ActionScript 3.0 :: Malformed Data From Clipboard To Textarea?
Feb 17, 2012
I have an unstructured multiline string to parse in Flash (not csv, not xml, just plain text) I want to be able to separate my multiline plain text into lines of text as a starting point. I realize that my regex has no issue if I hand-type my data into the textarea, but issues arise when I paste from external sources.
I wonder, is there any setting on Textarea that I forgot to set so that the newline character is trimed upon my paste?
[Code]...
It turns out that parsing it may not be the problem, but the fact that my data may have been malformed when I paste from clipboard might be the real root cause. Does anyone have any suggestion in how to solve this problem? Should I perhaps make a paste handler to ensure data's integrity?

I realize that there is an issue with pasting from Clipboard to Textarea. The newline characters from original content would be lost once they reach Textarea.
It looks like following in text editor, plaint text mode:
var1 hi var2 hi2 var3 h3
But when I copy it out of Flash after pasting them into it, the data becomes like following
var1 hivar2 hi2var3 h3
This is also the output if I use trace to look at the data in Textarea after pasting. It turns out that parsing algorithm may not be the problem, but the fact that my data may have been malformed when I paste from clipboard might be the real root cause. To Save data to Clipboard, we use System.setClipboard(); But i don't know how to get data from it. I search in google and someone said that we can do it by installing AIR, but i think it is not a good solution
I am building a request in Flash that contains a JSON encoded Array of Objects. This is encoded using as3corelib. The request is then passed to JavaScript via ExternalInterface and a jquery ajax call sends the request off to the server. In PHP, the incoming data is parsed, but the json_decode returns null, giving a Malformed JSON error. var_dump results in comments:
<?php (isset($_POST['gdata']) && !empty($_POST['gdata'])) ? $gamedata = $_POST['gdata'] : returnError("game data not specified"); var_dump($gamedata);[code]............
What I don't understand is that attempting to decode the variable returns null, but the same text decoded from a literal string works fine. What can I do to clean up the incoming data and make it readable for json_decode?
Edit: php_info() says that magic_quotes_gpc is enabled. Could that be the issue?
Ok, so I've read up on the TextArea class in Livedocs, and i've been looking at XML explanations and their implementation into Flash for about a week. I've tried this EXACT code on another Flash document, except on the main stage instead of embedded inside of a separate movie clip, and it worked perfectly. Can anyone explain why the text won't display in the TextArea? Does it have something to do with it being inside of a movieclip and that being placed on the Main Stage? (By the way, proxy.xml is just a copy of the xml produced by my CFM proxy for easier usage, in case you were wondering.
So I'm trying to make a Vertical 3D Carousel using Flash CS3, ActionScript 3, a program called TweenMax, and some XML. The site I got a tutorial from is a dead site, there.
Here's the error I'm getting: TypeError: Error #1090: XML parser failure: element is malformed. at outrageouslycooltitlescreennoerrors_fla::MainTimeline/xmlLoaded() at
how to show output data in a text area. I'm making a logger of variables being sent from a game. I notice the output records all the data. But, when I make it into standalone, there isn't a output. How do you show the data in from the output into a text area on the layer.
I'm having an issue with TextFormat tags that are appearing in textfields. Here's an overview of what I'm doing: Basically, I'm trying to grab the text from a textArea component: (myText = myTextArea.text")
Because I want to retain formatting, I have the textArea set to be html. Thus, myText becomes the text you see below
So the myText data is then stored in XML, but later when I try to access it, it fills that same textArea component with the literal code rather than the formatted text. How do I take that TextFormat string and convert it back to it's original form? I've tried myTextArea.htmlText
Unfortunately, when I start placing text in this text area. Either through code or user input, the text will be placed on a new line after about 80-100 pixels. Yet I want it to start a new line after 320 pixels (it's length).
Is it possible to save text of textarea in some variable or so and with its textformat (more than one color) and then reuse it to replace text in textarea?
I tried saving htmlText of textarea but the problem is when i replace it in textarea <p> tags causes problem. There will always be another extra line.

If anyone wants to view p tags problem try following. Just click on text and then move your down arrow key, cursor will go to next line.
Is there a way to use a button to emulate the print screen button on the keyboard?I'm trying to "capture" what is showing in the projector...I've found keypress stuff, understand how to do that, just can't find anything on print screen.
I'm hoping someone has done some research into the possibility of being able to paste an OS clipboard image (say from a screen grab) into an SWF file (one that would be running on a web page)?
Is there a way to make a button in flash that will paste the contents of the clipboard into a text field?I need to be able to click a button and have that sentence appear in a text field in my flash movie.
I have an in-house application that is populating several HTML rows with text that needs to be copied. I already have that text being sent to my flash movie as a variable via Javascript. I also have a button that when clicked will copy those formatted lines of text in the method required for pasting into a different, unrelated application. The button method for
Code: System.setClipboard(myTextField) works just fine.
However, per "instructions" I need to establish a keyboard shortcut that fires the same "setClipboard" action. Currently, I am using External Reference to apply a javascript key combo capture that attempts to call the function within the Flash movie to set the clipboard. However, placing that setClipboard inside of the function called via javascript doesn't work. The setClipboard action only seems to work when attached to the button.
I know there are restrictions with the newer flash player requiring user interaction with the movie to access the clipboard, but is there any way to simulate the button click or package the setClipboard action in a function that will allow this to work? This is an in-house application so the actual security issues are not as prevalent.
This is what I have in place currently. I know the javascript communication works, as I have been able to send commands such as:
I want to set the clipboard to be a specific string. I've read about Flash's hack and the ability to hijack the clipboard + Adobe fixing this. I just wanted to know if I would have any problems if an end user has a Flash 10 player? What I could do with my solution is to simply pass in a variable via Flashvars + when a button I have on stage is clicked, will copy the Flashvars value to the clipboard: System.setClipboard(myFlashVarVariable); I just thought I'd ask anyway - the last thing I would want is something that worked perfectly in my environment that didn't work for all end users!

I have control bar buttons Copy, Cut, and Paste and they suppose to copy/paste some text/objects from and to clipboard.Copy/Cut works fine.Paste using CTRL+V and context menu works fine as well. But when I'm trying to access Clipboard via control bar button click handler it throws error

Is there a way to Get the print screen image from the keyboard. Say for example I had a image hosting site and wanted a feature where users could paste in an image and simply host it that way. would that be possible? EDIT: Would it be possible with some sort of third party plugin? Are there any existing Firefox plugins which do something similar?
I am loading a external swf in to a movieclip.. now i need to copy and paste the text available inside the external swf. i tried with setclipboard method to copy the text inside that, but it is not working for me..i have attached the code for your reference..
