I've written a flex (mobile) application, that ended up bigger than I expected.
I'm pretty happy with all my classes and everything on my AS files. However, the view turned out really big, as I'm using MXML to layout my app.
I was thinking about creating external components I could call on my view to make it more readable, but am not sure what's the best way to do, or if doing so is the best way at all.[code]...
I'm about to have to write a web page/app that will serve the agenda for circa 100 people on a page. One line per person, one column per day with 3 clickable zones in each cell. In HTML, the page is way complex for the browser to load quick and there is no possibility to click on a border between 2 cells to for example split an event that spreads among several cells. So I search an not too overkilling technology to render this kind of view. I begun with a PHP generated HTML page but the number of elements in the page make the mouse move jerky.
Moving to JAVA would give me better performances regarding the reuse of the generator of the view but it will still be an HTML page. So, here is my question: do you think that going forward with JAVA and its graphical capability is the simple solution or is Flash a better option for this part of a Web App? I'm afraid of the code I'll have to write in JAVA to handle the GUI presentation as well as the events generated by the 1000's cells plus borders of the page. In Flash, the graphical part seems simpler even if the actions handling is still huge.
I want full screen view(through code,without pressing F11) of my flex application.

Flex application is refreshed when visibility of the row is changed to visible. This results in lose of data that is already entered in the flex application. Is there any way to stop this behavior?

View 1 RepliesI want to change the view states in my flex app when it resizes in the browser window.I have the swf embedded at 100% x 100%. So when the user resizes the window below a certain width, I want to switch to a different state. I tried adding an event listener like this, but it only fires the event when I resize the swf outside the browser, not inside. I used:
this.addEventListener(ResizeEvent.RESIZE, SizeChanged);
I want this to work within the browser. I even tried using fixed dimensions in the embed code, instead of percentages, but that didn't help either.
We have an AIR client which talks to a WAMP server. We store documents.One of the customer requirement is: they want to their website users to view the documents stored in the AIR application. It should be a read only access. The users will not have our air client installed on their machines. All they do is to check the customer's website.

I want the user to be able to print or save the image. I can use the following code to print the image but flex does not provide good control over printing across multiple pages

I would like to display the image in a browser window so that the user could print it using the built in browser functionality or right click on the image and save it. Can this be done without requesting server side code to do it?
I'm currently using RobotLegs with the Presentation Model pattern to develop a Flex 4 project. I understand that all business logic related to a View resides in the Presentation Model associated with that view, however, I am confused when it comes to View specific logic.For example, I have an indicator that needs to be positioned relatively to list items depending on which list item is selected. Is it acceptable in the Presentation pattern to put the logic that will position the indicator in the View and simply have that logic run in reaction to a selectedIndex property changing in the presentation model?The reason I am considering this is that since the Presentation Model does not have a reference to the view it is difficult to come up with an ideal solution for manipulating view components.
View 1 RepliesI have one .mxml file (the Application) with a ViewStack (with 4 views) and a ControlBard, obviously I can change the views with it, but what I want to do is: in view #1 I have an image which I want to convert to a "hyperlink", so when I click it I go to View #2, is this doable? Also I would like to pass somehow some data (like a String) to that View #2 (lets say the it's a user avatar I click so I want to go to the second view which will show me his profile, that's why I need his name/id).

How do I visualize a break-even analysis with Flex's AreaChart?
View 1 RepliesI have a Flash 10 program that locks up when running on a device, such as a netbook, that has a weak processor.Specifically, it goes into a state where it is doing very heavy processing within an ENTER_FRAME event handler following a mouse down event, and expects to stop doing this processing following a mouse up event. The problem is that, since there is no idle time left over following the frame event handlers, the mouse up event is never received, and consequently the process locks up in what amounts to an infinite loop. Yes I can do things like lower the frame rate and do what I can to reduce the processing taking place in each frame, but is there some iron clad way to break out of this? Is there some way to detect that no idle time exists? Or is there a way to force receipt of the interactive mouse events? Or could I, within the ENTER_FRAME code, detect the state of the mouse, up or down, without getting a mouse event?
View 2 RepliesI am having some weird trouble with getting my Flex Builder 4.5 environment set up and working. I am currently debugging with the stand alone version of the debugger, though I have the same problem using the versions for Firefox and/or Chrome. It works fine as long as I do not include any break points, if I do include break points (anywhere in the code) the debugger just goes unresponsive until I terminate the process from FB.

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to develop a simple mxml Flex application to start Skype from the AIR/Flashplayer runtime. Is it possible to get back events from a native Windows application? In the simple example of Skype, the OS returns control to the Flex app when Skype exits. But what about native applications which have their own event model and wants to communicate with the Flex event model. For example, a Face detection system which shows "Hello" on a Flex app when the camera detects a face. Can this be done in the current Flex framework?

how can i delete storage directory instances or folder while uninstalling any air application. In my application when i first time run my application, application copy some data from application directory to application storage directory. now i want to delete all data and application directory folder also while uninstalling application.
I am doing that because when i launch any update then application is accessing old data which conflict with my application new features.

If I use the the tag, I can do it; however the xml compiles into my swf. How can I retain the xml file in my release build?

View 1 RepliesI have a native (Obj-C, standard Xcode project) application and I'd like to integrate a partners iOS application (or specifically, it's functionality) into it as just another view in my application. The problem is that their application is a Flex/Air app. I really don't understand the Adobe compilation process on how it gets from a bunch of flex code down to an IPA. I don't see intermediate projects, shared objects, etc on the disk to produce that IPA. It looks like it doesn't rely on the Apple tool chain... as I understand it, you can produce the IPA on Windows as well. Is there any way to build that Flex app in such a way that I can import it into Xcode so I can link against it and use it as a library from within my application? While I specifically used iOS as an example since that is the most important platform, we'll want to apply this solution to our respective Android and Blackberry 6 apps as well.
View 1 RepliesThere is a Flex app with 7 main views. And there is a memory issue when navigating between views.All these views were in a ViewStack, but due to some involving 3D objects I assumed it was too much to have it all in the display list. I'm now clearing all children from the stack and adding/removing them when needed. This gave a small performance increase, but still becomes unresponsive with use. The strange thing is, with this and the original method, the CPU climbs with use but eventually levels out somewhere. Now I'm creating new instances of each screen when they are navigated to and setting the previous variable to null. Now it looks like CPU is spiking when the view is created, but leveling out to something much much lower than it was. This felt like progress, but now the available memory keeps climbing where it wasn't before....
My understanding was calling remove child or remove all children would mark the object for deletion when the garbage collector next ran. I can't see any other references to the instance. My code is along the lines of [code]I have a function for each button to add a new instance like the above.The only thing I can see and feel silly asking but need confirmation, is each view extends a class called "Screen", this class contains a singleton reference to some core components.[code]Would this trick the garbage collector into thinking it was still needed? General advice on clearing Objects from the memory pool would awesome!!! I've never needed to analyze the Flash Player in such depth.I think it's an error with sound drivers, removing all sound and shes purring like a kitten. Works on my machine fine with windows XP, but not on the touch pad the application is crashing on with windows 7 (unsure of the drivers looking into them now) Now I'm thinking its not the drivers, tried 3 different versions, all with no improvement. I did discover the sound was fading in and out with the TweenLite lib. Doesn't look like there are any memory leaks in TweenLite as it works fine on other machines. Just the use of volumeEasingFunction seems to consume increasing amounts of CPU until it freaks out. It is crappy hardware running windows 7, which doesn't help.
I have an AIR application with a system tray icon. When clicked it shows and activates the app. This is working as expected when the app is hidden (docked), however if I select another application so my app is in the background clicking on the system tray icon does nothing.
Oddly I also have a contextual menu on the system tray icon, which has an option to restore, this calls the same event handler as ScreenMouseEvent.CLICK, yet works.
I expect it's something to do with the contextual menu changing the focus, perhaps it's a bug in how AIR works with the system tray, perhaps it's just something I'm missing. Would be good to know if that's the case.
