Professional :: Real Time Posting And Receiving Data To And From Txt Files?

Apr 6, 2010

The component itself receives all its parameters from a .txt file. The editor is a read/save form that initially loads the parameters into it's form fields, and then overwrites the .txt file when the user hits submit. You then refresh the component on whatever website you have it to see the changes.Here's the php code that I found to get me going:

<?php  //Capture data from $_POST array  $title = $_POST['Title'];  $comments = $_POST['Comments'];  $image = $_POST['Image']  //Make one big string in a format Flash understand  $toSave = "Title=".$title."&Comments=".$comments."&Image=".$image;

PHP :: Flash Browser Game - Real Time Data Exchange

Feb 16, 2011

I am developing a non-real time browser RPG game (think Kingdom of Loathing) which would be played from within a Flash app. At first I just wanted to make the communication with server using simply URLLoader to tell PHP what I am doing, and using $_SESSION to store data needed in-between request. I wonder if it wouldn't be better to base it on a socket connection, an app residing on a server written in Java or Python.

The problem is I have never ever written such an app so I have no idea how much I'd have to "shift" my thoughts from simple responding do request (like PHP) to continuously working application. I won't hide I am also concerned about the memory and CPU usage of such Server app, when for example there would be hundreds of users connected. I've done some research. So, considering the fact I don't need real time data exchange, will it be wise to develop the server side part as socket server, not in plain ol' PHP?

Professional :: Pencil Tool Line Not Displaying In Real Time - Windows 7: 64 Bit?

Feb 10, 2010

When using the Pencil Tool in Flash CS4 the line does not appear until after I've released the left mouse button or Wacom Pen nib. In other words you can write on a blank page the letter A but it only becomes visible after releasing the mouse button. It's invisible inkThe same problem occurs on my other machine with the only difference being an Intuos compared with Intuos 4 tablet - however it has same problem with a USB mouse, so it doest appear to be a Wacom issue.I've found a (kindof) fix.Open the Wacom Tablet properties panel either from the Start Menu or Control Menu - leave it open while using the Pencil Tool in Flash CS4 and it all works fine!I would be interested to know if anyone else has the same issue - might only be relevent to Windows 7 - 64 bit (i've not tested 32 bit). All was fine in Windows XP.Windows 7 - 64 bit (2009)Flash CS4 10.0.2Wacom Driver pro612-5_int - the new driver 613 made the pen go into Quick Point mode randomly so I'm using the older 612.5 drivers.

Professional :: Method Of Storing/receiving Data?

Jul 29, 2011

I'm goofing around with developing a Flash game that would be accessible via a Facebook application but am still trying to figure out how I want to organize the game itself. The game essentially is an educational game with competitive components - completing tests faster results in more points with which you can customize your avatar and other items in the game. Also, passing certain "lessons" open up new lessons. So the major components I see are:- Player data storage (scores, progress, etc.)- Social connections - transference of rewards, comparing high scores, etc.- Lesson data (what questions to ask, possible answers, etc.)How is this best controlled? PHP and SQL? XML? Should I use datagrids as an intermediary? I'm having a lot of problems finding good information, both on the internet and at the bookstore about how to manage this.

Actionscript 3 :: Game Development - Embed External Data Files For Run-time Retrieval?

Jul 30, 2011

I'm writing a Flash game where the game levels are saved in small plain-text files, which I want to embed in the swf file. My current solution has a distinct code smell in its repetition, and I'm certain that there is a better way. My code is basically: In a LevelLoader class, embed all the levels

[Embed( source="levels/1.dat", mimeType="application/octet-stream" )]
protected var level1:Class;
[Embed( source="levels/2.dat", mimeType="application/octet-stream" )][code].......

There are a couple of problems with this approach: I have to add a line for embedding each level. Optimally, all files in a folder would be automatically embedded.A level can't be "prepared" from a string. I'd like to be able to pass LevelLoader a level number or level name as a string.I think that all strings are stored in memory rather than on disk.How could I program this "correctly"?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Masking In Real Time?

I'm currently using the Graphics library to draw bands of color across an image (bitmap).So, I draw a square of colored bands, and mask it with the bitmap image. Unfortunately, when I use a mask (or even set the blend mode to .LAYER, OR use a shader filter) the FPS drops to un-usable levels.Is there some way that I can draw the bitmap shape I want without killing the FPS? I was thinking that I could like, draw the bitmap on top of the sqaure of Graphics, and then make a certain color transparent.

PHP :: Flex - Output Of C File In Real Time?

Oct 31, 2009

I have a C executable (named myprogram). When I run it by ./myprogram I get some output statements on the standard output of my Linux shell. I used run.php to get access to whatever is being printed to the standard output:

#run.php
<?php
$output = shell_exec('./myprogram');
echo $output;
?>

Then I called an HTTPService having id="service" to access this run.php file and I also set the text attribute of a TextArea to {service.lastResult}. When I run my Flex app, the interface kind of halts for a moment and then the TextArea displays all the 20 lines at once. But if program is run from Linux shell they appear one by one. Is there a way by which I can display a line as soon as it gets printed to standard output? This will then make the TextArea show the output in real time.

Or is Flex unable to do this? Rather how can a PHP program achieve such effect i.e. showing, whatever is being printed on standard output, concurrently in the browser in real time? Myprogram outputs 20 lines each after some microseconds. I want only the first line of standard output to appear in TextArea of Flex or in the browser (but in real time) while the program may then continue running the program.

Synchronized, Real Time Viewing In Flash?

May 30, 2009

I'm looking to create something within Flash that I've not yet seen done.It will be a shared, real-time interactive session. What I want to know is, is it possible to create an individual, private session within Flash that is synchronized between two or more computers? I am doing this for the medical profession, but I can also see this would have benefits in the gaming community as well. I'm trying to create something that two specific users can interactively share in real time.

For example,a coloring book.Two players,or as many as you want, log in together and share a private coloring session. They will be able to interactively see anything that the other person is coloring in real time.The other people would also be able to color and let everyone else see their work.
