I have a page display people's name and when you click on a name information such as age, height, and weight are displayed. In Flash, can you create the same thing? I know with displaying data from a database you have to have dynamic text boxes set up to load the info but can you have it set up so you can load a name from a database and THEN click that name to have it load the other info?
View 1 RepliesI'm about to make a preloader of sorts, but have run into a problem because I have multiple SWFs being externally loaded in different locations. [URL]
As of now, it's setup like so:
Main.swf - has the scrollbar, loads body.swf into scrollbar container
Body.swf - has the layout, buttons, etc. Loads illus_finished.swf, illus_sketchbook.swf, etc.
illus_finished (and all other work files).swf - dynamically loads XML and images/info.
So basically, its one big swf that loads the content swf. The content swf loads the work swf's - which load the xml, images/info. I think I might load all the swfs from one file somehow, but I'm having trouble targeting into MC's of loaded swf's.
Should I set up a preloader swf, and somehow preload all the swfs into the browser cache? (I dont know how to do this, esp since I'm loading into a target, and not a level#) This way I wouldn't have to change how my movie is setup.
Should I take all the loading instances out of all my files and load them all from the first movie - and stick the preloader in THAT file? I can't figure THIS out, either, because I can't seem to target movieclips in loaded SWFs.

Also, I eliminated one variable. In another document, I was able to pull information from a text file from my web server without any problems.

View 3 RepliesCase1: When a client makes a remoteObject request ie to save some Info... A call is made to Java SAVE_INFO method. If request failed ie came back to FaultHandler ( we save the info in an arrayCollection).Later we call SAVE_INFO again for each item in arrayCollection ie( if arrayCollection has 10 items.. We call 10 times the same method.. I know that's kind of stupid but we have no control over java to write a overloading method). Some times we see there are multiple records of same info in DB. I am not sure if this happens when looping over arraycollection and making calls or during normal one time call. We could not find a pattern to reproduce. Java LOG level is at Error level in production. can't set to INFO in production to monitor all calls. We dont know if this multiple times saved record is, the one in arrayCollection or normal one.

I am building a dynamic menu with xml via php, mysql. Attaching clips from the library for each database row/xml node, etc. My question is how can I rebuild that menu if another database call is made and the list needs to be repopulated? I imagine I could create a clip on the fly and attach clips, but how could I get rid of the previous one? I'd like to re-use the xml object just write a function that either rebuilds the clip or creates a new instance of an empty clip and builds the menu with that one?

What I am trying to do is bring data in from (mysql)PHP into flash 8 (actionscript 2.0). I got part of this to work. I bring in the text and diplays just fine. So the next step was, To set the font size from anothere php loadvars (code below). Flash will not pick up that part of the code, were I set the font size.

the hosting account just fine pull up www.domain.com and goes to server.
I added the www.domain.com vhost. I pointed the application dir to /home/domain/public_html/applications/
I copied live over to applications dir. I setup user and pass for the virtual host login.
i want to intertwine php, MySql and flash. so i can make a flash movie display text that is in the sql database and a php script to change the database, php > sql = i can do but sql > flash = i can't do..i want it so the sql data show's in a text box in the flash movie...

This code works perfect for loading variables in a &var1=1&var2=2& etc...But how can I load variables from the page?like do I need to put in &array_name[incrementing_var]=value& and then when i go to access it it should be loader.data.array_name[0] but this doesn't work for me? I realize my URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES is for variables but can i still pass arrays with this? or do i need a new format? or do i need to pass the values as variables and convert them into an array in my AS?
I have a database on a server and I transfer the data from it to a web site. So I need to build a flash grid on this site and to load the data on it. But the problem is that I do not know how to do it. So my question is how to build a dynamic flash grid wich is fill with data from a database? Is there a way to do it with action script only or I must do it another way?
View 1 RepliesI've constructed a dynamic slideshow using ActionScript 2.0 and PHP/MySQL. The reason for this, aside from update purposes, is that the slideshow will eventually display over 200 images. Thus, to save loading time and bandwidth, I decided to use PHP to pull ten images from an SQL database, formatting the output in XML. The slideshow itself works fine. Unfortunately, there are a couple of issues I need to address; my ActionScript is extremely rusty, so much of my work's patchy.

The code in red is my main focus. It's the loop which loads all images as movie clips using the XML information from an array. The loop loads all of the images, making them transparent before the presentation begins. What I would like to do instead, to save loading time, is to load the next image while the current one is displaying. The function "moveSlide" controls the transition of the images, so I'd imaging it'd be best to plade it in there.
There's already an incremental variable being used, with _root.target_mc, for removing transparency from the current slide. The code in blue is also nagging me quite severely. I retrieve the next chain of slides by simply contacting the PHP script again. The only way I could think of doing that was to refresh the slideshow (this is done COMPLETELY in ActionScript, with nothing on the stage). Unfortunately, I could only work out how to reload the whole video.
I'm using a bulk image loader from FlashAndMath. The code has you send a list of images to load and it simultaneously attempts to load all at once, adding each load req to a list.
My problem is that when one doesn't load and throws an error, I don't know which load request failed. Are there built-in ways to get it to report what image it was trying to load, or at least which of the load requests threw the error? I tried doing an event.contentTarget.content.name and it reports an instance #, but not the name I tried assigning when I called the URLRequest.

I've also made my own scroll bar.I want the scrollBar dragger to be positioned in relation to the info._y as the user scrolls info.I have created two vars: one that worsk out where info._y is as a percentage and the other that works out where the scroll._y dragger should be as a percentage...

I'm trying to load the variables from a database into my flash file but I'm unsure what to use. I know for XML it's

but i'm not sure what the type is if it is coming from a database? I sent it the database via php and need to receive it back into flash. Even a reference so I can go look, I'm just not sure what class to begin with.
initially when i want to load data from database, it will output all the elements from a tablenow i create a timer to make sure it will query from the database every interval to keep track of the updated content, however, the problem comes in...when i delete a data from there, the data was somehow 'cached' into flash, meaning, it wasn't updated at all.weird thing is, if i port the data over to xml and update the file, the flash would show the updated data correctly

Specifically I have created a flash program for a teacher that runs tests for her students. When a student loads up the .swf they are prompted for their name. Ideally we would like to be able to save the progress of a student after he/she has completed a test and then use that data later. Is there a way to save data like this and call upon it at a later time?
