Nov 6, 2010In the project I'm working on, there are towers the user can place. However, it you place a tower higher then another one, it appears infront of that one, which looks weird.I want to be able to arrange all the towers so that that does not happen.There is an sprite called towerHolder holding, which all the towers are children of, and an array called towerArray, which the towers get pushed to when they are created.I tried clearing towerHolder, then running the sortOn() function on the array, and then adding each tower back to the towerHolder, but the towers just seem to be randomly placing themselves irrelevent to their height.Here's my code for the relevant parts:

This value is to be hidden from the user but I will later use it with an additional software to capture the value. I assume this will be done by using a dynamic text field for when the movie clip is pressed.

May 17, 2009I meant to call it "Convert a value to a variable". Using CS3, AS2: If I have a variable that's a string value = the name of another variable, can I extract the value and then look for the extracted value's matching variable name to get it's value?
Ex:
color = "blue"
box = "color"
(Assuming I don't know the value of box) How would I get the value of "box" out so I could search for the value "color" as if it were a variable? I need to convert a value to a variable name is what i'm getting at... I think.

Oct 21, 2009point in the right direction if there's been a post previously on this, I did a search but didn't find anything. So my problem is that I'm creating objects dynamically and adding them to a movieclip container. I.e. click button -> generate new instance of Item class -> container.addChild(item).

What on earth am I missing?! I've googled and found working examples of that, but it just does not do the trick for me. I'm compiling the project as an Adobe AIR file, but as far as I'm concerned, it should not intervene with the x and y values of the movie clips. I also tried getting the values by methods in the Item class, but with no luck.
ActionScript 2.0 :: UI MovieClips, Values Stuck In Scope?
Mar 1, 2010I have an MC on stage containing user interface elements.Within that MC, I have another MC with an onRelease event that calls to a function.The function it's calling sets/toggles a variable.
The problem is this: It's setting the variable in a scope that's available for the function and the MC within the user interface container, but I also need to make it available to _level0 (to be written to a file via an existing CGI script we have). I've tried setting this from within the function, having a loop that copies all the values from that scope to _level0, but I haven't gotten it to work.
The existing software I'm creating this for is convoluted, and we're stuck with it, so the goal is really just getting those variables into _level0, and not something that might be cleaner or make more sense.

I have 2 unsorted arrays that need to be compared, array2 must contain all elements of array1 and array2 can any number of extra elements without affecting the result. I don't see any benefits from sorting the arrays and comparing the string values as array2 can have extra information causing noise.

PHP :: MySQLI Values Returning Bits And Ints As String
Feb 24, 2012I have a project made in flex, using php data services to access a sql server database, and I need to convert it to mysql, I have changed all my php services from sqlsrv to mysqli. Something like this:

It worked fine on sqlsrv but with mysqli it returns to flex the INT, BIT or DATE values as string the main Datatypes on mysql are INT,VARCHAR,BIT(1),DATETIME,DATE (same as sqlsrv)
and on the flex the return types are mainly as object[]

May 18, 2009Kirupa's tutprial "Using XML in Flash CS3/AS3" when filtering the node values, how can I match a text string say "Stephen" with "Stephen E. Ambrose"

Using the above code it only searches the node which author value is "Stephen E. Ambrose" but I want to search only "Stephen" and want to get this node returned.

1.Read in a text file. e.g containing text like this, teacher/student/1/sn/2/3/4/5/9/f/tn/02/
2.pass it to a string.
3.then beable to extract different parts of the string and place them in different arrays.
The bit I dont know how to do is the extracting specific parts of the string? Is it possible to search for / and to treat what comes after it as a specific peice of information until the next / is read? Or perhaps there is a more efficient approach?

However, when I run a test version of this code, I get a value of null in return. I'm pretty sure my regexp string is good, but I'm doing something wrong in ActionScript. My code is below:

So, I'm guessing as a first step I would search for double prime or double quotes preceded by a number value, then parse out and convert this number value. Jul 9, 2011I am creating a card game application in that dynamic movieclips created on stage and inside those movieclips different cards can drop, which have some values.
If one movieclip contains one card and another movieclip contained two cards and all the other movieclips 3rd,4th,5th.. etc contains some cards then, if i want to go back and want to drop another card at the top of the old one, than how i can do this, because when i go back and drop a new card inside movieclip than it replaces the old one. i don't want to create a new array for each movieclip.

Jul 16, 2010First, is this even possible? Inside a function, I want to change the min and max values that the slider component will use. Say for instance, the slider by default has the min set to 100 and the max to 200. Using the slider to scale a graphic, I want to increase the min/mal values.

eg, say I want to edit the text attributes of text label.
I am not sure what object or attribute will need to be updated until runtime.
Say I get passed the following variables:
var objId:String = "label1";
var objAtt:String = "text";
var objVal:String = "Hello World";
I need to take these and update the "text" property of label that has the ID "label1" to "Hello World".
I have tried different variations to accomplish this but am stuck One example is
