Professional :: Error Type Checking With "Check Syntax" Button

Mar 5, 2011

at some point in the past, i believe soon after i got Flash CS5 and installed it, i started receiving the following error when clicking the "Check Syntax" button:

Warning: 5004: The file '/Applications/Adobe Flash CS5/Common/Configuration/ActionScript 3.0/FP9/playerglobal.swc', which is required for typechecking ActionScript 3.0, could not be found. You may need to reinstall Flash.

what's particularly annoying is that playerglobal.swc file is present in that FP9 directory.  do i need to choose some arbitrary setting somewhere so Flash CS5 knows it's not 2008 and that i'm not deploying on Flash Player 9?

Professional :: Cannot Check Syntax Or Auto Format & Trace("x"); Outputs Nothing?

Oct 8, 2010

I cannot Check Syntax of AS3 (error sound, not the happy 'ding' syntax checked sound), nor does the IDE Auto Format anything, even valid code. trace("x"); does nothing (except throw the 'error in your syntax' message). There is nothing displayed in the Compiler Errors pane or in the Output pane. Document Classes fail to work and fail to fail, when they are purposely mis-coded. Class files also cannot Check Syntax or Auto Format or output anything with trace("x"). AS2 files behave normally, with all the above items working.

I had the trial version of CS5 running fine. It expired. I bought the Full Version Upgrade which worked fine. Yesterday, the as3 script environment fails to check syntax, fails to auto format and does not send any trace statements to the output window. I have removed the application & re-installed and updated, but nothing has fixed this yet. AS3 code envorinment is seriously messed up. I will update everything tonight.

this is for a loader on an already created flash. Which I am updating. All I am doing is changing a picture that has no coding with it, and changing the publish settings. The publish setting for the original was set for flash player 5, however I need it set to flash player 8. After I change these settings and export the movie to a .swf, I get the errors.Has the action script changed that much from flash 5 to flash 8?

So I'm doing this basic coding thing to make an object "shoot" bullets. It's from a tutorial video. My code matches his exactly unless I'm missing a tiny detail. Basically the code looks like this:

package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.Event;

[Code]....

And the compiler error I'm getting says this:Location:bullet.as line 31 1084: Syntax error: expecting rightbrace before end of program. Source: }Location:bullet.as line 31 1084: Syntax error: expecting rightbrace before end of program. Source: }And yes it does say it twice. The vid I'm learning from is this:[URL]

IDE :: Type 1009 Error Thrown On A Button Instance

Mar 11, 2009

I have a site I'm maintaining that consists of multiple pages that tween in their menus on a single monstrous AS2 timeline. I've broken the timeline into their own swfs that I want to now network with a swf loader and AS3 code. I've kept the timeline tween-ins, after stripping the AS2 code off all buttons. I put the AS3 code on the last frame of the timeline in an .as layer.So on the main page, on the last frame of the animation in an ActionScript layer, I put the following:

Code:
var defaultSwf:URLRequest=new URLRequest("defaultHeadShot.swf");
var swfLoader:Loader=new Loader();
swfLoader.load(defaultSWF);
addChild(swfLoader);

[code]....

I keep getting the Type 1009 error. I'm trying not to have to rebuild the graphics from the ground up, which it doesn't seem like I will have to do. I think it's probably got something to do with putting all the code at then end of these complex tweening timelines, and that a line of code that offers a scoping cue might be the answer, but I'm stumped.

I want to do something like this in Actionscript 3:

ActionScript 2.0 :: Type Checking Data In Array?

Jan 15, 2006

I'm trying to do something such as:

Code:
var n:Node = openList.shift();

I know that all of the data contained inside openList is a type of Node object, but Flash returns an error. I don't know how to typecast such as placing (in another language)...

Code:
(Node) openList.shift();
...to tell Flash that the data returned will be a Node object.

Better yet, is there a way to specify, while declaring the array, the type of the data that will be placed in it?

I could just take the :Node tag out from my variable declaration, but this might be in a tutorial, so I should at least act like I believe half the stuff about proper coding I write about

ActionScript 2.0 :: Get An Error , Syntax Error: Extra Characters Found After End Of Program?

Sep 10, 2008

1.) I have the following exact code for a button in a keyframe on the timeline (not in the button itself and of course excluding the quotes)

"
on (release) {
getURL ("www.yoursite.com", "_blank");
}
"
and I get the following error when I try and preview in Flash CS3 1087 : Syntax error: extra characters found after end of program.

2.) Also, I have another layer with a "stop" action taking place at the same time that this button occurrs, however, once I have the script in the keyframe for the button, it seems to override the stop action. So, basicly, IM looking to stop the movie and get this button to, once clicked, open a web address.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Customizing Template - Error 1084: Syntax Error: Expecting Identifier Before 21431

Dec 1, 2009

A friend of mine gave me this template that she want me to edit (change color etc) but when I try to export it, it gives me this error 1084: Syntax error: expecting identifier before 21431. (13 times - on every as file it loads from) 21431 = the name of the .fla file, also there's a folder called "21431_fla" where it loads a bunch of as files from. When I choose "Go to source" on one of the errors in the compiler it opens up a file (i.e. AboutPageContents_35.as) from the 21431_fla folder - and I guess the error comes from (and I did some searching on the web regarding this) it starting with the line;

ActionScript Code: package 21431_fla As I understand it reports the error because you can not load a package that starts with a number? I haven't change any code, so I'm curious how it could work before I edited the colors? And how do I fix it so it works I post a .zip file so you guys could check it out; [URL]
