ActionScript 3.0 :: Return Multiple Variables From A Function?
Jul 21, 2011
As seen below, I tried to return more then one variable from a function but , I think I have some syntax problem..
function hesapla3(parametre1,parametre2):(Number&&Boolean) // PROBLEM IS HERE, I NEED TWO VARIABLES TO RETURN{var yenideger2:Number=new Number();var bol2:Boolean=new Boolean();yenideger2=parametre1+parametre2;if(yenideger2>80){bol2=false;}return yenideger2;return bol2;trace(yenideger2);trace(bol2);}
I'm new to Actionscript programming. I'm trying to figure out what is the best way to return multiple variables, each having a different data type, from a function. For example, if a function needs to return variable aa ( a string) and variable bb (a number).
The function I'm using just crunches a lot of math, and doesn't relate to an object in a GUI. One method I got from a Google search used an Object, but as (I think) this requires me to create a class, I wondered if there was a simpler way. Since an array can hold elements of different data types, perhaps this is a simpler approach (?). [code]...
I'm pulling info from an XML file... there are three variables (year, month, day) that I need to process further in another function, but I can't figure out how to send them out of the function and into the next for processing.
Is it possible to make their values globally accessible?[code]...
I'm making a XML photogallery. Im using a MovieClipLoader to load multiple images on the screen at the same time. I've assigned variable path to hold image
I'm having some troubles with the use of interface and inheritance in AS3. I've done lots of OOP in the past and what I'm trying to do seems obvious to me, but doesn't work in AS3. The question is : Is it possible to override a function that return an Object of class A, and make it return an Object of Class B which extends A ? It seems not to be possible, since I'm getting a signature error in Flash, when compiling. For example, the following set of class do not compile (the code in function definition doesn't matter):
I'm using an AMF service that was built by someone else. Basically what happens is that some info is passed to the AMF service and it returns true or false.I want to be able to pass in various info to the a function that calls the AMF service(submitTracking) and then get the true or false value returned in onResultSubmit to be passed back to submitTracking.
var screen:String; var buttonnumber:String; function submitTracking(screen:String, buttonnumber:String) {
I've got 3 variables called pSize1 = 15, pSize2 = 16, pSize3 = 17. I have some radio buttons that have the data: 1, 2, 3. depending on what radio button is pressed, I need to trace the data in either pSize1, pSize2, or pSize3.if they user presses the first radio button, it returns data 1, how can I combine that with "pSize" to return 15, and not "pSize1". What i have tried so far:
Code: var listenerObject:Object = new Object(); listenerObject.click = function(eventObj:Object):Void { thisSize = eventObj.target.selectedRadio.data[code]......
I want to assign an existing Object all the vars of a prototype Object, without a direct reference. One way to do this is:
[Code]...
This way both Object's values for .nom and .age can be independently changed, but it's tedious. Is there an automated way to assign all of protoObject's vars to enObj?
First of all sorry im not very familiar with the flash lingo, im still new to all this actionscript stuff
ok so i wrote this on a frame in the timeline[code]...
now i need to check which one from all these has a value of zero. then when it finds it i need it to tell me which one it is (s1x or s2x or s3x) so i can do stuff with it.
I have the maximum possible reduced cod of an xml accessing data:
Code: Select allvar myLoader:URLLoader; var myURL:URLRequest; var myXML:XML;
[code]....
How i could make a CORRECT RETURN of these myLoader.data possible values so i could have "in the end" some EXTERNAL variables:
var myName:String = new String() myName == .....the result from function "readXML": ....trace(myXML.product.name[2]) or var myNumber:Number = new Number() myNumber == .....the result from function "readXML": ....trace(myXML.product.length())
I am using Freddy Thunder's tutorial on how to make a login script with php/mySQL The problem is that the button doesn't do anything when I click it. I can't tell if it goes to the php script, but it sure doesn't return the correct variables like it is supposed to.

Anyway, I have a function that goes through an XML file, looking for a specific value. If it finds it, it should return the node that contains that value. However, I'm having trouble with the whole return part of it.My code is:
I am trying to have the function toggleClick return powerData. I need to store powerData in a variable and have it passed to another function to do calculations.
Inside the function toggleClick, I am assigning powerData to houseArray[e.currentTarget.name.toLowerCase()];
var powerData:int = houseArray[e.currentTarget.name.toLowerCase()];
I tried just to write return powerData--but it breaks the program.
// function toggleClick function toggleClick(e:MouseEvent) { // Store "Power" Values of House Objects in Array
I'm communicating to these movie clips with another program via binary sockets.For the first set of movie clips: when it recieves its instance name, and a second number (InstanceName+#) from the socket, the named movie clip will jump to the frame corresponding with that number. for ex:if the incoming data from the socket is (mc7+3), then movieclip 7 will jump to frame 3.
For the second set of movie clips: when it recieves its instance name, and a second number (InstanceName+#) from the socket, the named movie clip will move location across the screen, by the y coordinate moving to the # given by the socket...thats a little confusing. for ex: if the incoming data from the socket is (mc4+500), then movieclip 4 will move so that it's y coordinate is at 500.[code]...
I've found out that when publishing with Flash 8 my previous MX's working fla files, I get multiple errors.I've had a look at the Export publishing settings and I think they're all correct: - Exporting version: 8- AS Version: 1.0So, I guess it must be a silly thing I'm doing wrong but after a long while I haven't been able to know what's wrong. Perhaps AS compatibility is not that accurate?The most common error I get is:"A ')' or ',' was expected" or"An unexpected '}' was found"(I'm using Spanish Flash 8, so I don't know if this is the exact message you're given in English Flash 8) The 'supposed to be wrong' code seems to be in lines like[AS].posicion = posicion+eval("abc" add i)+gap;abc=eval("_parent._parent.abc" add _parent.n)[/AS]and I even get a "Declaration must be inside a on/onClipEvent controller" here:[AS]._xscale=abc*1.4;[/AS] ...while ALL of this code worked perfectly in Flash MX, I get up to 104 errors in Flash 8
I'm trying to develop a simple as3 flash program that passes a collection a variables and returns a result based on the filtered results of a mysql table. Here is my as3 file:
[Code]...
No value is returned. If I replace with '$test4' and '$test5' with numbers such as 1 and 17, a value is returned. Where am I making a mistake?
I have several buttons calling the bounceOut() function andthe bounceOut() function calls the onMotionFinish() function. Afterthat function is finished I want to go back to the original callingFirst a call is made to bounceOut() when a button is clicked.I have ten buttons.
function bounceOut() { var smSlide:Tween=new Tween(sideMenu_mc,"x",Regular.easeOut,200,-200,2,true);
I basically have a class which loads a set of MovieClip objects and provides accessor functions to return them.[code]Obviously this doesn't work, but it gives an idea of what I'm trying to do. I want to return a MovieClip to the calling code only if the object has been loaded.
I have one function "Login" and function "_urlSended" inside of function "Login". So i want that sub function returned value as a parent function. I just want that script to work
<![CDATA[ function onButton1click():void { Label1.text = Login('irakli', 'password1');
I've run into a bit of a snag on this slideshow I'm trying to create. My plan involves adding movie clips from the library by attaching them to an empty movieClip. Then using setInterval and a variable as a counter, it increments in the function. When the number reaches "20" the first movieclip is removed and the next one is displayed. Here is my code:
//How do you bring on the second slide when the first is removed? So, my problem is that I'm thinking that the return value from my function should be 20 but instead I get 0 in the trace statement.My plan was if it equaled 20 to bring the next slide out from the library, thus moving forward with the slideshow.
