ActionScript 3.0 :: Menu Is Working But There Is Errors
Feb 22, 2009
i have menu on main time line with "menu_mc) it is animation tween so:
- frame one there is stop()
- when over, it plays untill frame 30, so the user can click the sub buttons
- when out, it plays and stop at frame 1
these errors are: 1- the following error appears when i load another swf ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable event is not defined. at ELI_fla::MainTimeline/loadSection() at section1_fla::MainTimeline/frame147()
2- The following error appears when i click any where after the next swf loaded TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
I am trying to create a hidden, rollup/rolldown menu, that once rolled on animates up and then exposes thumbnails that will be wired in a gallery type setting. I have hit a roadblock and farily new to As3. I'm pretty sure I'm doing something simple wrong, but I can't for the life of me figure it out. Can anyone please shed some light? I feel like there needs to be a course just in flash output errors! I'm thinking the problem is with my addThumbs(); function, but before this mass of errors, my Sprite was the source of new errors - I thought that it would be an easier option to place all of my thumbnails inside a container and then manipulate that containers alpha or presence than indiviudal items.
When I attempt to select an item from the right click context menu, it sems as though the mouse "jumps". If I click repeatedly enough sometimes it will trigger the selected item. It only seems to be a problem on Windows FireFox/Chrome. It works fine on Windows IE, Mac Firefox/Chrome/Safari. Any ideas?I've added a function that displays a white halo when you mouse down to show where the computer is interpreting the mouse click.
I know my way around basic Flash, I can work with script as long as I have script assist for basic things like getting URLs and linking buttons etc. I'm trying to create a "don't show this page again" on the opening page of a mini-site using a checkbox component and so far, I've dragged a checkbox onto the stage from the components window and only been able to change its label to "don't show again" from "checkbox" in the parameters window. I've given it the instance name of 'showAgainCheckBox' and I have this code on the component layer first frame looking like this.
Code: Select allshowAgainCheckBox.addEventListener( Mouse.Click, onshowAgainClick ); function onShowAgainClick( e:MouseEvent ):void { // do something about the click here }
Of course the code is filled with errors from what I get of the compiler message. I've been trying to get the logic. So I might need like a 'checkbox component for dummies' kinda explanation.
I'm a begginer flash game developer-ish individual working on my first project - An economic game with RPG elements, I'm mixing AS 3.0 with Flash CS5 (for the graphics, buttons, tweens and the simple stuff in general since it's easier for me atm than scripting it). The trouble started when I had to script in variables. I've sorted out a couple of issues but a few still remain:
1. I need to limit three of my main skills to 0-100. Only managed to stumble across tutorials for AS2,
2. Each character will have 3 main skills, and then the 18 secondary skills will be calculated from those 3 values. This works fine, when I modify existing variables directly in the code. The thing is that I created those buttons that add or subtract from a certain skill value, but when I press them the var changes but all of the 18 skills remain unchanged (as if they do not refresh themselves - i was thinking about an eventListener waiting for a change in skill value but if I would have to do one for every one of the 18 skills in conjunction with the 6 buttons to change levels - so 144 functions - im thinking maybe an array...but I'm such an actionscript newb that I can hardly translate the tutorials into my ideas.
3. Also wondering how to create a pool of unused skill points so when I add points I can't max it out right off the bat but rather take it from that value instead and once it's 0 you can't add points anymore.
4. Last but not least, I'm having trouble creating global values. My main menu is in scene1 and when I press Newgame it goes to scene2, the problem starts when i go back to main menu errors keep showing up (since scene 1 has no information about statistics but a function probably keeps asking )which means that the program can't get access to an attribute or a method of reference for the null object at MainMenu_fla (don't be fooled by the file name, I have everything in 1 fla file)Of course an error pops up for every skill, main or secondary.
I've started working on a drop down menu and I keep running into the following errors.1120: Access of undefined property Moiveclip.1118: Implicit coercion of a value with static type Object to a possibly unrelated type flash.display:DisplayObject. Both compiler errors point to this line of code - navBar_mc.setChildIndex(event.target as Moiveclip, 1);
Actoinscripting:
import flash.filters.GlowFilter;import flash.events.MouseEvent; var navBtnGlow:GlowFilter = new GlowFilter (0x999999, 0.5, 0, 15, 1, 2, true,
......
I've found out that when publishing with Flash 8 my previous MX's working fla files, I get multiple errors.I've had a look at the Export publishing settings and I think they're all correct: - Exporting version: 8- AS Version: 1.0So, I guess it must be a silly thing I'm doing wrong but after a long while I haven't been able to know what's wrong. Perhaps AS compatibility is not that accurate?The most common error I get is:"A ')' or ',' was expected" or"An unexpected '}' was found"(I'm using Spanish Flash 8, so I don't know if this is the exact message you're given in English Flash 8) The 'supposed to be wrong' code seems to be in lines like[AS].posicion = posicion+eval("abc" add i)+gap;abc=eval("_parent._parent.abc" add _parent.n)[/AS]and I even get a "Declaration must be inside a on/onClipEvent controller" here:[AS]._xscale=abc*1.4;[/AS] ...while ALL of this code worked perfectly in Flash MX, I get up to 104 errors in Flash 8
I have this streaming video player with an asyncErrorHandler function which isn't working correctly.In Flash player 10 I get no errors, but in Flash player 9 I'll get a popup window with the error message that shows up in my output window when I test on my local machine.
Error #2044: Unhandled AsyncErrorEvent:. text=Error #2095: flash.net.NetConnection was unable to invoke callback onBWDone. error=ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property onBWDone not found on src.display.VideoClass and there is no default value.
I feel that I have my AsyncErrorEvent setup correctly however, but am unsure as to why I still get a massive error in my output window, here is the popup window and code below:My statusEventHandler function
// ☼ --- Handle Status and Errors function statusEventHandler(event:NetStatusEvent):void { trace("connected is: "+ncConnection.connected); trace("event.info.level: "+event.info.level);
I'm trying to make a flash animation but I'm getting these two errors: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property enabled through a reference with static type Class. (line 4) 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method addEventListener through a reference with static type Class. (line 5) This is the code I'm using: Code: Select allimport flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*; stop(); buti.enabled; buti.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,pla); function pla(e:MouseEvent):void { gotoAndPlay(2); }
My animation is a initial photo that turns around and becomes a black backgroud (were I'll add some text), now what I want is that the photo won't animate until I do a click in it. I used a Layer with a transparent image and converted it to a button and the export name is buti. The other to layers were converted to movie clips named preto and foto.
I use a flash header on my website with a slideshow and i want to create a drop down menu. I have created a movie clip for this menu and can get it to drop down but when i attempt to add buttons for links to other pages within the website on the menu i get errors and the menu blinks.
I've got the very old infinite menu posted on Kirupa's site. I haven't done anything but switch it to a vertical menu, but the problem is that I put a button in the menu, the 2nd grey box, with a getURL that just goes to google. Problem is, it won't load the url. I had wanted to put buttons in this menu to get new URLs or do things it flash, but it won't respond.
I have a drop down menu but it is not working, it has buttons in a movie clip. let me know what I am doing wrong? it is coded in AS2 not I have added a winzip file of the .fla file. if I click on the menu it should go to --> about us --> history
I'm having an issue with my dropdown menu, and I know how It's not working, but not why. See, I have an mc in my menu that I have a rollOver and rollOut function on. This makes it swap between frame 1 and 2 (2 beeing the frame with dropdown). Here's the issue: When I have the rollOver/Out function on the main item, the submenu items don't do anything when clicked. But when I remove the rollOver/Out function and just go directly to frame to from start, they work.
I'm currently learning ActionScript 3 and am having some problems getting some classes & functions that I have created to work when I put them into reusable .as packages. While I understand the basics of AS3 & OO programming I'm getting a little miffed as to why my code is not working.
I've created several AS functions such as a preloader function, reusable button function, customized context menu function etc. which all work perfectly if I place the AS code on the main timeline of the movie, like so:
======================================= // Creates a new context menu object (myMenu) var myMenu:ContextMenu = new ContextMenu(); // Hides the default items (zoom, quality etc.) myMenu.hideBuiltInItems();
....
I don't get any error messages, but the customized context menu (with default items removed) is not appearing when I compile the movie.
My initial thought was that the script might not be running through, so I put a trace in, if I uncomment that line of code I get "testing" on the screen so the fuction is running through.I have a feeling, and I could easilly be wrong, that its because my "this.contextMenu = myMenu;" action is not attached to the main timeline so cannot display the customized context menu. If I'm right, how would I go about getting the action to attach to the main timeline.
The following code is from the CS3 Language Reference.Pasted into a new file it works.Pasted into my current project it doesn't.what settings I might have that are disabling it?
this.createTextField("news_txt", this.getNextHighestDepth(), 10, 10, 320, 240);news_txt.border = true;news_txt.wordWrap = true;news_txt.multiline = true;news_txt.text = "To see the custom context menu item, right click (PC) or ";news_txt.text += "control
....
I'm having a bit of trouble getting a button in a hoover over drop down menu to link to another scene in the .swf movie. I just doing a basic drop down menu (example here: with a couple of buttons with in a movie clip, the movie clip being the "button" someone hoovers over. The buttons however are not going to the corrisponding scene I have them set up to. What's strange is that if I set in the buttons action panel to go to an url instead of a scene, in the .swf movie the button works when I click it...it wants to go the specificed url. Nothing happens when it's set to go to a scene.
My problem is that I just recently start working on the company website. They a have menu bar on the side of the website. Some of the links dont work. Where would I find the hyper links in the file to change them to make them work?
Im creating a menu navigation, which loads a sub menu movie clip from the library on specific button press. It does this by looking at the current selection (a number variable) and closing the currently active submenu. Once loaded it then changes the number variable to the value of the current submenu.
This works fine, most of the time... sometimes the number variable and menu loaded is completely wrong.
There are six buttons on the menu bar, included is sample script from the 'About' button, there is more to the script but it is instances of this sample, only button names etc change.
I have a flash movie with a hidden menu. The hidden menu will appear whenever theres a rollover at the portion that says 'quick menu' . This portion of the quick menu btn is visible to users.
Now here's the problem: After writing the OnRollOver tween for ._y , the individual btns on the menu stop working, the trace dun even work !!!!
Here's the sample(.swf) and working file(.fla) http://www.greenimagination.com/preview/pacodis/scope/ .
I am using a scroll bar for a menu. However, I keep getting error 1120. I selected all of my menu buttons, and created a new symbol, with instance name "content". When I compile, I get 1120, error Access of undefined property. I am assuming this is because, my buttons are now associated with the scroller content area. My question is basically, how do you get buttons to work inside of a scroll area?
so heres the deal i have a drop down menu that for some reason is not picking up button presses, im starting to think its because the drop down menu is within another movie clip, but its driving me nuts, any reasons why an embeded movie clip wouldnt be picking up a hitTest or a this.onRelease ??? ahh driving me nuts heres my code im using the undocumented tween class
I write a flex application. I added some custom menu items in context menu. when I compiled this code using flashplayer 10.0, it works fine and my added context menu items are shown when I Right-Click. But when I compile same code for flashPlayer 10.1, menu items that I added in context menu are not shown when I Right-Click. I am using sdk 3.5.
I am doing this; private var cm:ContextMenu = new ContextMenu(); var versionMenu:ContextMenuItem = null; var dateMenu:ContextMenuItem = null; if(model.appVersion.length > 0) { versionMenu = new ContextMenuItem(model.appVersion);
.....
I have a home page and five other pages. The five pages have a main menu at the top containing buttons that allow you to go to the other pages:
on(release){ gotoAndPlay("gallery"); }
I have an actions layer. Each section has the following action in the first frame: stop(); When I view the website the home page works correctly. However, any page with the main menu automatically switches to the next page after about six seconds. The code seems pretty straightforward so I have no idea what I'm missing.
I have downloaded the following code and tried to change it. It works so far, but the attached MC are "pulsating" - if I change them with another MC (with text inside) I can't use them as a Menu links - they are "pulsating" too much and I can't read/see the text properly. where in code I can change(reduce) this "pulsation"? how can I make the MC-s cklickable=working as a buttons with mouseover/mouseout effects (changing color etc.)
