Flex :: Injecting Data And Mediating Events In Modules With Swiz

Since my application is getting bigger, I decided to fragment my project into several modules, but the documentation from Swiz on Modules is very poor [URL]. I tried out the Swiz Examples [URL] but I couldn't inject any data into my module or even catch an event. The module is loaded properly however.
Ideally I will end up having multiple Flex-Projects, each containing one module and each .swf file is deployed into the application deploy folder. However if you aren't familiar with a structure like that, but instead you know how to inject data/event mediating into a module inside the same Flex project.
Inspired by this Flex question, is it seen as better practice to dispatch an event back to the parent app, as opposed to calling a method on the instance of the parent app, from within a module? To me it seems that the module shouldn't know what methods are available at the parent, as such approach leads to tight coupling.
I found at this Adobe tutorial a nice "RemoteService" class that creates a RemoteObject and contains the functions for handling the result and fault events. If I wanted to use this approach, how could I pass the data from the result handler to interfaces that modules from the main application could use?
I could put the RemoteService/RemoteObject in the modules, but (in my opinion- and I could be wrong) the best design seems to be using the remote calls in the main app and passing the data along to the modules.
Is model injection on the fly possible? In other words,if I ask for a model of the type IPhotoModel, I should get one of its implementations based on the current state of the view. If I am looking at a UserPage,I should get a user-specific implementation of that model.I am looking at a LocationPage,I should get a location-specific implementation.Currently, the only way that I see is introducing a command that specifies the model mapping, with a concrete one based on the current view state ...
injector.mapValue(IPhotoViewModel, injector.getInstance(UserPhotoViewModel)) or injector.mapValue(IPhotoViewModel, injector.getInstance(LocationPhotoViewModel))
is this the best way possible? I do not really want to introduce much coupling logic outside of the context, but ...
I just started using Swiz, and, it seems like Swiz forces you to create classes with weak encapsulation. Swiz requires all event handlers to be public in order to mediate events.
Assume that component 'A' dispatches a few events, which I want to listen to in component 'B'. Traditionally, I'll just add event listeners on 'A' in 'B' and all the event handlers in 'B' can be kept private. However, if, I am using Swiz, I need to make all the handlers, mediating events, public.
I have a PresentationModel AS class that holds all the values used in SomeView.mxml. The entire class for the model is bindable, and the model property in the view is also bindable. However, I am unable to inject the model into the view using the PropertyInjector tag:

I'm trying to set up the swiz framework in flex but cant seem to get it to compile. Im using swiz 0.6.2 and flex 3.0.2. The swc is in the libs directory of my flex project. Im following the tutorial here:[URL] and my code looks like:

Currently, I'm looking into application frameworks to build upon and I'm torn between pureMVC and Swiz. I LOVE swiz for its simplicity and how it just gives you a way to hook things up and then apply your own patterns. From a flex-only perspective, this is my 1st choice. But, PureMVC is platform-independent and has already been ported over to most of the platforms that are mentioned above. How valuable is this portability? Will it really make our lives significantly easier when it comes to porting and developing/maintaining multiple applications? If so, then it seems like PureMVC is the way to go.
Alternatively, since Silverlight has the most definite business case for porting of our application, maybe we could port Swiz to Silverlight? I'm not too familiar with which AS3 language and Flex framework features Swiz depends on and whether they are available in C#/Silvelright.
I'm trying to implement a popup window (NativeWindowType.UTILITY) in an AIR 2.7 application that uses Swiz for dependency injection.I have followed the Swiz guidelines that I've been able to find, and implemented ISwizAware on the class that creates the window, and I am calling _swiz.registerWindow() before opening the window, and dependency injection works fine on the window itself after this.
However, the problem I am running into is that I have a child view within that window, and I have a mediator that uses the [ViewAdded] and [ViewRemoved] tags. Neither the view added nor view removed functions are triggering. I'm thinking the issue is either:
The child view is not correctly registering with Swiz.The swiz instance doesn't know about the beans (I have tried manually adding the bean however, which didn't have any effect).The ViewAdded and ViewRemoved metadata tags simply aren't working because each NativeWindow object has its own stage instance.
My company is willing to reffactor its biggest and heaviest project introducing some kind of framework. Are there good online source/issue/blogpost with comparison of these 3 frameworks - Robotlegs, Swiz and Mate?
I am working in Flex3. Here I have a datagrid which contains data. some columns are editable. when the user changes the column data web service is called. Here using function of focusOut, I am calling the web service by sending the data which comes from the datagrid through focusOut function. Now I want to call the web service when the user changes the column data and presses keyboard key 'Enter'. Here I can call function but the event does not carry datagrid's data to the function being called.
I would like to track the customer experience in downloading and initializing my flex app.
(a) Is there a way to pass data from preloader to the application? I would like to pass the time it takes to download and the time it takes to initialize.
(b)Alternatively: Is there an event at the application level that corresponds to the preloader events:
1. Download complete
2. Initialization complete (same as Application creationComplete)
I have a data grid and there's a method attached to clicking on any item in a row of the grid.Now, some of the items in the table row are also buttons. Each of these are associated with a different action.We only want one of these actions to be performed.[code]we have currently a member variable to track which selection was made and to ignore the the contents of the other method (the else portion of the method resets this value).Now, if the methods just happen to execute in a different order (or at the same time), the behavior will be unpredictable.Is the member variable flag the way to do this (it smells so bad)?
We´re developing an ASP MVC application witch the View (aspx) has a Flex embed. This aspx/flex view is composed by a flex application and several modules. when we call the application url [URL] the server invoke the method the will return the ActionResult that represents this action, in this case the ~/Views/Flex/Index.aspx (with the Flex app). However when the ModuleLoader, in the Flex application, try to load a module an error occurs. The problem is that the Flex application can´t directly access the modules folder (~/Views/Flex/modules/module.swf). Are there any way to get the module through an ASP MVC action? Or the best approach is to allow the access to this folder through web.config?
I have two mx:TileList controls that I'm using to allow editing of objects in batch. The first contains a collection of all available data, and the 2nd contains the current batch. Both are bound to ArrayCollections, and using the native drag-n-drop functionality of the TileList control the data is moved from one ArrayCollection to the other when an object is dragged between them.
I need to change the currentState to show & reset the batch manipulation controls when the batch count goes from 0 to n or n to 0 items. Based on the documentation, I would have thought that I should listen to the dragComplete event, but my testing shows that instead of firing after the data has been removed from the source ArrayCollection and added to the destination ArrayCollection, it fires (consistently) between these two actions.
I'm writing a simple small context media platform. It is mainly based on so called HTTP Pseudostreaming, where I mediate the media file using a php script. This is used for checking access to the file, and for linking to the correct directory. In the following the basic parts of my code:
We are building a fairly complex application that we need to be able to release different parts of at different times. To help us solve this problem we are using RSLs and Modules.so let me describe the projects (names have been changed to protect the innocent)[code]We have one application client that loads the areas of the application as modules. We have a core RSL that does things like login and holds entitlements and provides an API for the modules to access this sort of state and also to communicate with each other.
When we load client we only want the core rsl to be loaded as that is that is currently required. When the groceries module is loaded we want the groceries rsl to load and likewise when the bakery module is loaded we want the bakeryCore rsl to load.In reality this isn't what happens. If we set the projects up like that at run time the core rsl loads at application startup but the module RSLs do not load when the module is loaded. If we run an application from the project that houses the groceries module then he rsl loads when the application loads but not when the module does. We need a way of loading the rsl when the module loads.At the moment we specify groceriesCore and bakeryCore in the client application so they all load when the client loads. This is obviously not a good idea as when we add another 30 departments we don't want all these departments being downloaded at application startup - we only want them to be downloaded when they are required - when the application loads.
I have a flex project, which has a main application, and then a number of small modules (17 of them). For reasons I have not been able to figure out, when I do a 'debug-compile' to test, frequently (but not always), it decides to rebuild the modules, though, nothing within the modules has changed in any way. Without the modules re-compiling, it takes about 5 seconds to build the app, but with it, it's upwards of 2 minutes. I assume its that something the modules all need is getting changed, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out.
I have build a module in Flex that I call myModule, this module has a method myMethod. Now I use the ModuleManager to load this module.

now I want to access the method
(customComp as myModule).myMethod()
where customComp is the DisplayObject created by the factore.create() method of the module info. This code will not compile as myModule is not a defined property. Can someone help me with that? What do I have to import? The myModule.swf is not an asset, it lies in the bin directory of my project.
I'm building a Flex/Flash Builder 4 application that loads data using E4X/XML, like this:I originally build an application that was a single MXML file which loaded this XML file and built a form from the data.I've now build a main menu screen with a button to load the form screen as a seperate module. How do I get the XML declaration to work in this module without loading it again.
I'm working with modules and each of it will be compiled (deployed) in a common folder in a webproject. In the main class I defined an array of module paths which I need for loading all these defined modules.
How can I make that more dynamically, for instance, I want to say, load all modules in a certain folder an its subfolders without to know each module by name.
We are working on a project where we have multiple modules- all these share a common set of functions like rounding, string parsing etc.Currently, we have added these functions into the parent container (which calls these modules) and use them in the respective modules. Likewise, if we have to share variables between modules, we add them to the parent module- so it becomes shareable across.Is this the right approach- both from a performance and structure perspective?
As far as my understanding goes Modules kann be used to split an Application into different parts. A big advantage seems to be to be able to load Module after Application Start, to get a better Startup performance. I personally would like Modules to make me able to have an own Code Sandbox for the Module Code. So neither the Main App Code nor the Module Code should influence each other. But for examples CSS Styles from modules influence the Main Application an visa vers. My Question:
1. What can I use Modules for beside Runtimeloading ?
2. Are there options to run code in an own sandbox ? For Example via Loading swf assets ?
I'm developing a module based applications in Flex and I was thinking about moving all my Value Objects (VOs) into a library project
Current Structure: I have a project that consist of a shell application and 3 modules. The modules contain about 10 custom components in each that are dynamically loaded at run time. My problem is component A ( in module A) needs to pass data to component B (in module B). So when this happens I move the VO that component A was using to a common folder. I then pass the VO and have component B pick that up and do what ever it needs to do with it.
So what I was thinking was using an existing library project and adding all my VOs to it. This way I'll never have to move a VO from the module to a common folder so both module A and module B can access it. The basic idea is I want to be able to complete abstract any module from shell into its own widget or Air app with out depending on any other modules.
As some of these languages have very big font sizes (e.g. Chinese), I do not want to load all these fonts into the app. at once but was thinking to put them into different modules and then load only the specific module (depending on which language is chosen in the main app). For this I moved the style part from the main app:
I'm playing with Modules and they work as advertised: the module swf's ares built and deployed in the output directories automatically. My problem is that if I use descendants of mx:Module, the IDE does NOT do all this nice work for me. I've listed the module in the Flex Modules section of the project properties, but still nothing. I'm going to end up repeating a lot of code in each module (to fulfill an interface) if I cannot figure out how to make the IDE do its thing.
What's the best way to organize functionality modules in a flex project? I saw some people put all modules in one view stack ,and so the application interface is only load once, but when the application get larger, the whole compiled swf would be very big. If we put swfs in different pages, we pass request parameters through HTTP request, we lost the benefits from flex RPC services, slow loading, and we can't see any superior comparing to php,asp,jsp... what's the best practice to organize front end architecture?
