ActionScript 3.0 :: Xml Based Dynamic Text Field With Huge Swf File
Mar 16, 2009
I'm trying to make an xml based tracklist for a music mix on a website. The code loads the info from the XML file, and displays it in the text field, and I have a UIScrollbar component as well. When I test movie, everything seems to be working fine. However, the swf file is 14.1 MB. The .FLA is only 690kb... so where the hell is the size coming from? I only have text in the xml file, and the code is pretty compact. Why is the swf so big?[code];If anyone knows how this could be done so I can create one shell swf file, and load the xml file in the html/php code.
I know this is a tutorial on this site but I'm having trouble finding it, and its been a while so I can't remember exactly how to do it. I just need to make a dynamic text field that you can edit via text file.
I have a dynamic text field that displays text from an external file. The text file has lists of text such as a1=(text here)&w1=(text here)& etcI want to be able to make a button so that will add one to the word count, such as, a button that says "Next" and when i do that, it loads the text string A2, when i click it again, it loads A3
I have a dynamic textfield being populated with an xml files' content. I then have a css stylesheet loaded into format the text. This all works great, but what doesn't work is the ability to bold some of the words in that text. I have both the regular and bold versions of the font embedded into the swf, I can test out just a bold block of text and it works fine. The css is also working as it will change the size of the text that I tell it to. Everything is working, but for some reason I am not able to get the bolder version of the font to display in the same text box as the regular one. I have also tried to change fonts but had the same outcome.

I'm working with my .fla file and an external .as file. I've got things working the way I want and now I'm trying to add a dynamic text field to my .fla file. I've added the dynamic text field to the stage manually (not via action script code) and when I go to publish my file I get the following error message. 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: TextField. Do I need to add an "import" to the front of my .as file? I currently have these import statements... import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.display.Bitmap; import flash.display.Loader; import flash.events.*; import flash.net.*;
If I hardcode the file name in the code, then it works fine. This is on the first frame of my movie, which holds the dynamic text field.
Code: myData = new LoadVars(); myData.onLoad = function(success) {
[Code]....
Is there a trick to defining url's for dynamic text fields? Because if I hardcode the path from the server, it works locally, but again not on the server...
Could it be a problem of permisson (since the url of the txt is from a different page than the one the swf is on)?

Its a simple matter of loading text from a text file named "data" into a dynamic field. The code in the frame itself is loadText = new LoadVars(); loadText.load("data.txt"); loadText.onLoad = function() { name.text = this.name; };
The thing is that the SWF file I load the text into (called "RASHI.swf"). I loaded into another SWF file called "index.swf". My site is based on this tutorial [URL]. When I run "RASHI.swf" on my PC everything is fine and the text is loaded but when I run "index.swf" (again, on my PC, not the web) it says "Undefined".
I'm pulling data from an XML file into dynamic text fields in Flash. I have a field where I want to pull in a different url for each node, but display the same text and I'm not sure how to set that up.
I have a dynamic text on the stage which gets updated (shows numbers) when some buttons are pressed.I just need to know if it is possible to show the first dynamic textfield in another dynamic textfield.Lets say the first dynamic textfield called "price" and the second one called "price2". when a button is pressed, the first dynamic textfield "price" will show a number. is it possible to show whatever is shown in the "price" in "price2" ?
I'm creating an XML-driven pie chart in AS3 with 2 text boxes in each pie slice. Both text fields are dynamic in the sense that they are populated by the XML doc and then told where to place themselves in the AS3. I've got them both using the same x and y position to place themselves at the moment (which of course puts them right one top of each other), but I'd like to make one of the fields (which acts like a label or a title to the larger number and % text field) place itself in a particular spot around the other text field. The result I'm looking for is to have the smaller "title" text field appear approximately 5 pixels above and left-justified to the larger "percentage" field.
Anyway, here are two sections of code that I've currently got. The first chunk, for the Tags portion, sets the position for the "percentage" text field using a good old x and y method. The second chunk, for Titles, is setting the position for the smaller "title" text.
//evaluate tags private function evaluateTags():void{ for (s=0; s
I'm trying to load an external html file into a dynamic text field. The dynamic text field has html display enabled. The html file contains a list of links in <a> tags, and nothing more. The dynamic text field is called 'dynamictext', and I've tried:
im trying to pull attributes from my xml file for use in a dynamic text field but cant seem to get the actionscript dialed in properly. i have a php script which parses the data as attributes rather than nodes...so my actionscript must use these attributes!
If you have a CSS ready, an XML file that already appears inside a dynamic text field, what AS2 code would you use to connect the CSS so it applies to the XML file which is now unstyled?
I have arrays of dynamic text field that took data from an XML file from the database. Everything went well, except for the part that, when I insert a <a> </a> tag inside the XML file, the dynamic text alignment and lines went all weird. I wonder what's the problem with that...
Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.
I am trying to load text from an external XML file into a dynamic text box. I have so far managed to load single parts of the XML file into a dynamic text field. I now want to be able to load different parts of the XML file (something similar to a string with appendText) into the same text Field. I have so far managed to achive this using the String and append text properties, but would like to use XML file to do it instead.
I've had a Flash website up and running for about a year which includes an external text file linked to a dynamic text field.
Everything worked well until I recently added content to the external text file.
Suddenly, the file won't load in flash.
If I play around and cut a line here or there, it sometimes loads. Sometimes not. Sometimes it looks like there might be a character limit. Sometimes it looks like flash might be having a problem with certain characters.
So my questions are:
1.) Does Flash have a limit on the amount of characters that can be displayed in a dynamic field.
I'm trying to load a simple variable &myVar from a php file into my flash movie, that's a blank movie with just actionscript in it.I tried to load this &myVar into a dynamic Text field and it works fine, but I can't get this value into a flash variable to manipulate it with actionscript.. Must be simple.. My actionscript it
Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. Can some one tell me how to do this with PHPBBs existing php scripts... I want to be able to login thorugh a Input Text Field box and have it verify it in PHP and also be able to register and view other PHP info such as users online and FAQ..
I have combed the Web and I can't seem to find the answer. All I want to do is display some html-formatted text, located within an external XML file, in a dynamic text field in Flash CS3.
I don't have any code to supply because at this point the only thing I'm trying to display in the text field is "<b>This</b> is a <a href="http://www.google.com">test</a>." For this hypothetical example, I could call the text field myTextField. I just need to know how to format the AS3 code to get the XML to display inside myTextField.
I've been using Flash for a few years now and I've recently (5 months+) started using CS5 package.My query is how do I successfully embed accented latin characters into a "classic" dynamic text field in my compiled Flash movie that are called from an external text file. I've searched the various forums online and all the methods demonstrated have not worked.
What I've done so far is to to select my dynamic text field, click on "Embed" within the PROPERTIES area, choose the font and the weight, then add any of the foreign characters and/or glyphs to the "Also include these characters:" area then finish up and compile. When I run my SWF file, the glyphs and accented fonts are missing but all the other typical Latin characters show up.
I tried this same method in CS4 (because we have an old Mac in the office too), and almost the same thing happened except instead of completely missing out the glyphs and fonts, it showed a box (almost like an image placeholder) instead.
i have a problem with the line space flash creates when a dynamic text is loaded in a dynamic text field on the stage i put a dynamic textFild with istance name "profile_text". then im loadin in it a text. my text is written in the Notepad like this
[Code]...
i already set a Textformat to my dynamic text with i tryied to play with the "Leading".. but i think it something dealing with paragraph. how i can decrease spacing between paragraphs??
All I want to do is add text from my string to dynamic text field when I click dynamic buttons. What should the as code be for this? Here is my code. Right now I just have the click returning another shape.
What I'm trying to do is to write something in an input field and then it should show up in a dinamic field. I can make this happen, but the problem is that the dinamic field shows its new text in the same format as the Input field. For example, the input text is written in TimesNewRoman and the dinamic text is in Arial, but when the dinamic text shows the input, the text is still in TimesNewRoman when I want it to be in Arial.
I'm trying set a Boolean value based on whether anything has been entered in an Input Textfield. On the stage is a button and an Input text field. With the following code...
var isFilled:Boolean = false; btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, tryit); function tryit(event:MouseEvent){ if(testing.text == ""){ isFilled = false; trace("The field is blank"); }else{ isFilled = true; } trace(isFilled); trace(testing.text); }
When the button is pressed, isFilled is traced as true Regardless of whether there's anything in the text field. It seems like the first part of the conditional is being skipped.
