The font file does include these characters and I have embedded them into the textfield?
My dynamic textfield doesen't show special characters (%&+...). I have emped the font(uppercase, lowercase, numerals, PUNCTUATION and basic latin) and I've also tried to render it as html.for example:flash.addVariable("newtext"," Word & word2");AC2myTextfield.text = _root.newtext;then it prints just "word", because flash doesen't understand character & as a text format;locally it worked finemyTextfield.text = "Word & word2;";
View 4 RepliesI just made an artwork that uses dynamic text and I'm unable to use quotation marks or apostrophes because it breaks up the string being used for the AS3 script I'm using. Anyone know how I might be able to overcome this? Here's the code I'm using and I'd like an apostrophe between We + ll and quotation marks around the whole thing:[code]
View 2 RepliesSWF file does not display special characters in dynamic text let alone cyrillic font. I do have all kind of fonts in Flash and they work fine in static text.
I can write the text I want to display in xml file however upon saving it I etheir loose the special characters or they still dont display correctly in SWF. Enconding is UTF-8. Tried changing it but to no effect.
I have just been upgraded from some previous version of flash to CS5. I have dynamic text fields that now do not show certain letters. For example "OK" shows up as "O" but "Ok" work. "SUPPLE" appears as "SPPLE". Some numbers fail to show up as well. When I trace the value of the text box all looks OK.

It's about as simple as it gets, I just want to make sure people are typing in an address instead of jibberish. i guess this doesn't remove linebreaks, and is very slow, seems to destroy my textformats.

this is faster but removes all textformats as well.

I have a textfield where a user inputs an answer to a question, then presses a button or presses the enter key to submit the answer. Code checks it, if it works good, if not, clear it out and try again.Problem is, when the answer is submitted using the Enter key and the answer is incorrect, when the TextField is cleared a carriage return is left behind. I can't figure out a way to handle this situation. Here is the codeTextField is declared:

I have a webpage which is served as UTF-8 and has the following meta tag:

I have an swf on the page which has some textfields on it each of which are just using arial for their font and no embedded fonts.
Now when someone types an @ into one of the textfields the " character is displayed instead, I thought this would be because my browser is set to ISO-8859-1 character encoding, but changing it UTF-8 and refreshing makes no difference.
I figured out how to get a TextField to maintain focus when the tab key is pressed (using an event listener on FocusEvent.KEY_FOCUS_CHANGE), but what I'd like to do is control the size of the tab character in the TextField so that it is equal to five spaces. (I would just insert five spaces when the tab key is pressed, however due to requirements this is not an option.) Is this possible?

I display the name of operator in a TextField after parsing the xml file my problem is to loop through this different TextField with a fade effect.
What I have is a dynamicly created row of movieClips. In which TextFields are added with text that's received from an Array. What I would like to be able to do is click on the movieClip that's visible and have the code understand I clicked array[3] for example and it will show the 4th array item in another textfield.

i'm loading an external xml file into my main movie and formatting it with embedded fonts. everything works great, dashes , parenthesis, commas, except for one thing. flash will not embed an apostrophe, instead of an apostrophe i get the following: &apos. so if i were to write inhabitant's in my xml document, when the flash file is published i get inhabitant's.
im using a standard font, gill sans MT, that i know has an apostrophe.
Have an Input textfield and write e.g. 123 in it (This is on frame 1).Then later in frame 3 I want that number to be shown in a Dynamic textfield.How do I do that?

So far, everything works well, but I am having problems getting curly apostrophes to display (�) instead I get a blank where the apostrophe is in my XML file. If I use a straight apostrophe (') it works but I can't get the curly apostrophe to work.What am I doing wrong? I looked up the unicode range for apostrophe and it's U-0027 which I appear to have in the ranges specified above...

-input1 is for quantity
-input2 is for page count
When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. So... I have create a movieclip and placed a dynamic textfield inside it. They all have instance names BUT how do I reference it in script?I need to tell the resulting calculation to be placed inside the textfield which is inside the movieclip. If it isn't inside a movie clip I can do it. But how to I reference it when inside one?

Is there a character or word limit for the dynamic text box in Flash CS5? I am using Classic Text and am copying a large amount of text (about 4,700 words or 31,740 characers with spaces) into the text field, but the text is cut off at a certain point (at about 2,600 words or 17,795 characters). I'm using a UIScrollbar on the text box.The full text can be copied into Flash CS3 but not CS5 so what is going on? Did Adobe create a word limit in the new version? is there some other way around this, other than splitting up the text into 2 text fields? I should note that I cannot use TLF text for compatibility issues in case that is a possible solution.

I'm creating a playlist for a music player, and I've got the song names displaying correctly in my songTitle holder MC, but there's limited space for the song names to be shown in, and I'm going to eventually have it inside a scrolling movieclip. Problem is, the text inside the textfields disappear when I try to add a mask to the movieclip they're being loaded into. I've tried adding all combos of embedFonts, antialias, and blendModes I ran into, to no avail.how to mask dynamically created textfields with a non-dynamic (Flash IDE-made) mask.

I'm working on an AS2 chat and I'd like to be able to place an emoticon at a specific location within a textbox. Is there a way of calculating a specific character's x & y position? I've even tried using textWidth and textHeight to calculate a specific location within the textbox, but the coordinates never really match. Keep in mind I have a multiline, wordwrap textbox with dynamic text in it. I've tried using monospace fonts and true type fonts, embedded and not, but the result is always very approximate, if not completely off.
View 6 RepliesI've been making a game in ActionScript 2.0 Flash CS3. Now I want to be able to display my characters alpha using dynamic text. The instance name for the character is char and the Var for the dynamic text is alpha. I want to be able to display the characters alpha and ALSO the characters current alpha in other levels for example.
Variable for lives in level 1:
_root.lives = 5;
Variable for lives in level 2:
_root.currentlives = lives;
I want to be able to do the exact thing but display the 'char' alpha instead.
