I am importing a youtube video to a new movie clip using this script:

I need to be able to unload it if the user jumps to another part of the timeline. I have tried to just unload the movieclip, but it still seems that youtube is streaming data to the swf. If I do it locally, it crashes the application. If I put it on the server, it makes it clear that youtube is still loading even though the movie clip has been unloaded.

I am trying to import a jpeg image into an empty movie clip and then resize the image.I can scale it, and position it but I can't resize it. Somebody suggested creating a movieclip in Flash first and giving it an instance name. Then use loadMovie to place the jpeg into that movieclip. This did work and allowed me to resize it but only the movieclip would be resized which in turn resized the image proportionally.I still couldn't specify exact dimensions of the image - only the movieclip.

I have an Movie Clip in Flash that have subobject of button type which has subobject of input text and movie clips. Right after creation core Moveclip all subobject are set to null, when I expect them to be valid objects.

MC_Core_design was created in Flash and exported to Actionscript. I've done this for button_1 class aswell. The code was written using Flex. When I comment out both lines that result in error I get correct view of the core Movie clip with all subobject. How can I set subobject properties right after object creation?

I'm creating a small drag & drop activity, and I want to be able to check and see if the dragged movie clip is completely within the bounds of another movie clip (or at least in the bounds of a certain x/y zone on the main stage. I can't use dropTest because it returns true if any tiny bit of the movie clip overlaps with the dropTest movie clip.

I also thought of something that just checks the x/y coordinates of the dragged movie clip, but I'd need this to reflect a range of values rather than one coordinate. For instance, I'd want to return true if the movie clip's x is between 50-60 AND the y is between 50-60. I'm attaching a small graphic to illustrate in case my explanation isn't clear enough [URL]

ActionScript 3.0 :: MCs Classes - Can't Send An Event From The Eagle Movie Clip Or The T2D Movie Clip To Tell The Other To Fade Out

There is a bad gap in my knowledge with Event Dispatch and Event architecture, and this problem proves it. I've been getting nowhere on this problem for two days, I've posted everything to my Flash site. Go here, please: [URL] Click on "Flash Banners" The two thumbnails represent two different classes. Each class is identical. Both are "extends Movie Clip" classes. Tweeners of various types control the hover and click methods. URL Loaders load the thumnails which I then wrap in MC's and make them buttonMode = true, etc. Hover and click to load the Banners on the thumbnails.

I can't send an event from the Eagle movie clip or the T2D movie clip to tell the other to fade out. Both Banner classes are instantiated through a separate Base class. I'm sure this has to be an Event Dispatch from one MC to another and that it can't be done by the Base class. how I can send an Event or Event Dispatch and what the code structure is so one movie clip can in one class can tell the other movie clip in the other class to disappear while it's neighbour is playing. I'm happy to post code or explain / clarify anything that's not clear.

I've got a main timeline .swf file called "blank.swf" which contains nothing but two blank movie clips one called called "pproduct", the other called "ppalette". In the script frame of this main timeline I use the simple "Loader = new Loader();" method to load a URL of an .swf file into the "ppalette" movie clip. The "ppalette" movie clip contains several color chip buttons, each of which use the same Loader method above to load an external .swf into a clip. Here's what I want to do: let those color chip buttons, when the "blank.swf" file loads, be used to load an .swf movie into the "pproduct" clip on the main timeline. I'm wanting to be able to swap depths with various movie clips which will take out the movie which has the palette, but I want whatever that palette has loaded in the original "pproduct" clip to stay there.

I have created a new Actionscript 3 file, imported a video and have used the skin MinimaFlatCustom with volume seekbar. When I preivew (ctrl+enter) the file, it works fine. But when I publish the file and open the HTML document, the movies jumps 2 seconds ahead due to which THE VOLUME doesn't work, THERE IS NO SOUND IN THE MOVIE.

If I hit the playback button, the movie starts from zero seconds and volume works fine. Basically when I load the HTML window or refresh the HTML window, movie jumps to 2 seconds AND THERE IS NO SOUND.

I have a very simple problem but I can't find the very simple solution to it. I've create an animated menu with animated movie clips inside to work as buttons. All the main buttons work perfectely but I've got just on button with a sub-menu. On this sub-menu I've placed an invisible hitarea button in order to place some gotoAndStop action. The thing is, it seems to me like this submenu hitarea are underneath something else (even though is the seccond layers right about the actions layers). I've placed a simple trace action whenever the mouse rolls over this area but I get nothing... Am I doing something really wrong? I'm losing all my hair already.

I import Jpeg or any other images into flash , and I can click on it in the library and see the image, but when I bring it onto the movie scene, I just see the squares and the image is faded, it seems like it has brought the opacity of the image all the way down to zero , no matter what image type I save I get the same result, PNG, BitMap, GIF , is there anything I gotta do in preferences ?

They import fine and I have no problems except that when I test/export the movie the links in the original swf files no longer work.

I imported a video (mp4,avi, quicktime - just experimenting with video quality and size) using "Import video..." Everything looks fine after I publish it as a swf. However, I notice that there is a delay when viewing the swf, and not online, just locally. I'm seeing the stage for at least 1 second before it plays the movie. There is no delay in the movie before being imported to Flash.

Any idea why that is? Is there a solution to get rid of the delay?

Basically I need to pause a Captivate movie (CP3) that is playing within a flash movie (CS4, AS3).
 
I have made a full motion recording with Captivate which I have imported into a flash movie. The flash movie is organised as a series of movieclips that play from the main timeline. My CP demo forms part of one of these movieclips (there are flash objects playing "on top" of it in different layers). I have a play/pause button on the main timeline that works to pause all of my movieclips EXCEPT for my captivate demo. This continues playing, while the movie clip is forms part of pauses, throwing everything out of sync.
 
how I can pause CP portion? My actionscript skills are minimal and I'm not even sure what object(s) to target.

How to adjust the frame rate of an imported movie so that it would run in its intended fps rate, and not at the same rate as the presentation in which is importing it. (To be more specific, my main presentation runs at 1 fps, but the intro movie I want to add runs at 20 fps). Anyway, along my travels, someone pointed me towards the code at [URL]. I have since downloaded it and tried to get it to work. As it turns out, I know so little about flash and actionscript programming that I am unable to get it to work properly!

According to the comments in the code, it is executed by calling the fPlayControl() function, which has the following syntax:
_levelN.fPlayControl(_root.mcMovie,nFPS)
where (quoting now)
"'N' is the level number of where this swf is loaded and 'mcMovie' is a movie clip on the _root timeline of the movie that is calling this function and 'nFPS' is a number between 1 and 120."

I don't even know what levels are! Are they layers? Thus, the first layer is level 0? Then the next layer is level 1? Next, how do I give an imported movie a name so that I can call this function with the movie's name as parameter? I tried importing a movie into the library, and then giving it a name, but I still couldn't get the bloody thing to work.

My steps to attempt to get this to work: I opened the play_control.fla file, and chose "Import to library..." I then selected my little intro movie, and then I brought up the library, and renamed it. I also choose the "Export for ActionScript" option, which automatically highlighted one or two other options. Then I added this one line after all the other ActionScript code:
_level0.fPlayControl(_root.myintro,1);
Anyway, after doing that, nothing came up. Then I added another layer and inserted the intro movie from the library into it and played the movie again. This time the intro played, but it zoomed along (at I'm assuming 120 fps, which is what the speed is set to in the demonstration file I downloaded). Thus, it still wasn't working.

I really have two questions: How do I affect both a movie clip and its child movie clip in the same function? and how do I pull info from one component into a function for another? My basic setup is a movie clip of font choices, one on each frame: "bodyText_mc." Each of these frames has a child clip "bodyText_mc.bodyText" with alignment choices for the font. For instance, the user picks "Script" in the first ComboBox and then picks "Align Right" in the second. (All of this text is static because I need more design control that I can get with dynamic text.)

First of all, I have a combobox "cbBodyFont" that I use to go from frame to frame on movieclip "bodyText_mc." This works nicely:
