How would you be able to stop people from downloading flash video from your site instead of viewing it in a flash player. I would like to prevent people from downloading the flash video by ripping the stream. I am not looking for 100% prevention but ways to make this difficult and annoying.

Is there any way I can prevent a swf from being downloaded? In IE I can use the temp folder to find the swf once I viewed it online. In FF I can download it using the page info window. In Safari through the activity window.
Does anyone know of a way to protect my swf's so people can only view them online, but not download them in any way?

I have a virtual directory (Storage Area Network) in 'C' drive as well as in "webroot" folder in Flash Streaming Server. What do I need to do to make RTMP videos work from SAN directory on Flash Streaming Server. It works fine for http. RTMP from vod -> application folder works fine. I have done a lot of research and found out that we can use virtual directories for streaming videos. I am unable to find steps on how to use it..

I am working on a site that is intended to stream two or more flv simultaneously. The slightly different header clip should renew on entry to each page. When I publish the fla file it plays as intended. When I upload the swf file to the web only one of the videos are playing back. It does not matter if I import the video to a timeline, or stream it progressively from the server. Both clips are uploaded.

I have to play a video stream, so the typical stream.play(videoURL) command BUT the videoURL must be something different, with a query/parameters like: [URL]
This call returns error of course, the NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound
So, the query string changes the way the resource is loaded? Is a bug of flash player?

I'm trying to decide whether, for my particular application, I would be better off delivering video via streaming or progressive download. Here's the situation: Background: this will be a learning drill for learning foreign language phrases. There will be a series of ten short video clips, each one a headshot of a native speaker, saying a single sentence. The background is static so the only thing changing will be facial expressions, so compression should be pretty effective. Each clip will be approximately 4-6 seconds total length. Resolution will be approximately 360 X 270.
The way this particular drill works makes me wonder if perhaps progressive downloading might make more sense than streaming. But like I said, I'm not a Flash developer, so I could easily be wrong. (Did I mention we're currently looking for a talented, reliable Flash developer?) So here's how it will work: Drill will load up showing written text of instructions, along with audio of the narrator reading the instructions aloud. Approximate length of the audio instructions will be 15 seconds. (I"m thinking progressive download could begin during the reading of the instructions.)
After the instructions have been read, the intructional text goes away and is replaced with (from top to bottom) the text for the first sentence, the video box with a static image of the first frame, a "Begin" button. When the user clicks the "Begin" button, the video begins to play, and the "Begin" button transforms into a "Repeat" button, which is inactive while the video plays. When the video ends, the "Repeat" button becomes active. Clicking the "Repeat Button" causes the same video clip to play a second time (again, the "Repeat" button is inactive while video plays.

I've created a player for a client in the past using their LimeLight server to stream videos and not had an issue before, however for a new client using different LimeLight server, the videos seem to be ending 3-4 secs too early.
My traces on 3 vastly different videos I tested:
metadata duration = 32 // 32 secs long, ends at 27
Stop [27.350 seconds] = 4.65
metadata duration = 17 // 17 secs long, ends at 12
Stop [12.852 seconds] = 4.148
metadata duration = 258 // 258 secs long, ends at 255
Stop [255.861 seconds]
In the video players I check for NetStream.Play.Stop then put a 'reset' type function in there. This function however triggers too early due to this strange bug. Has anyone have seen this before?
private function netStatusHandler(event:NetStatusEvent):void
{
trace("connected is: " + nc.connected );
[Code].....
The only work-around I see for this is saving the initial number I get from the metadata duration, and running a timer to constantly check for when the current ns.time matches metadata and then run my reset function.

I've developed a video player using NetConnection/NetStream that works fine, in as2 and also in as3. The peculiarity of my player is that read an xml file (editable by a cms) that sets if needed some "cuepoints". In the stream version it's not possible to inject ascuepoints in the video file, so i read the xml and with a listener i set a menu that sets the seek point of the video. Also the user when watch video sets an exit point by closing it. From the second time the user lands on the player, my code put the seek point in the last position seen.
I've seen youtube player and I know that youtube uses progressive download. It's awesome to know that because you can jump from one position to another like a streaming service. It seems an hybrid version with the capabilities of the streaming and the band saving of the progressive download. There's something that i can't imagine..

After I updated Adobe flash player I noticed that videos I streamed did not play correctly.A video will begin to play but part way through it will freeze. It will indicate that it is buffering but it never finishes buffering and never continues to play, even if I refresh it.This occurs for several sites such as youtube, megavideo, and wisevid. This occurs for every browser I have tried (Firefox, IE, and Opera.) I also realized today that now iTunes cannot not download video either. When I try it says that parts of the files seem to be corrupted. I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash several times but that has not helped. I am using Adobe 10.1 (under version test it says it is WIN 10,1,53,64) and I have Windows 7

So I basically have used the fileReference class to allow the user to download a determined file if he wants to.
I use the file.download(URL) function and it works well.
However, the file is downloaded and saved to the hard drive using only the flash player. The browser is not aware of the download, and thus, if I want to show the progress of the download I'd have to make some progress bar myself. I know how to do it, but it would become really tedious and take too much UI space.
Isn't there a damn way in Flash to "send" a determined file to the browser so that it prompts the user to download it? It's an image file, so navigateToURL doesn't cut it since it will just display the image, both if I use a new tab or the current one.

I generate a HTML page with VB.Net which stores several pinks to files. These links are formatted with JavaScript looking like the Windows-Explorer with folders and files. The problem: There are only download links for the files, not for Folders. A folder can contain Subfolders ,a List of Files or a combination of both. So if I want to download a folder, I have to click manually on every file-link. I have not the possibility to insert PHP or another Server-side language. my question now is: Is there a client side way to Download them by click on a Folder? I prefer Javascript but If it isn't possible Flash will be ok also.

As of Flash 10.1, they have added the ability to add bytes into the NetStream object via the appendBytes method URL...The main reason for this addition is that Adobe is finally supporting HTTP streaming of video. This is great, but it seems that you need to use the Adobe Media Streaming Server (URL...) to create the correct video chunks from your existing video to allow for smooth streaming.I have tried to do a hacked version of HTTP streaming in the past where I swap out the NetStream objects (URL...), but there is always a momentary pause between the chunks. With the new appendBytes, I tried to do a quick mock up with the two sections of video from the preceding site, but even then, the skip still remains.Does anyone know how the two consecutive .FLV files needs to be formated in order for the appendBytes method on the NetStream object to create a nice smooth video without a noticeable skip between the segments?
