Database :: Using Remote PHP Service With Flex AIR Application?
Feb 16, 2010
I'm developing a Adobe AIR application using Flash Builder 4. This app needs to access a remote PHP service which is being hosted on a remote web server. I am having troubles figuring out how to add a PHP data service which uses a remote service. I can add the PHP data service in Flash Builder as a service hosted on localhost, but given that this will not be feasible when the application is deployed, will not work. How to connect a Flash Builder (Flex) project to a remote PHP data service?
I am creating a flex collection in which as model I have an array collection of slides. Each of the slide has a set of objects like array of images , array of captions etc . I want to pass these slides to the web service coded using asp.net and C# , from where it will be saved to a sql server db. Is there a way to send the image Array directly to the web service or I have to send each of the image separately by making as many calls to the web service as the number of images in the array .
In general what would be the most efficient way to send these array of slides and the associated objects to the web service so that they could be stored in the database ?
Is there a way to display or log verbose communication DURING a remote service call with flex? In particular is there a way to get very detailed information about the service call while it is happening. Kind of like tracing HTTP headers from a command line. Basically, getting insight into the server transaction before the result or fault events occur?
I am assuming there must be a convenient way to expose stuff like IP addresses, DNS lookups, number of hops, latency, HTTP headers, AMF data as it is coming over the wire, etc.
I found at this Adobe tutorial a nice "RemoteService" class that creates a RemoteObject and contains the functions for handling the result and fault events. If I wanted to use this approach, how could I pass the data from the result handler to interfaces that modules from the main application could use?
I could put the RemoteService/RemoteObject in the modules, but (in my opinion- and I could be wrong) the best design seems to be using the remote calls in the main app and passing the data along to the modules.
I am planning to develop a standalone application, which infact will be used for personal purposes. So only single user access may be there. I want to develop it in Flex. Just want some opinions from the gurus over here : Whether i should use Flex or AIR (I know only Flex, AIR i need to start learning)Which database i should use? SQLLite or HSQLDB or some other.
I want to store images from the flex application to a asp net web service and at a later point will be sending these images back to flex application . Can you please give a example web method in c# or suggest a website to read about how to do this.
I'm not sure if this is technically a web service or not but I have a Flash file that periodically needs to make a round trip to a DB. As it stands, AS3 uses the URLLoader class to exchange XML with an ASP.NET/VB file on the server. The aspx code then goes to the DB and returns whatever information is requested back to the Flash file.As my program grows and I need to execute a larger variety of tasks on the server, I'm wondering if I should just keep placing functions in that same aspx file and specify in AS3 which function I should load for any given task. OR, is it better to break up my functionality into several different aspx files and call the appropriate file for the task? Are there any obvious pros and cons to either method that I should consider?
Is it possible to develop flex/Air application as a service. The application doesn't require any GUI it should run as service in embedded Linux/Linux/Windows.
I will be releasing my Air/Flex application soon, but I am pretty sure there are a couple of bugs that may pop up on the various platforms that Air is available for. So I was wondering if there is a way to implement a mechanism, that would send an error report, logging where the error happened, to a remote server each time an app crashes? This way I might catch errors that otherwise would go unnoticed.
I'd like my users to be able to easily navigate their files, which live on my server. Is there an obvious / built in way to build the front end for this in Flex? My ideal scenario would be to have something that looks like the local file browser - but I'm pretty sure that's not an option (although I'd love to be wrong)
I am able to port much of my application from Flex 35 to Flex 4.0
Next is to show my current system Operating system name (XP Pro, Vista, Linux..etc) along with the service pack level of my system on which my application is running.
I am able to show uo OS name "Windows XP" using "Capabalities.os" in Flex4.0. but not "Professional" or "Pro" exactly. But I could not find an API for showing up the service pack level.
I have to display the content in a label. I tried with Capabilities.cpuArchitecture and System.vmversion, but it shows up some other system data.
I'd like to create a remote object service class such that I can encapsulate multiple service operations. These service calls get executed in many places and it would be nice to encapsulate their functionality. For example, something like
I need to develop the HTTPS application using Flex and Java. But i have idea about remote objects or HTTPServices. which one is the best for developing HTTPS application.
I seem to be getting the following error when I try to access a Remote Java class (on Spring/BlazeDS) from the Flex/Cairngorm application. I am going crazy at the moment trying to see what is wrong
I am trying to develop an application which can be used locally by my team mates. its a sort of issue tracking application with report generation. am planning to do it on flex. in my company environment, i do have a lots of restrictions like, can't install AIR, no database, etc.
so am planning to develop on flex app, and put it in a shared drive. now the main problem is how can i store data. i have an idea like using excel files as database. I want opinion about this option, as well as, if anyone has tried reading and writing excel files from Flex application I want the suggestions also.
I have a mobile application that uses an sqlite database. I cannot seem to figure out how to access the next record when the user presses the 'next' button. My database is using 'id' as primary key with autoincrement as integer.
private function nextMoveRPart(event:EffectEvent):void { var cardNumber:int = parseInt(cardNumberLabel.text);
I need to make my Flash application create a connection to a remote application and have the remote application send periodic updates to my Flash animation. The remote app is written in VB 6, and does not support XML sockets. However, I don't need the ability to send or receive XML since I am going to be overriding the onLoad() event anyway.
Or maybe I do need that ability... I'm having trouble getting my onLoad() event to trigger. Right now I'm just testing the onLoad event like this:
[code]...
So, basically I'm trying to find out how I can format the data I'm sending it so that the onLoad() event triggers. I've read that the XMLSocket object listens for the Null byte, so perhaps the data I'm sending it doesn't terminate properly. I need a persistent connection from Flash to the VB app because the VB app will be the one initiating the updates to the Flash application. Is the XMLSocket the way to go here, or is there another class of objects that I'm missing?
I am currently working on software for student attendance. I use the flex / flash and php to create the software but I faced a problem barcode scanner, can not connect to the application to call the data from the database when students scan the barcode printed on their student card.
I am experiencing a strange problem when I want to bind a service to a button or something else:
[Code]...
I can add the services to the Data Services panel but I have two strange things:
1) when I want to configure the return type he doesn't let me create a new ValueObject type, I only get the bottom datagrid which states: Properties returned by the operation: Property: country_Id, provence_Id, city_Id, id_cdpc, district_Id with the related values on the right side. Why can't I create a new data type on the top?
2) When I accept this and want to add the service call to a button (drag&drop) I get the following error: Error occurred while generating code. Make sure that there are no compiler eroors and try again after reopening the file. Componentn type services.cdpc.CDPC not found... (ps: When I perform a Test Operation everything seems to be ok, I get the expected output values)
I've a flash facebook application, i can take the session info from flash client and send the session information to server.
I need to check if the user connected to the server via facebook application or not. That's why i need to get the user's session from facebook page directly by my server.
How can i do it? I use C# for all database and communication system. Flash interface does only application responsibilities.
I want to create a Flex 3 application running in Adobe Air that accesses an SQLite database and I need to keep this database in sync with an SQL server 2005 database running a website. Is this something that Flex supports or is it going to be a custom script? Also, has anybody done anything like this?
Edit: The synchronisation can be done on a daily basis rather than real time. The data will be read only from a front end perspective with a CMS to do updates on the website.
I have researched this issue all over and most people say use the .refresh() method to update a datagrid after updating or adding a new record. This does not do anything. So, my issue is this. I have a mySQL database hosted I am connecting via PHP, I have 1 mxml file and 2 php files (I know I can use just 1 but I am learning and this was easier for me to use for troubleshooting). The issue is no matter what I change on the datagrid the update does not show on the datagrid unless I close out of IE and reopen it. I can refresh or open the page in another window and the update does not show. I have to exit entirely and restart in order for any updates or additions to show. Here is my licenseTracker.mxml
I have updated the mxml code to only show the needed code for the program to run the update.
I am new to Flex and have an issue I hope you all can help me out with.

I am planning on using Flash Builder 4/Flex to write an AIR application which is primarily based around recording, storing and analyzing data.I'll be creating charts etc that need to update in almost real time. It's essential to me that the application be able to function without an internet connection so I need a local database of some variety, but I would also eventually like to build in online synchronization of the data where either database can be update each other based on newer information. Moreover, some type of encryption would definitely be welcome, and speed is a large concern
Synchronization: Primarily updates/additions/deletions will be done on the offline database, but ideally I want to have a web interface that will allow the same updates/additions/deletions and will be synced (beyond that I'm not sure exactly how to do it as I can model that based on what is most achievable).I'm wondering if there's any prebuilt engine that could handle the synchronization of 2 databases. I may end up having the web interface only be for additions, which would be significantly easier to sync.. and I may start that way, but i want to build with technologies that will best allow me to implement full online crud at some point.
Here is the issue: a client wants his entire equipment inventory accessible by persons navigating to his jquery mobile site. The inventory that exists on the desktop site was, as I understood, built with Flex. Is it possible to access this database for the jquery mobile site? I believe it is. I was then given this information from someone in the know:
