IDE :: ThumbNailScroller Function - Adding A Thumbnail To An Image Gallery

Aug 2, 2008

I was reading your tutorial on adding a thumbnail to an image gallery. Im trying to use your thumbnail_final.fla inside another movie and is not working for me. I made a movie, in Scene 1 of this movie i have an empty movie clip(DisplayArea) and a menu button(Gallery) so that when i hit the Gallery button it load the thumbnail)final movie into the empty movie clip DisplayArea. Everything work except for the thumbNailScroller function. It load all the thumbnails and you can click them and they load the matching big picture and all but the scrolling function is not working.

I have found an excellent tutorial and source file for a 3D image gallery. However I would like to make the thumbnail click thorugh to a url link when pressed rather than loading the image into the gallery.

Currently the images load in through actionscript. Is there a way to amend this script so you can specify that a thumbnail clicked links through to a url, like you would with a normal button instance rather than loading the image. Here is a link to the file and tutorial. The actionscript is on the top layer within the file.[URL]...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Portfolio Gallery - Opening Image When Thumbnail Clicked

Jan 23, 2009

I'm working with XML and setting up a portfolio gallery. I basically want a thumbnail to be clicked and have an image opening, but i want the instance name of a button that is clicked to be stored in a variable that can be used when calling the images from the XML. I'm just trying to get the number that is in the instance name of btn2, and use that number 2 to reference the ID # in the xml file. I know there are easier ways to do this, but I didn't want to write new functions for all the numerous thumbnails on the site.

PHP Code:
btn1. addEventListener(MouseEvent.Click, _onBtnClick);
function _onBtnClick( e:MouseEvent ):void {
var clickedBtn = event.target.name;
}

Also the thumbnails are not being loaded through the XML, would it be easier to load the larger images without functions for each thumb, if I had the thumbs being referenced through the XML?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Adding Fancy Border To Scotty's Image Gallery?

Feb 16, 2007

I'm encountering a weird glitch when I try to use a more complex image border: the image container and the text caption both jump into place at the last moment. A bad effect. All I've done is add two more variables, "w2" and "w3" to the code:

Code:
var w = container._width+spacing, h = container._height+spacing;
var w2 = container._width+space2, h2 = container._height+space2;
var w3 = container._width+space3, h3 = container._height+space3;
border.resizeMe(w, h, id);
border2.resizeMe(w2, h2, id);
border3.resizeMe(w3, h3, id);

The only way I can find to keep the border shapes in correct proportion is to create 3 different border clips and apply the "resizeMe" easing function to each of them.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding "loading" Movieclip To Dynamic Image Gallery?

Dec 8, 2009

I've completed my XML-driven image gallery, however upon live testing I'd realized I made a rookie mistake and not put some kind of placeholder "loading" movie clip loop while the thumbnails and subsequent full-size images are being loaded. The images will randomly appear when loaded and I would like to be able to insert a placeholder movie clip while they load, and swap them up with the thumbnails/images after it has been loaded. The placeholder movie clip is in my library (loadingLoop), but I'm having problems getting it to work correctly.

Below is the original function that processes the XML and adds the thumbnail images; this is where I'm trying to insert the placeholder movie clip per XML child node (every attempt I've made just keeps throwing more errors, so I've omitted my attempts to avoid confusion), and I've attached the XML file for testing.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Sending Current Sprite To Loader Function For Image Gallery?

Nov 30, 2010

I have set up a functioning xml image gallery with simple left and right arrows. I am now trying to make it an infinite looping gallery swapping the first and last sprites in an array and + and - their x value so they "physically" move in the photos container.

All of this works fine except for the actual loaded image. The xml data, name description, and image to be loaded are set up in one function and all the data is added to the sPhotoSprite (sprite) in this function. This All works perfectly..

A second function is then called to add the current image:

var currentImage:Loader = Loader(evt.target.loader);
then currentSprite.addChild(currentImage); (the sprite is declared at the start)

The problem being that the sPhotosSprite is no longer reference-able. I've tried :

imageLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Eve nt.COMPLETE, function( evt:Event)
{ imageLoaded( evt, sPhotosSprite )
} );

But this only ever returns the final sprite. The same problem of only ever returning the final sprite occurs when I try setting an external sprite to hold the current sprite in it and then referencing it in the second function.
