I don't want just anyone to connect to my server to stream live.  I want to restrict by IP address, authentication, or any other means.

Professional :: Media Encoder CS4 Doesn't Stretch Video

Nov 7, 2008

I have a 720x576px clip (anamorphic), which I want to encode into a flv with the right aspect ratio (720x405px). In the new flash media encoder, you have three settings.

- Scale to fit
- Black borders
- Change output size

But none of those settings allows me to stretch the video to the right aspect ratio, I always get the file with 720x405, but black borders left and right.

Media Server :: Setup Stream Encoder>>Flash Media Server>>Flash Player Client?

Jan 2, 2011

I am trying to create a flash player to stream an on online Internet radio station using FMS. I chose FMS after being told that I need RTMP server to extract the metadata. Our radio audio is being encoded using a DJ interface called SAM Broadcaster. But for some reason, it does not have an option to send over the stream directly to a Flash Media Server. Only options are either IceCAST or ShoutCAST. How should i setup the stream? Should it be Stream encoder>> IceCAST/SHOUTCast Server>>Flash Media Server>>Flash Player Client. Or should I setup Stream Encoder>>Flash Media Server>>Flash Player Client? Shouldn't Flash Media Server be an alternative to IceCast or Shoutcast?  If that is the case, how do I send over the stream from SAM Broadcaster directly to Flash Media Server without restreaming through another streaming server?

Media Server :: Stream Failover On Encoder Failure?

Jun 10, 2010

I am using FMLE 3.1, but I presume that any server side solution would support all encoders. A basic version of the problem would be where I have one server and two encoders (with the same video source over SDI). If one encoder fails I want to be able to deliver the feed from the second encoder, without having client side logic. Is this possible?

I would welcome a discussion on ways to provide improved resiliency in the live streaming environment. It is amazing that no out-of-box solution is available to provide such basic functionality.

Michael

BTW: I asked a similar question some months ago but got no answers. Apologies for bringing it up again, but this must be a fairly common problem, as anybody using FMS and FMLE will need some solution. I have tried the livestreamcast application, but had little success. It also appears to be for a much bigger scale than I have, requiring an all origin environment.

Media Server :: Multiple Bitrate Encoder Creates 3 Separate Events With Stream

Dec 19, 2011

I'm using the Niagara 4100 streaming appliance to encode a live multiple bitrate streams for an event. The problem is the Niagara encoder doesn't allow me to attach an event name to the stream url like - 'streamevent%i?adbe-live-event=liveevent', instead it only allows 'streamevent%i'. So in the end I get three seperate events with a stream for each event.

Like so:
Example:
/Events/streamevent1/MNMMNNMxxxxx.stream
/Events/streamevent2/MNMMNNMxxxxx.stream
/Events/streamevent3/MNMMNNMxxxxx.stream
AND
/Streams/streamevent1/files
/Streams/streamevent2/files
/Streams/streamevent3/files

Is it possible to make it work this way without using the 'adbe-live-event' parameter using the .f4m manifest file?

Professional :: After Encoding In Flash Video Encoder (with Adobe AIR) The Interlacing Does Not Appear?

Feb 1, 2010

I am having an interlacing issue when I load my .flv files up to my site. The strange thing is that when I watch them after encoding in Flash Video Encoder (with adobe AIR) the interlacing does not appear.  I can't understand why the interlacing issue would appear once the videos are loaded up to the site and yet they look perfectly crisp and clear when I watch the completed .flv's in AIR.  I didn't de-interlace the videos the first time I created the .flv's but that shouldn't matter since they play fine in AIR right?  Of course I can go back through and de-interlace them, but I want to make sure that this is the problem before I take the time to re-encode them all.

I have tried importing a QT ref that points to the AVID JFIF 2:1 media (Quicktime recognizes it as Avid Meridien Compressed 2:1) and a self-containd QT that is holding an AVID DV codec. In each case, import into the Media Encoder results in black for video. The Media Encoder that comes with CS3 works fine. Why does the Media Encoder for CS4 not?

I am using Flash CS 4, If I attempt to file>import>import video, the import video window/dialog box opens, if I browse and select a AVI.file.I receive a dialog box telling me it is in the wrong format and to use the Launch Adobe Media Encoder button to convert to proper format. This is where problem starts. An Adobe Media Encoder Debug Event dialog box opens, it states that "Adobe Media Encoder has encountered an error",ScrInit.cpp-42
the only option is to select a continue button, then an Adobe Media Encoder dialog box opens stating that "adobe media encoder has encountered a problem and must close. It wants to report the issue to Microsoft, but that doesn't help me start or repair my problem. I have created a 3 page PDF of screen images which shows the sequence of dialog boxes and messages, I have tried to locate error data files in application data files, I can find the folder but it does not contain any error txt files.

The CS4 media encoder was quite a downstep from the simple and solid one in CS3 in terms of usability and stability. In Vista I had to deal a lot with crahes here and crashes there depending on file formats or number of passes, it could rarely get things done. Now I upgraded to Win 7. But this time I can't even encode ANYTHING. It always crashes and gives me this error: Adobe, give me a version that WORKS for all that loads of money I paid you over the years!

Professional :: Bitrate Settings In Adobe Media Encoder?

Jul 8, 2009

I have a problem understanding the bitrate settings when trying to encode an FLV for Flash 8 or higher, using two passes. When you choose to use two passes, you are presented with a bunch of different options, including "Minimum Bitrate [%target]", "Maximum Bitrate [%target]", and "Bitrate Variability [%target]". These are not really explained properly in the online manuals I've seen out there. Let's say you want to have a Costant bitrate (CBR) of 900 kbps, and you want to have two encoding passes, what do you set the other sliders to?

The defaults are:
Minimum Bitrate [%target] 80
Maximum Bitrate [%target] 120
Bitrate Variability [%target] 80

Media Server :: Streaming Video Over Internet Using FMS 3.5

Jan 20, 2010

I,am using FMS 3.5 to stream video over internet. This video will be a part of a website www.mywebsite.com . I have the webserver in my company. This webserver has the local LAN IP : 192.168.10.19 which is binded with a public internet ip 212.77.xx.xx .This website is hosted using IIS 6.0 on OS windows 2003 server with SP2.I created a swf name sample.swf from sample.flv file and gave it the rtmp address as follows: url...is the instance on the server, and 192.168.10.19 is the LAN IP of server) ,and it worked fine and every one within the local company network could see the streaming video. Now i tried to replace this local address with the public address and the address became as follows: url...After giving this public IP in the rtmp address i,am getting a message "Failed to load Flv from the address url...and as as result the video is not streamed and it only shows the progress bar on the link url... without loading the video. I have also checked the ports 80,1935,1111 on the server and they are open. Is there any problem with my rtmp address with public IP or any other reason ??

Professional :: Adobe Media Encoder Wont Preserve Widescreen

Mar 4, 2009

I have a mp4 file that has a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. When viewed in VLC it looks natural and in proportion. I simply want to convert the .mp4 file to an .flv file for web distribution maintaining the existing dimensions. I am attempting to do this with Adobe Media Encoder. The problem is that Adobe Media Encoder insists on converting the file to a 4:3 aspect ratio with a resolution of 480x360 pixels.Viewing the output in VLC results in a squashed out of proportion image. The output preview in Adobe Media Encoder also looks squashed. When I select the option to specify the output dimensions and manually set the resolution back to 640x360, in then adds to solid black bars on the right and left-hand sides of the video which is undesirable - aswell as making the video squashed. I have messed around with every setting and have had no joy in producing the output I require.I have a command line version of ffmpeg which is able to convert the video successfully (keeping the correct aspect ratio) using the most basic command: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 output.flv . I don't want to resort to using ffmpeg at this point. I just spent $1200 AU to upgrade to CS4 Design Premium and want to use the nice GUI I just paid for :)

Professional :: Adobe Media Encoder CS5 - Crop And Resize At Same Time Possible?

Mar 11, 2011

Flash 8's video encoder, use to let you crop (cut x amount of pixels out) and then resize a video (and in that order it did it). CS5's Media Encoder is confusing, from what I can tell it cannot do both, you either can crop or resize but not both. ANd if you can do both, you definately cant crop before the resize. So which is it? Resizing made sense last, because you could put in new values for the resize nad figure out how much you need to crop out.

Professional :: Media Encoder Turns Audio Into White Noise

Aug 24, 2011

Checking through the video specs, it appears that the one difference is that the ones which worked fine are all Apple ProRes 422 HQ files, and the ones which failed are Apple 10bit Uncompressed. The strange thing is the audio is the same for both. Yet when the encode problem happens, the video for both is fine, its just the audio where the problem appears.
