ActionScript 3 :: Loading Images By Making URLRequest To Local Folder?
Jul 8, 2010
I want to make an application that loads some images with a Loader by making URLRequests to a local folder. Can I build the application and include somehow this folder so when I send it from a server to a client the URLRequests operate normally on clients side? Also if this is possible, the folder may be not viewable/accessible by the client but only from the Flash application that comes with it? So for example, this piece of code that runs nicely, locally, to my machine, if i send it to a client will continue to run to its machine. Can somehow send the folder and the SWF as one object?
private function clothesOn( outfit:String ) {
var clothier:Loader = new Loader();
var item:String = "clothes/" + outfit + ".gif";
var getItem:URLRequest = new URLRequest( item );
clothier.load( getItem );
this.addChild( clothier );
}

I'm using a bulk image loader from FlashAndMath. The code has you send a list of images to load and it simultaneously attempts to load all at once, adding each load req to a list.
My problem is that when one doesn't load and throws an error, I don't know which load request failed. Are there built-in ways to get it to report what image it was trying to load, or at least which of the load requests threw the error? I tried doing an event.contentTarget.content.name and it reports an instance #, but not the name I tried assigning when I called the URLRequest.

I have a little Flash header and each time it loads I want it to load one of six images randomly, onto the stage as a background... The images will be sitting in a folder in the same directory as the Flash file so they can easily be updated, anyone ever done this?

I have a SWF file located at the local network in the public shared folder that I do not control over trying to read the external file on the local network.
I am currently hitting instead an security violation
Error #2148: SWF file file://....mySWF.swf cannot access local resource file://...config.xml"
I've added the network path where SWF an XML file resides to "trusted locations" via Flash Player Global Settings.
The added network path is successfully displayed at the list of "trusted locations" within Global Settings Manager, but it does not look like Flash Player is able to really parse the local network path as a "trusted location"

I am using Flash CS3 and Actionscript 2.0.I want to make a photo.jpg that is in my images folder load into a swf that is in a swf folder. It works fine when I have the photo.jpg in the same folder as the swf. But it does not work when I have the photo.jpg in a different folder. What must I do to the AS2 to make this happen? Here is the path: mcLoader.loadClip("swf/images/photo1.jpg",mcHolder);

I'm looking at writing an app with Adobe AIR, but I wanted to figure out if this is feasible with the platform first. (Mostly new to Flash and AIR).What I would like to do is know ahead of time what local port a URLRequest will be using. If possible, I would like to hold a connection open even and keep using the same socket.What I'm basically trying to accomplish is doing some NAT-Traversal and port negotiation ahead of time. Once I have both the client and the server negotiated, I'd like them to connect and basically use HTTP in a peer-to-peer way to stream media, like this sample:
var s = new air.Sound();
var url = "http://www.example.com/sounds/bigSound.mp3";
var req = new air.URLRequest(url); [code].........
The problem is that I don't see this happening unless I can get some information from AIR on what ports it's planning to use. I would be OK with creating my own Socket connections to the server and using them, but I would need a way to leverage the Sound framework to stream in the same way from a socket.

I have an AS3 swf which users can upload jpg images to my EC2 instances which sit behind and Elastic Load Balancer. The jpg images are converted into bytearray data and sent using URLLoader.load(URLRequest)I make 2 calls when uploading, one to upload a large version, then another to upload a thumbnail version. A PHP script to which the bytearray data is uploaded converts this to a file using file_put_contents($destination,$GLOBALS["HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA"])Is it possible to combine these two requests into a single request which contains both the bytearray data for the large and thumbnail images and 'split' the HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA to create 2 files at the server. This would be better than uploading the bytearray for the large version then using something like ImageMagick to resize the resulting image into a thumbnail which I realise is another option.

I am building a simple swf that will load in variables from an asp page using a URLloader and URLRequest. The asp page loads in the current values from a SQL database but these values will change every second. My swf loops every 6 frames and loads the data. How much load this puts on the server? And when the server is busy might this cause a problem with the variables I am reading in?
Does AS3 run all actions on frame 1 before going to frame 2 etc? I don't know if this is the best way but my last variable in the ASP page is called Loaded and I test for it before moving on. My major concern is the load I am putting on the website but is this small? In firefox the status box constantly flickers transferring data from ... and waiting .. but in other browsers you can't see the activity.

I have a slight issue generating a swf using the flash IDE. I can import c300 images via the 'Import To Stage' option but then the program crashes and dies as it runs out of memory.
Is there a way to create a swf by reading a folder of images? PHP is a possibility but the swf capabilities are limited.

I'm not sure what's going on...basically, I have a flash file that loads images from a xml file and this works fine without any problems. But when I try to load the swf file into html, the images only load if the html file is in the same folder as the swf.I'm not sure if this is related to a problem with the xml link in the swf file or something else... this is how the xml is being called from the swf:
Code:
xmlData = new XML();
xmlData.ignoreWhite = true;
[code]....
