I am using CS5, AS3 and the scrollbar component as well as dynamic text from an XML file. I can format the text (color) in my XML that IS NOT being pulled into the scrollbar text. However, I have had no success formatting anything that is to scroll.
I have tried with and without CDDATA tags and nothing works. Is this allowed?
I set it up to have 4 scenes and in each scene I use, I have a scrollbar from the components menu attached to some dynamic text. Now, I had this problem before, but then I apparently fixed it when I deleted all the text and scrollbars and then remade them. Now, I'm on a different computer and suddenly this is a problem again. Whenever I test the .swf file I get this Output Error:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at NorthernStar_fla::MainTimeline/__setProp___id31__Music_Layer16_1() at NorthernStar_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()Now, "Music" is the scene and "layer 16" is where I have my scrollbar and dynamic text. I know it has something to do with either the scrollbar or text as the error disappears when they do.

I've thought of a way to cheat my way around this, but I'm still really frustrated by the fact that I was unable to get rid of those annoying line-breaks.
I'm having an issue with TextFormat tags that are appearing in textfields. Here's an overview of what I'm doing: Basically, I'm trying to grab the text from a textArea component: (myText = myTextArea.text")
Because I want to retain formatting, I have the textArea set to be html. Thus, myText becomes the text you see below
So the myText data is then stored in XML, but later when I try to access it, it fills that same textArea component with the literal code rather than the formatted text. How do I take that TextFormat string and convert it back to it's original form? I've
tried myTextArea.htmlText

View 6 Repliesi'm working on a game project and i got some trouble with displaying stuff in the game Launcher. everything is in AS3. I'm actually looking to achieve almost the same results as the World of Warcraft launcher with a news section. the way i think to work it is that i create either a textArea component or a textfield and display html page in it. This html page could contain text, image and flash SWF.
but here's the problem, textField and textArea component are very limited in displaying and formating HTML pages. So i don't know if i should continue to search and try developping this way or find another way for displaying dynamic stuff that can be easily updated.
Is there a code that will make the scroll pane operate with input from the mouse's scroll wheel?

View 1 RepliesOn my website Im trying to display examples of code. Ive been hitting a rather large wall when it comes to flash and how it deals with formatting text.
If I simply load as regular text I get a massive amount of extra white space and lose all my indenting. If I load as htmlText, I can get it to remove most of the white space but not all. I can also get some indenting using htmlText but it only applies to 'paragraphs' as a whole, which is obviously irrelevant with code, and requires me to go back to way too much white space.
Is there anyway I can get flash to load -exactly- what I see in notepad in regards to white space and indenting at the same time?

View 1 RepliesI've got two pages with text sitting in Dynamic text boxes. I've used the scrollbar component in Flash Professional (UIScrollBar). All appears great when previewed in Flash. The moment it's viewed in a browser, the scroll bars disappear! All appears to be disabled. I've checked the linkage of the Component and all appears fine. Here is the browser view: [URL]. I ve got a series of frames, each with its own instance of a scrollPane called actionText. When navigating from frame to frame I want the vertical scroll position of actionText to reset to 0.For some reason these separate instances of the component are inheriting scroll positions from one another,for example,if I scroll to 50% in one frame, jump to a new frame with a new instance of actionText, that new instance starts at 50%, not 0.
I should be able to set the scroll position by actionText.vPostion = 0 but I get Position is an undefined property of the object actionText .Roll over either the star one or star twotabs and select any action item, scroll the text down (actually a pdf converted to swf), then navigate to another action item and the new scrollPane does not default to 0. Only stars one and two are coded.[url]......
i've a tilelist component on my screen which has many entries (more than 10).it displays only 3 items. i've created two buttons for scrolling. right button and left button.if right button is clicked, tilelist component will scroll to next 3 items.likewise if left button is clicked, tilelist component will scroll to previous 3 items.i know it can be done with tileList.scrollToIndex() command.but the problem is, it directly switches to specified number while i want to scroll (tween)..

However now I need to be able to communicate from the attached mc BACK to the linked content of the scroll window. I've tried a few things and nothing's working yet.
EDIT: All I need to do I think is check if the mc in front of the scroll window is empty, but my mind is a blank right now.
I have an empty textbox with the basic scroll bar component. Nothing is in the text box so the arrows are greyed out on the scrollbar. I have a button that loads text into the textbox, but the component does not update itself to accomodate text that is larger than the text box.
how can I make it so that the scrollbar changes when text is added.....also If I put text in the text box in flash, when I publish it gets the scrollbar fine, but it will not adjust itself when I click on the button that loads different text into the text box. what happens is the scroll bar stays the same regardless on the size of the loaded text.
I am having trouble with the scroll bar component with a text field on a website. I made a text field and am dynamically loading html text into the field. On one page I have a single text field with a single html document loaded into it. On another page I have a single text field that has buttons to swap out the html documents to view different docs. When test the movie in Flash everything works fine. When the files are uploaded online the text scroll bars disappear on both pages for the single doc and the other page with multiple docs, and I can't scroll them.
