My question is, how can I pass the variable so that the resulting line of code doesn't have the quotes around the variable value.

For example call the function flashFunction(foo);
Does this require a listener in Flash that listens for the call, excepts "foo" and then calls the flashFunction and passes "foo" to it?
Can this be called directly without a listener?
I went to pass a variable to an ASP page, the ASP will filter a recordset based on that value. I want the results of that filter to be passed back to my Flash page. I am, of course, using LoadVars() in the following way:

I have a an unobtrusive flash video looping in the background of a website, it is not essential to navigation - it is purely cosmetic.The flash video loops every 30 seconds.As this video is on all pages, it jumps back to the start when a new page is loaded.Is there an actionscript / javascript way to get it to remember the position it got to on the old page so it can start there on the new page?I do know that this can be accomplished by loading the flash movie in a frame as well as by having the subsequent pages load the contents in AJAX but I was hoping not to go down this route.I have seen other people ask the question and allude to the solution but they only posted that they got it to work without saying how.

The user clicks a button and my slick little eye candy flash movie has a secondary navigation list slide down while any buttons underneath slide down as well. Then when you click on another button it slides back up and the new button's secondary nav slides down. nuff said.what I would like to have happen is that when a user clicks on a secondary nav button and a new html page loads, I would like it to appear that the secondary nav slider has stayed down on the newly loaded html page.this means passing some kind of variable to my flash movie so that it can tell which page the user is on and react (go to a particular frame)

Basically, i'm going to retrieve the values of a node from xml. and then i will assign those values to a variable in flash. now what i'm going to do next is pass this value to a javascript parameter..is it done using externalinterface?

I am attempting to get Flash - Javascript communication working using ExternalInterface.addCallback, using code found at http:[url].... I am trying to pass parameters into Flash using a javascript function, but it only works if I insert a 'window.alert' line into the code. Once I click OK, the parameter str is passed into Flash ok. The function is:

If I remove the window.alert, str isn't passed into Flash. Is this a browser speed thing? A value menu is passed out of Flash using getURL("index.php?pageID=239&menu=tools"), i.e. the page reloads and a php script sends the appropriate str value to the sendToFlash javascript function based upon the value of menu.
I have a flash player embedded on page x.php?user=john using swfobject. The player calls the xml file content.php to get the results. in content.php i have $_GET['user']. I'm trying to get the user name from the url id and fetch results based on that. I'm however getting a 500 error. I don't think content.php is able to access the user variable. if i just put in the username "john" instead of $_GET['user'] then it works. How can i get this to work with $_GET['user']

I want to take that newly created image, base64 encode it then pass it to a JavaScript function. I want to put a variable at the end of a URL and have Flash "find" that variable. The url would be: [URL] "Campbell" is the variable I want to pass to Flash. I then have this script in the root timeline:

I want "agent" to be replaced with Campbell. That way I can have it read a bunch of variables from the txt file. I tried this as well:

View 2 RepliesI have a flash application written in actionscript 2.0 that shows vector architectural maps and works perfectly on common web browsers. There are many interactions with javascript functions called by user events on the webpage, such as zooming to a certain x,y point. This event is usually accomplished via the mouse wheel.
Now I have to make sure that the thing works on tablet pc, in particular the Galaxy Tab. The first thing I have to fix is that, obviously, there is no mouse wheel and the user naturally tries to pinch zoom the flash application, with the result of zooming the entire web browser.
What I need is to listen to the multitouch gesture and, when a pinch zoom event is called, disable the default zooming event and call a javascript/flash function that allows my flash app to zoom only the objects that need to be zoomed: in few words, the browser stays still and only a part of the flash zooms in or out.
I already have working javascript functions to call flash object functions for the zooming purpose, so I just need to connect them to some android things that tell me when the user tries to pinch zoom in and when he tries to pinch zoom out (and possibly the x,y point of zoom).
i am wanting to know how much I can be sure that users of my website will not be able to pass bogus variables to my Flash movie. Basically I will have some features available to certain users and I realise that for the average user they will not know anything about how to send spoof vars but is it possible for someone to change the variables sent using SWFObject when a page loads and thus be able to use the functionality that I am trying to disable for them.I have a PHP (my_flash_movie.php) page that calls a function from an included globals.php file to determine if the user can see the restricted functionality is_ user_a_subscriber($_SESSION['user_id']); which returns 1 or 0. This 1 or 0 is then passed to Flash which enables or disables certain features. I dont want someone to be able to send a 1 instead of a 0 basically. This isnt a site where security is critical and the functionality that is disabled is not really critical either so wouldnt be too bad if this happened but im just curious about this and wondering if I should think of another way to pass these vars that might be more hidden.
