I am making a site for a client. They want to be able to upload videos and also have the viewer be able to download the video. But...they want to be able to add the videos / files to download themselves. I was going to use an xml video player component, so I figure it will be fairly easy for the client to add or take away videos. But I'm not sure how to set it up so that the client can add a link that will automatically download a file?

Saw a tutorial here but that oneplays the mp3 file right away. I want the user to be able to save the fileto their hard disk and play it from there.

i understand that you have to have a .zip file usually to force a browser to download the file using the getURL command to the URL of the .zip file. But when i have a link in a pop-up page, it just gives me a error 404 page
so far the AS looks like this
on (press){
getURL(www.troyblank.com/download/beeswax.zip);
}

I have a mc with the instance name of 'resume'. When clicked, I want a resume to download to the user's desktop. I'm currently doing this:
resume.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, downloadFunction);
function downloadFunction(event: MouseEvent) {
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("profile_images/resume.pdf");
navigateToURL(request);
}
I haven't put this on the server yet, so I'm just testing it locally, thus the url request not having an actual url address. Is this correct? I use this same code, roughly, for the loading of external links... and images etc. When I test it, the pdf doesn't pop up.

I'm hoping to produce a CD of Captivate lessons to be accessed via a Flash menu. (Using Flash CS4, but with ActionScript 2). I can get the files to work from the disc, but as they are large files, they take less time to open if downloaded onto the user's machine first.
Is it possible to use some ActionScript to take the folder of files and copy them onto the desktop so that I can then point the menu items to the newly copied folder? I've seen that there is a download option in ActionScript but this seems to bring up a dialogue box and allows the user to place the files wherever they want. Ideally I'd like the process to be automatic.

I want to have site visitors be able to put a link to a website on their desktop. Asking them to click on a link, bookmark it, and then save the link to their desktop is too involved. A one click solution is what I'm hoping for, but something like dragging an icon off the .swf to the desktop would be okay.

I can't get my Flash video to *not* start downloading when I access my page.
The problem page is [url]..
There are six videos on this page. When I access it, all the videos start to download - the progress bar on all videos shows the downloading.

It's a rather annoying process of uploading the newest SWC every time you commit to GitHub. And if you forget to upload the SWC, people will be using old versions. Is there any way to automate that process?

I am trying to play an MP3 using Actionscript 2. I have the following requirements: I don't want to wait for the MP3 to load before playing it. I want to know when enough of the MP3 has downloaded that I can start playing it. I don't want the MP3 to start playing immediately: I need to control when the play starts. An example scenario is that I need to start playing a 30-second MP3 exactly 8 seconds from now (at the top of the minute, let's say). Depending on the connection, I may or may not be able to download the entire MP3 by then, but I can almost certainly download enough to start playing without interruption.

I am trying to setup a link for users to download a PDF from my site. Does anyone know if there is a way to force a download dialogue box, instead of having the PDF open in a new window. I've been using the GetURL to do this. I have looked everywhere, and only found this: [URL] But when I try to do it, there are errors, and its way above me to fix. I'm trying to do this because for some very weird reason, when it opens now in the new window, Acrobat just crashes (no clue why, but it does on all computers -- I've tested on 5).

I'm making a Flash website using Actionscript 3.0 and I'd like to feature a file for download, however the user will have to pay for said download. Ideally, I'd like just a "Download Now!" button on a certain page, then the user would be sent to PayPal and the downloading would commence.How do I set that, or something similar, up?

I have a movie that is going to be playing in our onLine Learning Site. I want to include a link to download a few documents, and I just don't know how to do that.I do Not KNOW what the complete HTTP url will be, just the directory path by that I mean, I know the files will be in "VideoFilesHighRes1.MOV" but I don't have access to the complete URL. This isnt a problem when it comes to loading other Flash objects (IE sounds, different clips etc) For some reason I didn't think the "getURL" request was valid in AS 3.0.....

We've all been to driver download pages where you select your model from one combobox list and then that choice populates the next combobox of choices and then that combobox choice spawns a link to the driver.Combobox 1 will display a list of 14 items. Each item in that list has a subset of 3-4 items that will appear in combobox 2 once a selection is made. Then when a selection is made in combobox 2 a link will appear for a download

I understand that PlUpload supports several runtimes (html5, html4, gears, flash, etc). But most browsers now a days support flash. And most other file uploaders (namely: uploadify, fancy upload, to name afew) would function via a combination of javascript and flash. And the same file uploaders only support ONE runtime, which is flash. Even if the flash player plugin is not installed. A developer can easily integrate flash detection tools and redirect users to a download link. Which is most common for several sites.
