I'm looking to send variables from text fields in an HTML source and direct them to a SWF object on the same page. The variables would be sent once the user hits a send button.
View 2 RepliesI have a linked movieclip that contains two textfields.One of the textfields needs to have regular and bold text, so I thought I would use htmlText however it's only showing the regular font that I embedded?I made the textfield in Flash and called it "details".I also tried to make another textField in the symbol called, "invisi" and I set it not visible:invisi.visible = false;I embedded the BOLD version of the font in the invisi textfield, hoping this would make the "details" text field show the bold font...but no luck.

For Example:Name:_____Age:_____BOY/GIRL:____and then for example if the user decided to Enter: (Cooper, 7, Boy) the story would add those variables, so it might say:"Once upon a time, there as a 7 year old boy named Cooper, who lived in flying shoe."Ideally, I would want to be able to have the text auto format so that it looks like a seamless paragraph, no odd line breaks or spacing issues no matter how long the name they entered was, so for example if they entered "Cooper" or "Cooper William Johnson III", either way the text would still flow correctly

I have a form that will require the user to type in some figures (into the input text fields) which will need to be totaled up at the end.
Would it be recommended to execute this function by sending it to php and then back to flash or is there a better way to do it within flash?
Again all I want to do is get the sum of all input text variables (all having number values).
Is there a way to type HTML directly into a TextField in Flash CS4?� I've created a TextField on the stage, set it to dynamic, set "Render text as HTML" and thought that I could then type HTML directly into the TextField and that it would be rendered as such.� Instead it displays whatever HTML I type as regular text.
I assume then that the only way to get HTML into one of these fields is to dynamically load it into the TextField through the htmlText property.� Is this right?� And if so, what exactly is the purpose of having a "Render text as HTML" button in the first place?� Couldn't I just load the HTML into the TextField through the htmlText property anyways?
Well, at any rate, I was really hoping to use as much of the flash interface for the project I'm working on, such that anyone who didn't know AS3 could easily update it themselves.� Now it's looking like not only will they have to know AS3 and HTML, but also have to deal with the hassle of formatting what will potentially be a complex system of images, textfields, and videos all in AS3 with no visual interface.

Is it too much to ask to be able to just highlight some text and make it bold or italic?� That's really all I need, sadly.
We have invalid characters in text fields ie: <p> tags, when loading data from a local object (even though the text field is set to render as HTML) ?
Questions:
1) has anyone encountered this before?
2) know of a work around?
3) find/replace script we can run through the local object to replace the any <p> tags arising?
I am designing a roulette wheel type game. I am using a variable, "_global.myMoney = 0; " to keep track of the total money the player has. When I built the prototype, I used a dynamic text field on the stage with an instance name of "myMoney_text" and a variable of "_root.myMoney"

Now, I need to move this text box into a movie clip with an instance name of "winnings_mc"

When I test the movie, it looks like it showing the style sheet (font size, font, etc...) inside the dynamic text box. If I change the variable of the box to "_root.winnings_mc.myMoney" it seems to track initially, but now my updateMoney function in my main script does not work.
The function is called like this:

I'm making a four column layout with four dynamic text fields and text that loads from a html file. The structure of the site and which html file is to be loaded on which page is specified in xml, but the actual content on each page needs to be editable in separate html files (different people will do the editing, and I don't want them to go around messing with the structure).
The problem is that I need the four columns of text to be loaded from a single html file. I was thinking that I could make four paragraphs <p>paragraph1</p><p>paragraph2</p> etc., one for each column, but how do I load them each into a separate dynamic text field?

I'm 100% sure my php script is correct. Only 3 of my variables are being sent and the others are not. I think the problem is that I have duplicate variable names and can't find the duplicate in my timeline.
View 1 RepliesI have come across a bizarre Flash problem with dynamic text fields. I built a site in flash for a designer about a million years ago. The content in her portfolio's dynamic text fields loads from plain .txt files. The fields, which were set to parse simple html tags, used to do so perfectly. At least the last time I checked in April of 2006. The designer just contacted me last week: one of the fields is no longer parsing the html. ?! I opened the original .fla and it is definitely set to do so. Why would this suddenly stop working?[code]

Ok ... it is working, but it only for 1 text field. So .. how i can load a vars from one html file with other dynamic text fields.
Site loads two flash files at the same time with multiple dynamic text fields that load .html files with external css style sheets. The site works almost perfectly when viewed offline, but when you upload it the text boxes sometimes load and sometimes do not. I'm a graphic designer so I really don't know actionscript 3.0 (or any version) very well... so I'm attaching the footer .fla file which by itself suffers from the same problem, and the other files are too big to upload so here is the link to the other .fla file used on the homepage
View 3 RepliesI have a html/flash site now, [URL]. i access email from my site itself by giving the userid and pwd text box which i copied from the actual website hosting my email access. i copied the entire <form...></form> tag to my page and thus was able to put the name and pwd in my home page only and access the email in a separate window. now i have redesigned my webpage using only flash. i would like to know how i can implement the same using flash. as i have not much experience using action scripting i am a bit stuck about how you pass the hidden form variables. the below is the the exact form syntax:

when you go to the home.html page an animation will play from start and then stop at the end of it. However, for all other pages i.e contact.html aboutus.html we need the animation to skip to the end straight away and not to play the whole animation through. I was thinking this would be controlled by a variable or some kind of external text file ect. Basically in the first frame the actionscript needs to basically say
"if this html page is aboutus.html then go to the last frame and stop" and with the index page it would say "if this html page is index.html then keep playing"

I've tried setting up the TextFormat and createTextField as a function that's called on the onRelease handler. I've tried dropping the whole frackin' code in the onRelease function for each button. I am trying to paginate text in flash using actionscript.Basically there is a fla file with a layer for the actionscript, a layer for the text fields and a layer with next and previous buttons. (next_btn and prev_btn).The flash file looks like an open book, with a multiline dynamic text field on the left page and also on the right page.I want to be able to paginate the String in the "text" varible so that it fillls page 1 of the open book and displays the next chunk of text on page 2 of the open book.Then, when the next button is pressed I want the next bit of next to appear on the left page of the book (page 3) and the next piece of text after that on the right etc etc.At the moment I can only get this to work for a single text field. View 2 RepliesI have a movie clip with 5 frames.� When I'm on frame 3 (main game play) and I use the setChildIndex command on an on-screen element that exists on the frame itself, the element in question will now be permenantly added to the stage, and will persist across the remaining frames (end level and end game). This behavior was not present in the project until I converted it to CS5. If I remove the setChildIndex command, the on-screen elements stop sorting their depth (as your would expect) and they no longer bleed into the next frame which is for level ending.
I am also having trouble with a dynamic text field. It's currently set to not be selectable, but when you mouse over the field it shows the cursor symbol for your mouse pointer, and when you click over it, a small block highlight appears on the left or right side of the field. You can't change the field contents, or even select them, but when you try a small selection black mark appears on the end of the field.� I've destroyed and recreated this field, and the bahavior seems to be staying the same.
I am trying to figure out how to dynamically populate textfields in Flash. The text in the fields will either say ON or OFF based on the value of bstatus.var bstatus will either have a value of 0 or 1 I have the following textfields listed below.I'm not sure if the syntax is correct, but I was thinking that the text fields would be in an array, and I would create a for loop--that will go through the array in order to have the fields populated.

I need basically a way to convert a group of selected text in movieclips separately with Flash commands. For example, I know to select just text items in the stage is:

Say, i have a text field with some text in it, and i want to make it have a backgruond with alpha value (as in partially transparent, not sure how to make it sound good ^^). This text field reacts to mouse events, such as clicks and rolls out/over, and each event changes the background color.
I've done some digging and ran across flash.text.TextField.backgroundColor and flash.text.TextField.background properties of text fields. They're cool, but not enough to solve the problem. And obviously, if I change the text field's alpha value, the text will also become transparent.
I know I can create a movieclip below the text field and alter its properties to acheive my goal, but I'm wondering if there is a simpler way.
I think the title says it all. I'm building website and I've come half way now just to notice that my clients cant see my font that supposed to be there. What I've learned so far is that in static text fields, flash should embed it itself since I can't reference to it + embedFonts property not working.[code]...

I am developing an ROI calculator and need to acomplish two things, i think one will fix the other but here goes. 1. I need to make sure that when a user inputs their number in the input text field if they us a comma I dont get the NaN as a return. 2. How can I incorporate commas into the final calculation answer. For example if they enter 10000 my net result currently comes back as 105600. I would like it to come back as 105,600. I dont necessarly need to format as currency to make this work.
I am using CS5 and AS3 for the coding on this. I am not very expierenced in coding in Flash, as a matter of fact the fact that I have made it this far is amazing.

I have five individual movie clips that dynamically load names from five variables in a txt file (these all fade in and out and overlap the transition of the next). Every time the movie loops, I'd like the movie clips to display the next item in the list until every name has been listed - is this doable? Is there a better way to do this from within flash instead of loading the content dynamically?
View 1 RepliesI am trying to get some dyanmic text fields to work in my flash movie. I got one to work and have had trouble getting more than one. I think I kinda got it but it works but works funny. I am trying to load text in two different places. When I click on the first instance (Philosophy Section) nothing shows up. When I check the other instance (Eco_Conscience) the text shows up and then when I go back to the Philosophy Section it works. BUT it doesn't work on the first try. I am attaching code and link.
