View 2 RepliesI have a Flash file which contains some dynamic text boxes. ActionScript is being used to fill these boxes using strings. However, I can't seem to get Chinese characters to appear properly. I've tried the actual unicode character as well as their unicode-escaped equivalent but when I export the movie, nothing shows up (blank - it was assumed that the characters are not even present).

I can't get my text to show in a text field created at runtime within a movieclip on _root. I use a trace statement and it loads into the Output box but is not visible in the textField area. there are no masks in the movieClip.

I am having trouble loading Chinese Symbols into a TextField from another TextField. I have a dynamic drop down box that loads its text from a string within the actionscript code, however the actionscript code cannot contain chinese symbols. I thought the easiest way around this problem would be to load the text from another TextField, however it seems to appear blank, failing to load the text. example base1_mc.header1.textbox_txt.text=q1.text; base1_mc.header1.textbox_txt.text = dynamic drop down textbox. q1.text = chinese symbols inside TextField on the stage. I thought this would have been a simple problem, however it doesnt appear to be so. If I try to load it using this ase1_mc.header1.textbox_txt.text=q1; it loads some text declaring a new and empty function.

-input1 is for quantity
-input2 is for page count
When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. So... I have create a movieclip and placed a dynamic textfield inside it. They all have instance names BUT how do I reference it in script?I need to tell the resulting calculation to be placed inside the textfield which is inside the movieclip. If it isn't inside a movie clip I can do it. But how to I reference it when inside one?

I know this is similar to an already asked question, but I would love to get some more detailed help on how the outcome was achieved. I have a website with SWF animations of automotive systems. Each animation has labels naming the parts, action buttons to show failures, and links to other animations. The text for each label is dynamic, with the label being pulled from an XML file. We allow the user the option of changing the language, and currently have successfully used English/French/Spanish (all left to right) and Hebrew (right to left).
We are trying to add Traditional Chinese for a user in Taiwan, and are having difficulty getting the characters to display. We can make it work if we embed the font file into the SWF, but the file size increases to a point that it is not practical to do. I want to use the "Device Font" option, so that we can enter the Chinese text into our XML file, and then the SWF will use the font file from the end users computer to display the characters, but if I change the text property to "Device Font" it makes all the label text in the boxes disappear, no matter what language I select. If I leave the box set to "Anti-alias", the other languages display correctly.
The XML file contains this for the Chinese language label:

Is there something I am forgetting to do?
The desired affect is simple: I have a single button... with each click I want it to load text into a dynamic text field and load a corresponding picture or movieclip.There are only three unique text/image combinations- after its displayed the third, with the next click I want it to just start over. All the text functions perfectly with each click.
The problem is:I use "createEmptyMovieClip" then use the resulting clip as a loader clip.. With the first click I want a movieclip from the library to load, so I use the "attachMovie" method- it displays the first library fine.With the next click I want to load an external swf- so I call the "loadMovie" method of the loaderclip... The external swf loads just fine replacing the first library clip.The third clip is where I have problems... now I want to load another library item into the loaderclip... so I tried using the attachMovie method again but the external swf remains static... then with the next click, I discover the first library item no longer loads and the external swf remains still playing- it's like once it's been loaded into the loaderclip it cant be moved...
So I tried adding the "unloadMovie" method in the code for the third click.. it successfully removed the swf... but the next line of code immediately after the unload statement, doesn't work. The line calls the attachMovie method for the loaderclip... but the library item doesnt load... Oddly enough, with the next click, the first library item now does load as if everything's fine... It seems like you cant use the unloadMovie and attachMovie on the same executing code? if that makes any sense... the basic idea was that if I couldnt get the attachmovie method to replace the loaded external swf, then I would use the unload method to remove it, then have code immediately after, to then execute the attachMovie method... but it still doesnt load the library clip. and I know it's not a type-o, because when I comment out the loadMovie and unloadMovie statements, it loads both the library items perfectly ? I have a chinese page to upload in web..normally the file size is 15 to 20 kb, but when i embed the character(glyphs) the file size will be more than 7mb, so i cant load my page in web....Do u have any solutions for this.the page is in as2. Instead of loading the comment text from within XML, I want to load a .txt file into a dynamic textfield in Flash with XML. The code in XML I changed to <caption>folder/pic01.txt</caption>. The content of the txt file will be modified daily by the client.What i need is that if there is too much text in the txt file, the dynamic textfield resizes (and not only with autosize because the text can be really long).[code]it doesnt look very good but it works. Now the shoppingchart.swf has a movieClip with the instancename "shopLine_mc" in this movieClip there is a dynamic textfield with the var called product. Now I'd say that if I press the button the shoppingchart.swf should load on level2 and show the text "single toothpick" in the textfield right? It doesnt... it does load the shoppingchart.swf but the dynamic textfield doesnt change.
I have a dynamic text field which is just one line of text. For some reason letters like g or p that go below the regular line of text get cut off. I have made the field bigger, and also played around with the _height Property but it doesn't make a difference. I have imported the font into the Library. When I embed it the font doesn't cut off but looks very different. And if I change the field to a static field it doesn't cut off either, but the font looks a little different as well.

I wanna know if it's able to make flash 'cut' some extra text from long strings and show ellipsis instead.
I mean, if it receives "ABCDEFGHIJ", if the string exceeds the textfield width, it would show "ABCDE..."

View 1 RepliesSome of the dynamic text fields in my application stopped working. This is part of a major application which I have been working on for a few months. It worked fine until today. 3 different dynamic text fields suddenly do not show text when I set the text from actionscript This is what I tried:
1) Tried with and without text embedding
2) Turned on and off html
3) Tried with .text and .htmlText
4) Removed the TextField and added a new one
5) Added static text into the dynamic TextField and did not add the dynamic text with actionscript --> the initial text appeared I am working with CS3 and recently updated. I am considering deleting Flash and not running the update.
I'm wondering whether it's possible to generate alias text in dynamic textfields, similar to setting text to "Bitmap text" when doing so manually. If so how would it be coded? I don't see any TextFormat properties that allow for such a thing.

I shortened my code to make it easier to read and still show what I am trying to do. Also I can I place the text within the BlueMenu or only on top of it? Is so how?

As this field is editable characters 30-45 may no longer be at 30-45 if the text is edited in any way.
