The above application simply navigates through the five sentences in the DATA array (every time the Next button is pressed). For whatever reason, RichEditableText component doesn't completely reset its view (by clearing the previous text) before setting new content. From what I can gather, this faulty rendering is somehow based on the combination of line count and relative width. I also discovered that if I set the width property of the RichEditableText component to an absolute value (say, 100) as opposed to relative (percentage, 100%) the text is rendered correctly. As far as I can see, this behavior is unintended and is, in fact, a bug.
I've programmed an entire game from scratch, without using class files, and there's no menu yet, and I'm not sure how to reset the game without using class files or resetting every single thing manually.
I'm making a Flash tower defense game with a friend; I'm doing all the code. I'd never used Flash or Actionscript before, so I started off directly programming the gameplay, to figure out if I'd be able to do it. I've done everything from scratch so I didn't know where to start or the "right way" of doing anything, so I figured out as I went along, which went much better than I expected.
So now I've got the gameplay almost completely programmed, the art assets are essentially finished and game looks great and runs (reasonably) well (and the occasional performance problems are due to graphics rather than code), etc. I didn't know how to use class files in AS3 when I started making the game, and when I read up on them and realized you can't import the class files into the project and must open and edit them separately, I was livid and decided not to use them; I was happy with how the coding was going anyway.
So now we've got a game where as soon as you run it, it goes straight to the field and the game starts; we haven't implemented a menu yet. We've reached the point of playtesting and it's becoming a huge nuisance having to quit the SWF and reopen or recompile it every time we want to restart the game, so it's time to program a "Reset" button. I thought this would be as simple as making the stage go to a different frame and back to the first frame, but that doesn't work, so now I'm utterly stuck. It looks like the easiest way to reset a game is to load the entire "game" as an object (or something to that effect, I forget exactly what I've read), then you can unload and reload the game object to reset it? It also looked like it would require class files which I'm hoping to avoid.
I don't think it's feasible to manually remove everything from the stage, reset all the variables, and delete all event listeners and references so everything is reset/garbage collected properly.
Thinking about it more, I'm also not sure how I'm going to get a menu to load before the game in its current state. Maybe I can move all of the gameplay to the second frame and make the menu on the first frame?So, is it possible to reset the game without involving class files?
I'm building a top view 2D map, that it's objects are stored on the server.The kind of objects are 10 and might be a photo, label, button, lists, mix of them or labels with tooltips.The component must request the "areas" that are missing on screen.An area is 1000x1000 px and is cached in flex.To move in the map, will be like in google maps (drag-and-drop).I should be able to have another list and move objects from one to another using drag-an-drop on objects. Ex.: I grab an objects from a list and I move it on this map, I release the mouse button and the item is placed there.Now the problem is: I build a custom component for this trying to emulate the item renderer for performance and recyclage, implement drag-and-drop on objects and request the areas that are missing?
or
I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too.What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.
UPDATE: *There will be not any object over another.
*I will not use hitTest on bitmaps because all bitmaps are wrapped in another component,as they,for now are itemrenderers.
Anyway I already begin to do this using a class that extends the SkinnableDataContainer and a custom layout. As the layout is not like a grid, is sparse, random items at diferent points(x, y).How to get the localX and localY, relative to item renderer and not to the Spark List, from a DragEvent in Flex 4?
I need to completely initialize a custom component in my Flex app (i.e. I should be able to access it from action script and get its properties and its children etc), But I do not want to add it to the display or make it visible. I have tried to add it to my visible component, but keep it visible, but often many of its properties are set only when it is drawn, so i don't get what i need. Is there a way to add a custom component to some sort of 'Virtual' display, that is not visible to the user?
I am pretty new to AS3. Basically I have a photo gallery that runs in a container, which is added to the stage like so: import com.xmlphotoalbum.*; var gallery:XmlPhotoAlbum = new XmlPhotoAlbum(); gallery_container.addChild(gallery);
I want to have it set up so when you click on a "gallery" button, it reloads/refreshes the gallery to its initial state, because the "internal" navigation of the gallery isn't very intuitive...and so the only thing I can think of is essentially to remove the gallery and re-add it, so that whenever "gallery" button is clicked, it resets the gallery to its initial thumbnail view. I've tried fumbling around with removeChild, addChild, if statements, and I'm pretty lost.
I've got some text that includes links that I display in a RichEditableText component. How do I change the color of the links from the default blue? I tried the example posted by Peter deHaan but it doesn't work with SDK 4.1. I found a way to do this in MXML, but the text needs to be localizable which means I load it at runtime based on the locale, so I can't just include it inline with the MXML.
To recap: How do I set the link colors for a RichEditableText component that displays HTML that gets loaded at runtime?
I've created a "Poster Maker" in Flex. The text part of the poster is written inside a TLF-based RichEditableText component. Users can choose the font for the text using a ComboBox which lists all the device fonts on the computer.
All works well, until Chinese users try to apply a Chinese font and it doesn't work. Here's a screencast of the problem (just over 1 min long). In it you can see I can write Chinese in WordPad and apply the two different Chinese fonts I have on the PC without any problems. When I switch to the Flex app and try the same it doesn't work.I'm at a loss as to why this won't work. The change event of the font picker ComboBox looks like this:
var txtLayFmt:TextLayoutFormat = editor.getFormatOfRange(null, editor.selectionAnchorPosition, editor.selectionActivePosition );
[code]....
Where selectedItem.font is the fontname of the font and is what you see as the label in the ComboBox.
I have a Flex component that is a view of a data Object that recursively has a reference to itself.
For example if you had an Employee class that references a boss field of type Person, I'd like to nest the same view for that Boss. This shouldn't be an infinite recursive relationship (e.g. I'd only be viewing the boss field of each object).
I've tried creating an MXML component that references itself but when I run it locks up (seems like it gets into a recursive loop).
Is there anything you can do like includeInLayout conditions that will make sure it doesn't even instantiate that component.
I have lots of child text inputs within a spark Scroller. How can I make the TextInput with id of "x" come into focus if I have a..z id's, also for the scrollbar to scroll automatically to that child item? I can use x.setFocus(), but the scrollbar doesn't automatically scroll to that item? why?
I'm currently building a Flex 4.5 mobile project including several views and custom written MXML components that can be incorporated dynamically into those views.How do I determine which component currently has focus, namely has been activated by the user tapping on it? The background for this is a global search function in the main application. Depending on the results of this search, fields in the custom components are set. Given that I don't want all components in a view to listen to the outcome of that search function, I have to check which one is currently active.I'm trying to bind the selected object (the result from the search function) to the active component.
Let's say I'm trying to place a tooltip on the left side of a component on my view. Layout may look similar to this:
[CODE]...
After the point is converted via contentToGlobal(), the point's x coordinate is drastically incorrect. I've found a way to workaround this by simply wrapping the target component in another HBox like this:
does anyone knows how i could just eliminate the folder icon of a tree control and display only the leaf? supposing i have an xml structure looking this :
In Flex Builder 3, I am trying to access the main applications view state from within a component.On initialize I show the Loginpage-component. When I click the login button I want to hide the loginpage and show my "controlpanel" page, which also is a component.I try with this, and also placing this function in the main application.[code]
Do you know how if you drag an <mx:Label> or <s:Label> component into your Flex project, when you go to design mode you get this panel on the right to set its properties like text etc.
I have a custom component that I can call with actionscript, or with mxml like this:
<comps:TheComp field1="OK" field2="Yes" />
The component takes this input and uses it for its internal operation
[Code]...
When I go to design mode, I can see the component under custom components, I can drag it to the stage and see it, but can't set its values field1 and field visually on the right like a normal <s:Label> or <mx:Label> would have. how I can add that? Do I need to make it inherit something or anything else
I've made a custom list itemRenderer with 2 buttons and a label. One button deletes the list entry (and thats not the problem) the second button would change the actual view.how I can change actual view within the itemrenderer ?
I've used JRab's example here [URL]... to add a header menu to my app. What I'm having trouble with is executing my functions from the header mennu. For example, my firstView is appHome.mxml. It instantiates a Canvas object that has an erase(). There is a button in appHope.mxml that executes the erase() on the Canvas instance. I'm trying move the Erase button out of my appHome.mxml and into my headerMenu.mxml but don't know how to execute the erase() on the Canvas instance. The first thing I thought to try was click="{appHome.myCanvas.erase()}" but obviously that didn't work.
I asked a similar question yesterday here: Flex executing a function on another view and I accepted the answer before I tried it. The problem is that the headermenu.mxml is not a child of appHome.mxml. They are both children of the main app.mxml. Secondly, the object that has the erase() is in a separate .as class I instantiate in appHome.mxml.
Does there exist a Flex view component that you could just pass it a custom object with all public fields/properties that it could reflect over and produce a basic UI view using flex components. Is it possible to use something like the Spark DataGrid with one item laid out vertically. It would only have to support:
I'm trying to select the id of a textArea when it's focused in
[Code]...
Problem is TextArea is made up of RichEditableText so target doesn't actually refer to TextArea. I've tried event.target.parent.id but still not getting there. Anyone knows how to get to the bottom of this?
I need selectable text that can be copied. Some users are used to copy with Ctrl+C (Cmd+C on Mac), and some are used to right click and select "Copy".
Using s:RichEditableText, there is no "Copy" in right click menu: http://d.pr/xWXW. Using mx:Text, there is "Copy" in right click menu, but it doesn't copy anything: http://d.pr/vtiw
Ctrl+C works for both s:RichEditableText and mx:Text.
Is there a property or something to enable "Copy" in right click menu for s:RichEditableText?
I am currently implementing squiggly in a flex application to enable spell checking. Due to certain requirements, I can not use SquigglyUI to hook onto my spark RichEditableText.I have successfully used com.adobe.linguistics.utils.TextTokenizer to tokenize and highlight mispelt words.I would like to be able to let the user rightclick on a mispelled word and show a I have tried to attach a listener to my RichEditableText:
richtexteditor.addEventListener("rightClick", showSuggestions); And this is my event handler: private function showSuggestions(event:MouseEvent):void{
After setting an control's location to some site. How could I then take a peek at the associated HTML? I notice that as soon as I set Location, htmlText becomes null and vice-versa... So how would one go about looking at the HTML displayed in the control in TEXT form?
I want to find a way to get the character index in a Spark based RichEditableText based on mouse x, y position.The mx.controls.TextArea has a protected getCharIndexAtPoint() method but I can't find an equivalent of this in the Spark RichEditableText which is disappointing.
I'm coding this, so if you have some suggestions, please post them in code, not MXML.
but UITextfield is not a TLF component and the example for RichText does not cause the RichText height to grow with the text. What I need is a component that I can set the width, add TLF formatted text and get the height of the component once it has rendered. Just like a TextField does when you add text.
I'm currently using RobotLegs with the Presentation Model pattern to develop a Flex 4 project. I understand that all business logic related to a View resides in the Presentation Model associated with that view, however, I am confused when it comes to View specific logic.For example, I have an indicator that needs to be positioned relatively to list items depending on which list item is selected. Is it acceptable in the Presentation pattern to put the logic that will position the indicator in the View and simply have that logic run in reaction to a selectedIndex property changing in the presentation model?The reason I am considering this is that since the Presentation Model does not have a reference to the view it is difficult to come up with an ideal solution for manipulating view components.
Is there a method to set the caret position within a RichEditableText control? The control's contents can contain errors that the user must fix which are navigated though via Next/Previous buttons, and during the navigation I would like to set the caret cursor to the end of each error within the text.
For example, say I have 3 RichEditableText objects and I want to be able to highlight them all together:
<s:RichEditableText id="obj_one" width="100%" text="Click and start dragging the highlight here..." selectable="true" editable="false" fontSize="9" /> <s:RichEditableText id="obj_two" width="100%" text="Continue dragging the highlight through this one" selectable="true" editable="false" fontSize="9" /> <s:RichEditableText id="obj_three" width="100%" text="and keep going and finish highlighting them all right here" selectable="true" editable="false" fontSize="9" />
Is it even possible to make it so all three could be highlighted that way someone could Copy all three at once then past all the text somewhere? I should clarify, The reason they would be like this is because there they are in an itemRenderer so they would each be their own object in each line on the list. It would be nice though if the text could be highlighted and copied like it was all together though. Just imagine the way an end user would expect to be able to drag an highlight any other text in a standard html document to paste elsewhere.
I'm new to flex, actually I'm reading a simple tutorial about Flex 4 (I'm using flash builder 4.5) this is the tutorial.I added a RichEditableText and then I should specify the property selectionColor, but when I add it to the source code, the IDE give me an error like this property do not exist.
I want to programmatically insert formatted text at the current cursor position in a Flex 4 (Spark) RichEditableText control. I could just modify the .text property But that doesn't allow me to insert formatted text. So I believe I need to interact with either .textFlow or .textFlow.interactionManager somehow? However, TLF is quite complex and I can't find a simple way to do what I want.
