Just wanted to add this here in case you are migrating your project from Flash Builder 4 Beta to Flash Builder 4 release. I used a lot of mx:Buttons with the baseColor property, which now seems to be called chromeColor.

View 3 RepliesI'm making an interactive map of the U.S. The layer with the outlines of the U.S. states sits on top. It has to sit on top because otherwise the outlines don't show up above the color fills for each state. I want a popup balloon to appear when you roll over each U.S. state. However, when I turn a state, say, New York, into a button, the button layer sits below the outline layer. So when I create the popup box for the button's rollover state, the popup box is *under* the US state outlines. How can I make the button rollover state exist on the highest layer?

So I gave par.b1.enabled=false; It did not give any compile errors but during run time cannot access object or method of null reference sandbox error was returned for the statement par.b1.enabled=false. So how do I change the property of a button in one component from other.
I think I broke my Flash. I have a custom component that has a slider and textinput and their value/text properties are bound together. I'm surfacing a few properties of the slider in my component so that it can sort of be treated like a slider.

I have a simple flash socket that I use to connect to IRC servers. It has an open, close, and send method made available to JS through ExternalInterface, for opening connections, closing connections, and sending messages respectively. The socket calls IRC.io.receive in JS whenever it gets a message, which is parsed by JS into something useful.Unfortunately, whenever any of the flash methods are called from JS, they return a "__ is not a function" error.Here's the (watered down) AS, where IRC is the document class:

Any call to any of the functions registered with ExternalInterface throws a "function does not exist" exception.
I was working on a project in CS3 and since i'm getting closer to completion i started porting it to CS4 flashplayer 10. (bug is also present in CS5 when exporting for flash player 10.) Whenever i run the project this line is displayed: ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable $elementInstruction is not defined. along with the stack.

According to my encoder, it should be located at: "rtmp://localhost/live" and is called livestream.In the Flash software I try and set the source of FLVPlayback component to "rtmp://localhost/live/livestream", and I get this error: "NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound : Adobe Flash tried to play a live or recorded stream that does not exist. Source can't be found.". Both the server and encoder is runnind and I am encoding.Too, when I try and open the html with the stream in a browser, nothing appears.

I'm loading everything in on the first frame, but there are boxes that do not exist in the timeline until frame 5 or so. View 12 RepliesI've been trying to create a custom mxml component that extends another custom mxml component (i.e.MyMXMLComponent -> BaseMXMLComponent -> Group). I've been reading that trying to add visual children to MyMXMLComponent caused error with Flex 3 but that's no longer the case with Flex 4.
What I want to know is whether this is a supported/fixed/documented feature of Flex 4? or just some undefined behavior in Flex 4 that may get changed with future updates?
if this is supported and documented feature, does anyone have link pointing to adobe document stating it as such?
This is a project I'm working on for a simple demo tutorial application in Flex. I am using mxml pages. You can see to the left that I will have my main application and then other mxml files (In the Examples Package) as the examples that will be loaded into the main application mxml. How can I dynamically pull the value from the object in the list to load the child mxml file into the container that I have further down in the application?

I would like to include an MXML file in my MXML file in the same way you can include an external file in AS3 using the include directive. Using the include directive brings the code from the external file into the original file at compile time placing it in the same scope. For example,

Internally Flash obviously keeps a list of the primitives drawn using Graphics so I wondered if you have many such primitives in a Sprite, can you re-position/remove/alter individual items rather than clear and re-draw everything? Or is this deeper into the bowels of Flash than you're allowed (or recommended) to go?
