ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading Random Images From A Folder
Feb 25, 2007
I have a little Flash header and each time it loads I want it to load one of six images randomly, onto the stage as a background... The images will be sitting in a folder in the same directory as the Flash file so they can easily be updated, anyone ever done this?

I want to make an application that loads some images with a Loader by making URLRequests to a local folder. Can I build the application and include somehow this folder so when I send it from a server to a client the URLRequests operate normally on clients side? Also if this is possible, the folder may be not viewable/accessible by the client but only from the Flash application that comes with it? So for example, this piece of code that runs nicely, locally, to my machine, if i send it to a client will continue to run to its machine. Can somehow send the folder and the SWF as one object?
private function clothesOn( outfit:String ) {
var clothier:Loader = new Loader();
var item:String = "clothes/" + outfit + ".gif";
var getItem:URLRequest = new URLRequest( item );
clothier.load( getItem );
this.addChild( clothier );
}

I am using Flash CS3 and Actionscript 2.0.I want to make a photo.jpg that is in my images folder load into a swf that is in a swf folder. It works fine when I have the photo.jpg in the same folder as the swf. But it does not work when I have the photo.jpg in a different folder. What must I do to the AS2 to make this happen? Here is the path: mcLoader.loadClip("swf/images/photo1.jpg",mcHolder);

i am using a slideshow template that I purchased and I wanted to get the images to load randomly, I contacted the author but he wants me to pay him extra for this and I have no money left for this project.basically, I'm looking to add a line to this as2 file that would make the images load randomly without repeating and then start over when the cycle completes. I tried putting in an array but it caused all kinds of errors.

I've recently inherited a project which needs to load random images from a dir on the server.
the previous developer has this code on every swf (there are over 40):
pic_arr = ["images/randoms/1", "images/randoms/2","images/randoms/3", "images/randoms/4", "images/randoms/5", .....
ranNum = Math.floor(Math.random()*pic_arr.length);
pic_hold.loadMovie(pic_arr[ranNum]+".jpg");
unloadMovieNum(1);
I need to update this as the number of random images is set to increase to about 1000 and I don't fancy hand coding the above to include "images/randoms/999" , "images/randoms/1000" !!! Where I can keep a single .as file on the server which handles this and then a line of code in each swf which imports it? The site is built in php with a Flash fornt end so easy to use php to count the contents of the "images/randoms" dir and pass that number as a flashVar.

I am developing an advertising site and the site has three seperate flash areas. on the top of the page i have created a movie clip and successfully managed to get the images to load randomly. GReat...Here is my dillema in the other three areas that consist of seperate movie clips i want to load images that have been numbered sequentially like p1.jpg etc... what i want to do is to have the images load randomly, and be positioned in the movie clip where i want them to appear dynamically... then if the user clicks onto the next set of images, i need to be able to tell whether one of the previous images has been displayed, if it has, not to show it again.

I'm trying to load random images every time the website is refreshed. I currently have some actionscript that makes my random image appear but it appears at the top left of the screen. and the movie continues to load the very first image in the layer. So I have 2 images loading and the random image is off center.
Here is the actionscirpt:
//imports
import caurina.transitions.Tweener;
//var
var _loader:Loader = new Loader;
var _pictureArray:Array = ["1.jpg", "2.jpg", "3.jpg", "4.jpg", "5.jpg", "6.jpg", "7.jpg", "8.jpg"];
[Code] .....
The foreground portrait is random and fades in but is in the wrong spot. All of my random images are centered in the layer. And the image in the background loads since it is the first image in the layer. but it shouldn't.

I have 2 different pieces of AS for my full flash homepage but i can't get them to work at the same time properly. This first piece is to load random images onto an array on my homepage.
Code:
var myImages = ["IMG_1318.jpg", "IMG_1316.jpg", "IMG_1317.jpg"];
var rand = random(myImages.length);
loadMovie(this.myImages[rand], container);
//trace("image loaded is "+this.myImages[rand]);
stop();
That part is currently working as intended. The problem is since the stop bit was added at the end my random image array works as intended but at the same time it also stops my clock. Here is the AS for my clock.
Code:
mytime = new Date();
s = mytime.getUTCSeconds();
m = mytime.getUTCMinutes();
h = mytime.getUTCHours();
[Code] .....
Is there something else simple I'm missing that will keep my clock working but not mess up my picture array?

I am definitely horrible at ActionScript'ing. So it's taking me a while to get anywhere.
I want to use a button to trigger random sounds (.wav & .mp3) from a folder. And is it possible to do this wihout taking into account the number of sounds in the folder (since there will be many and no set number). And is it possible to this without caking the file names into consideration?

What I'm trying to do is simple but I just can't seem to find a clear answer on how to accomplish this. I've loaded jpegs into my main movie before, but I've always created swf files of the jpegs with its own independent preloader on the first frame of the swf. This seems to work fine but it does get quite tedious having to create all of these swf's. I would like to beable to have a folder present on the server where I can just through in some random jpegs and the main movie will then show and hide a preloading bar showing the progression of the jpeg that is loading.

So i was advised I needed PHP to do this, (I know little about PHP) I got some space where PHP works! PHP enabled Right so at the moment I have a Movie Clip in flash with a piece of AS that says
[AS]onClipEvent (load) {
loadVariables("http://www.cppa.co.uk/t/test1.php", this, "GET");
filenames.split(":");[code]....
But when trying my php file through firefox its says (php file ."Parse error: parse error, unexpected '.' in c:websitesfreecrystalwww est1.php on line 5"
how to make this piece of PHP script send the flash the filenames of the directory, so flash can random insert on into a movie clip,

I have a slight issue generating a swf using the flash IDE. I can import c300 images via the 'Import To Stage' option but then the program crashes and dies as it runs out of memory.
Is there a way to create a swf by reading a folder of images? PHP is a possibility but the swf capabilities are limited.

I am trying to implement a random slideshow type thing which would be fine if all of the images were in the one folder, but i want to randomly display them from multiple folders... if I define each path as a variable, is that the easiest way?
ActionScript Code:
var pathaURL:String = "folder1/slideshow/";
var pathbURL:String = "folder2/slideshow/";
var pathcURL:String = "folder3/slideshow/";
and then somehow implement the randomness with the image variable...?

I'm not sure what's going on...basically, I have a flash file that loads images from a xml file and this works fine without any problems. But when I try to load the swf file into html, the images only load if the html file is in the same folder as the swf.I'm not sure if this is related to a problem with the xml link in the swf file or something else... this is how the xml is being called from the swf:
Code:
xmlData = new XML();
xmlData.ignoreWhite = true;

I'd like to tell a movie clip to look into a specific folder (via url or whatever) and load all images from that folder into the movie clip. I do not want to have to give the movie the exact address of each image, as they files may change / be added to over time.
i know in AS3 i have to use the loader class and then the addChild to put the loaded stuff into the movie (and thats all i know), but i just dont know how to get all available images blindly.

I want to create a flash app where the site owner can simply put images in a folder, and the flash app finds all the images in the folder, and will display a slide show from them.
Is there any way to list all files in a folder, so I can load them without prior knowledge of their names? I'd prefer not to have to tell a dumb customer what an XML file is and how to edit it, and also the images need to keep their original names so I can get titles for the images from the names.

I just want to count how many images in a folder.
.asp, php or any script, which can count no. of image in a folder, so that i can call that value to flash.
For now, i m doing this with the text file, but i manually have to enter a value for no. of images in that text file. Instead of that, I want that my script should count no. images in that folder.
