Allow User To Type A TAB Character In A Flex TextInput Control?

Dec 29, 2009

I want to modify the Flex 3 TextInput control to accept a tab character as valid input (The app allows the user to enter an arbitrary delimiter string for file output formatting, and tab is a common use case). However, clearly in the default implementation the tab key changes the form focus away from the selected control.

I have a TextInput field that should be restricted to either capital letters, lowercase letters, numbers and underscores. This is the code I'm trying to use to restrict characters:

restrict="A-Za-z½-9 \_-"

I'm using MXML for this Textinput component.

Unfortunately this does not restrict the character, which is the last character I'd like to restrict.

How can I add the backslash to the list of restricted characters?

Flex :: Change The Character In The TextInput In Password Mode?

Sep 2, 2009

I was just curious about the password mode display of the TextInput control in flex. The control displays asterisks instead of the characters themselves when the 'displayAsPassword' is set to true. Quoting the documentation,displayAsPassword If true, the field does not display entered text, instead, each text character entered into the control appears as the character "*".So, is there any way to change this displayed character, unless of course creating a custom component or extending the existing TextInput control?

Flex :: Setting Focus On A Popup's TextInput Control?

Jul 27, 2010

I'm trying to have a popup window with an immediately editable TextInput. This means that the user should be able to type inside the TextInput once the popup is displayed.

The problem is that I can't focus on the textInput. What happens is that when pressing a key for the first time, no text is inserted, only after a second key is pressed does the component gain focus and the user is able to type. For instance, typing "test" once the popup opened results in "est" being displayed...

For some reason the component only gains focus when the user explicitly clicks on it or types something. Programmaticaly setting the focus does not work.

Code:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Panel xmlns="mog.miss.component.*" xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" >
<mx:Script>

Actionscript 3.0 :: User Inputted Text: Determining If A Specific Character Is C?

May 4, 2010

I'm creating a learning activity for one of our biology classes. The basis of the activity is to test students ability to transcribe and translate DNA into other sequences.I have a dynamic text field where the student would type in a 36 character sequence.

I already know that I can use an if statement to see if all 36 characters are correct. I was wondering if there was a way to individually check each letter the student typed in is the correct one for that line. So if UUAACCGG is the correct answer, I want flash to check and see if the third character is indeed A or not.I know I can do this with 36 individual text boxes, but I was kind of hoping to get away with just one big text box.

Professional :: User Input To Control Animations?

Oct 25, 2011

I have an idea for a simple game/program and not sure if Flash is the way to go.After reading many articles I've come to the conclusion that if I wanna make my idea a reality then I need to do it myself but not sure where to start.Before spending the money on buying cs 5.5 want to make sure it can do what I need.So my question is can you have users input data that would then control your animations?
For a simple example:I want a user to be able to input a number then depending on the number a certain animation sequence would occur.So say a user inputs the number 10 then my animation would walk over to a pile of say apples and pick up 10 apples.  If they input 5 the animation would pick up 5 apples etc...So my idea has nothing to do with apples but revolves around the user inputting numerical data which would then control what the animations do.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Control User's Computer Performance?

Oct 8, 2009

I've made a Flash project which uses a lot of animations based on Actionscript, and I've checked that in old computers those animations have a low framerate.So in order to optimize it, I thought to disable some of them depending on the capabilities of the user's computer, but the only thing I've found which could be useful is the property System.totalMemory

Is there any way to calculate the user's CPU performance in order to act in consequence?In these cases, would it be useful to replace some vector graphics with bitmaps? If I'm not wrong it would make use of more memory but would lower CPU charge, wouldn't it?
