how to show output data in a text area. I'm making a logger of variables being sent from a game. I notice the output records all the data. But, when I make it into standalone, there isn't a output. How do you show the data in from the output into a text area on the layer.

I'm used to using SoundMixer.computeSpectrum, but I need to get some data on-the-fly from the microphone (and I can't use the SoundMixer with the microphone).
I'm having trouble translating the FFT data (from this class) as shown in this excellent spectral analysis example to match the ByteArray output from computeSpectrum. My existing code is built to handle the data received from computeSpectrum (with FFT set to true).

I know is a simple tasks but I'm really desperate cause I just test several ways, including external classes without results. With this code, I can get the value of the button, but I need to get the input text field userName. I suppose that I need to pass the value of input text to String, but I don't how!

The thing is that I have an ActionScript 3.0 application, and wanted to include a little one-line size textbox which showed all the trace() calls and such, which are shown in the console.
Of course not everything is lost, as I could just do my own class that showed there the messages, but it would be cleanier, and quicker not to have to replace all the trace() calls for my new class and method.
I have inserted a TextArea component and i can add text normally by changing it in the parameters tab. but i was wondering if anyone knew the code so i can make it show and input text field ? (call a .txt file in to the TextArea component)

View 2 RepliesI am trying to load an external XML file and then output select pieces of data (location data) based on mouseover events on different objects (images of provinces). Something is wrong with my attempt to put data from the XML into the text objects I created. I think it is finding the file because when I remove the file, it balks, and when the file is present, it stops balking. But it keeps saying "Access of undefined property" or other things along the lines of "This thing is empty". My guess is that the syntax is wrong in the area below which I marked with an "ERROR HERE" comment.[code]...
View 7 RepliesOk, so I've read up on the TextArea class in Livedocs, and i've been looking at XML explanations and their implementation into Flash for about a week. I've tried this EXACT code on another Flash document, except on the main stage instead of embedded inside of a
separate movie clip, and it worked perfectly. Can anyone explain why the text won't display in the TextArea? Does it have something to do with it being inside of a movieclip and that being placed on the Main Stage? (By the way, proxy.xml is just a copy of the xml produced by my CFM proxy for easier usage, in case you were wondering.

I realize that my regex has no issue if I hand-type my data into the textarea, but issues arise when I paste from external sources.
I wonder, is there any setting on Textarea that I forgot to set so that the newline character is trimed upon my paste?

I'm trying to build a flash component for my upcoming website where I have to read data from a XML file and show these with a fading 5 second interval - I guess you could call it an image-fader/content-fader or some such :-) Before I post my code I would like to let you know that my experience with AS3 is quite limited as I've always been working with Silverlight (C#) instead.

Whenever I output the xml data, it still brings out the xml tags but on the second row it shows the elements.

I'm having an issue with TextFormat tags that are appearing in textfields. Here's an overview of what I'm doing: Basically, I'm trying to grab the text from a textArea component: (myText = myTextArea.text")
Because I want to retain formatting, I have the textArea set to be html. Thus, myText becomes the text you see below
So the myText data is then stored in XML, but later when I try to access it, it fills that same textArea component with the literal code rather than the formatted text. How do I take that TextFormat string and convert it back to it's original form? I've
