader width and height, it shows me only 10x10 (as in the first frame the square has 10x10 and is placed at 0,0). Thefore I am unable to center this animation on the loader clip's stage.

is there a way to make a minimum width and stop resize? I have a menu I am building that is locked to the bottom of the browser and 3 buttons on the left and a movieClip on the right. When you resize the browser window - currently - you can make the button on the right sink under the three on the left.

how to get a movieclip named "topnav" to resize it's width to match that of the stage. I am trying to resize the width of a top nav bar across a resizable RIA. I have started with the following code but with only partial success:
Code:

function resizeListener (e:Event):void {
var reg2 = stage.stageWidth / 100;

When you resize the browser window the thumbnails rows and columns adjust accordingly to fit.I've managed to attach the thumbnails correct when my enableButtons() function is called but i'm unsure how to approach resizing.
Stage.align = "TL";
var numberOfGalleries:Number = 20;
var thumbMarginX:Number = 163;
var thumbMarginY:Number = 109;

I am trying to reference to top level (stage) width and height of the main stage for the placement of something located inside a movieclip on the stage.
My code is:
Code:
my_loader.x = (stage.stageWidth - my_loader.width)/2;
my_loader.y = (stage.stageHeight - my_loader.height)/2;
But this seems to just relate to the width/height of the mc that my_loader is nested in...
I have tried the following and had no luck:
stage.stage.stageWidth
root.stage.stageWidth
parent.stage.stageWidth
MovieClip(root).stage.stageWidth

I have a Movieclip on stage with nested movieclips inside. All referenced at 0,0. None of the child movieclips load any dynamic content, animate or have Masked Layers. It does have an input textfield in one of the child MCs. The parent MC shows 280 px width, while it returns 313 px with a .width trace. There is no code that alters the .width value of the parent MC at run-time. And the ParentMC on stage is not scaled (it is at 100% width/height)

I am having an issue with pulling width and height from an external swf.
I can load it ok, and place it ok, but I want to shrink it when I place it and that is where the problem occurs. Here is the abridged code. The odd thing is that if I move the width and height lines inside the function, it works. Trouble is every time you click that tab the swf shrinks a little more.
Code:
//------------------Calling the external SWF and loading it-------------
var myRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest ("images/filter.swf");
var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();

is it possible to get the width of a loaded movie? for example:-
Code:
_root.createEmptyMovieClip("pic", 1);
_root.pic.loadMovieClip("pic.swf");
trace(_root.pic._width);
From the code above, my trace outputs (0), ignoring the width of the loaded pic.swf, has anyone ever encountered this or a way around it?

I have created some movie clips dynamically using createEmptyMovieClip. Then I am loading images into the clips using the MovieClipLoader. In the onLoadComplete of the loader I am trying to position the clips based on the _width and _height.
I would think that since the clips are loaded as indicated by the OnLoadComplete firing they would have a _width, but it comes up as 0. What gives?

Why is this not working?
ActionScript Code:
var ld:Loader = new Loader()
ld.load(new URLRequest("bi.swf"));
trace(ld.width);
addChild(ld);
It loads and is added just fine. But I need to know it's width in order so that I can center it better.It says that the width = 0?and if i do this...
ActionScript Code:
var ld:Loader = new Loader()
ld.load(new URLRequest("bi.swf"));
addChild(ld);
trace(ld.width);
I get the same result that the width is 0?

I am loading several movies into a main movie. I'm using moviecliploader class.loadMovie with a listener object.On LoadInit sets the dimensions and position of the loaded movie.With one of the movies this works fine, but with the other, as soon as I set the width, the movie disappears and on tracing the width following setting it it turns out to be 0.I've just returned to actionscript after a month and I have a memory like a sieve. I'm sure I remember this happening before but I can't remember what I did.

I'm trying to change the position of a movieclip I've added to the stage. When I try to access stage.width or stage.height I get 0. I've tried MovieClip(root).stage, DisplayObject(root).stage, root.stage, stage, and simply width and height. All of these are equal to zero.

- I have A.fla.
- A.fla includes buttons, movie clips and also B.swf is loaded in A.fla using a LOADER
- i want to access elements in A.fla, from the actionscript codes inside B.fla to modify those movie clips and buttons based on actions going on in B.swf
for instance, lets say there is a button X in A.fla, and there is a button Y in B.fla, B.swf is loaded into A.fla, and I want the button Y to erase button X when clicked.
general question: accessing elements in a stage, through a SWF file loaded into that stage.

I'm doing an image gallery from xml file, and the thumbnails have diferent sizes. Around the thumbnail there is a border, both are diferent movie clips (thumb and border). they reside inside a main movieclip wich is being duplicated.
So I need to resize the border according the new size of the thumb movieclip, but flash actually gets the value from the starting value of the thumb, not the size after the file was load on to it.
I just thought flash would read the new value if i set the var for the width after the load movie, but that ain't happening =(.
My code so far:
Code:
function createButton(newObj, thumbNode, bigImageNode){
duplicateMovieClip(thumb_base, newObj, depthCount++);
var tempName = eval(newObj);

I have the following sample code and I'm not quite sure where I'm missing the mark[code]...
Am I just calling the wrong attribute? The over all goal is to find out the size of the SWF that just got loaded and to match it to the size of another MovieClip elsewhere in the code.
