Im new to placing external data into Flash. I just got CS3 and Im trying to use Flash to dynamically load XML data via a FlashVars call in the HTML.
The problem is I have followed the very straight forward AS2 Help files for using FlashVars and URL variables.I have placed the code directly from the Help file into the Html between
<noscript> <noscript>and i keep getting undefined.I have tried saving the file as flash 8 and i am publish flash 8.
I would like my flash to act differently depending on what html page it is on. Can I send information from html code to action script?

I am trying to load an external XML file and then output select pieces of data (location data) based on mouseover events on different objects (images of provinces). Something is wrong with my attempt to put data from the XML into the text objects I created. I think it is finding the file because when I remove the file, it balks, and when the file is present, it stops balking. But it keeps saying "Access of undefined property" or other things along the lines of "This thing is empty". My guess is that the syntax is wrong in the area below which I marked with an "ERROR HERE" comment.[code]...

However, I need to get the XML data into a (JSP) session and can't neccesarily have an external XML file--any suggestions? Can I put the XML string into a hidden input field in a form on the HTML? Can Flash communicate with that HTML? Or are one of the below methods recommended:

* Web services
* JavaScript - call JS function
* fscommand
* ExternalInterface

Whenever I output the xml data, it still brings out the xml tags but on the second row it shows the elements.

View 1 RepliesI have an AS3 swf which users can upload jpg images to my EC2 instances which sit behind and Elastic Load Balancer. The jpg images are converted into bytearray data and sent using URLLoader.load(URLRequest)I make 2 calls when uploading, one to upload a large version, then another to upload a thumbnail version. A PHP script to which the bytearray data is uploaded converts this to a file using file_put_contents($destination,$GLOBALS["HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA"])Is it possible to combine these two requests into a single request which contains both the bytearray data for the large and thumbnail images and 'split' the HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA to create 2 files at the server. This would be better than uploading the bytearray for the large version then using something like ImageMagick to resize the resulting image into a thumbnail which I realise is another option.
View 1 Replies1) The file stageSizeTest.fla is a simple file that outputs the dimensions of the stage. As you can see if you open the file, it's 900x550.The trace statement is the same in the onResize function as well as outside of it, but when I run the file, this is the output I get:
Stage size is now 900 by 450
Stage size is now 900 by 550 FROM onResize
Note, however, that if I run the SWF again by pressing ctrl+enter again, i get the correct output:
Stage size is now 900 by 550
(because I didn't change the size of the stage, the FROM onResize one doesn't run, obviously).
2) the patternTest.fla file is simply a variation of the code posted by TheCanadian in his tiling patterns tutorial on this site. Don't actually mind the code in here so much as I'm just really testing something, not trying to write awesome code.
if you run the fla, you will see that the output is all great, shows the tiled bg and the black square on top.now, run the included patternTest.html file.this file was simply published out of Flash with no changes made to it.As you can see,the patternTest.html file outputs the swf, with the black square, but the tiled background is missing.
I've developed a small Flash [8] slideshow of ten 4x6 jpgs,optimized it, published it, and inserted it into a Dreamweaver [8]basic XHTML-compliant page, saved the page and previewed it in a variety of browsers. It works perfectly.Then I FTP'd it along with other files and photos for the site. and tested it out on the same browsers: everything EXCEPT the slideshow now works perfectly; there's not a trace of the ss.What am I doing wrong? I've retraced all of my steps several times -- I even re-FTP'd it -- all with the same result.

not to bad, so now your html is loading the swf with the url variable. the problem is this data is hard coded into the html.now for the question. how do i get the html to pass the url variable it receives onto the flash?

We have implemented a Flash photo slideshow on our site and it works just fine for most of our users. Whenever the xml.load(success) returns false I have the Flash email me a debug report. For the life of me I can not find a common thread between all of these people having problems with the Flash. I don't think it's a cross-domain issue because it works for most people, and I have the crossdomain.xml files where they should be.
